DH, myself and our DD who will be 15 at the time are going to Vegas for 3 nights in June before heading to Bryce, Zion and Park City, UT. I signed up on some of the Vegas casino hotel websites to get email notifications of any specials they are having and I have been getting a lot of those emails :thumbsup2 DH wants to stay on the strip. Right now we are booked at the MGM Grand in a Grand Tower room for a very good rate! DD, who loves Manhattan, would like to stay at the New York New York, today I got an email offer from them that would get us in there for about $10.00 more than what we are paying at MGM so still a very good price. Not sure if it is worth it to stay in a smaller room at New York New York (350 sq. ft., the room at MGM is 446 sq ft) just because that is where DD would like to stay. MGM is a 4 diamond hotel in AAA book while New York is a 3 diamond. Can anyone recommend one of these over the other?

That's a great question...the same one I have myself only add in Mirage.

I want to stay at NYNY because of the Irish Pub, the Dueling Pianos and Zumanity. But MGM Grande seems to be a more upscale hotel and the Mirage even better and closer to the center of the strip. Price wise right now I think MGM Grande is the cheapest for my dates, NYNY is slightly more then the Mirage is highest.

I prefer MGM only because their rooms are slightly larger then the standard Hotel rooms. On top of that...they have a really nice Pool complex with a long Lazy River and several pools.

NYNY does have the roller coaster and a much better list of walk-up counter service restaurants.....which maybe better for your DD...all of which can be visited without staying at the hotel. Also, if you care about nice restaurants...MGM has a much better array of fancy...but very expensive...4+ star restaurants.

For me, my DS, DW and DD....MGM is fancier with much better luxurious facilities.

MGM Grand 10000000%.
I live in So Cal and we go to Vegas almost once every other month. MGM is more upscale and has way better rooms. All the MGM Grand rooms were recently updated so they have better sheets and such.

Plus, NYNY is accross the street so you can visit.

PM if you any other questions.

Out of the two, given that MGM & NYNY are directly over the road (there is an overpass) from each other, I would stay at MGM and visit NYNY.
It's been a few years since we stayed at MGM with our teenage boys, but we all enjoyed our stay very much. They had a great pool area with lots of different pools.
Last time we stayed at Las Vegas we stayed at The Aladdin (Planet Hollywood now) and we enjoyed the location better and the great view we had of the Bellagio fountains but I think the pool area was better at the MGM.

For the OP going with a 15 yr old MGM over New York New York. Bigger room much better pool area. For the other poster Mirage. Mirage is just a better location. I know OP said she was signed up for the Emails from the hotels but also check out the codes on SmarterVegas.com or Fatwallet travel section. They are usually a better code than the hotel sends out on its own. You still book direct with the hotel. Just make sure not to book anything that can't be canceled. I've been going to Vegas for 15 yrs and I've never seen such good deals on the hotels.

Thanks everyone for the replies!!! We will stick with the MGM Grand :cool1:

RyJMom, I'll check out those other sites too to see if we can get an even better price, I still can't believe we're paying just over $200.00 for 3 nights in a 4 diamond hotel :goodvibes My brother thinks the rates for June will come down even more before we go so I keep watching and I will only make a reservation thta can be cancelled in case a better rate does come out. (I am still secretly hoping that we can get a great rate at Mandalay Bay because that is where I'd really like to stay ;) )

I stayed at MGM Grand a couple years ago and it was amazing.

The only other hotel I have stayed at was the Venetian and now that was fantastic (and mostly cause they gave us a huge suite with no extra charge).

Anyway, I am sure you will love the MGM Grand. Have a great time! Vegas is full of life and there are endless things to do!

I love Vegas. I go 2-3 times a year. I would pick MGM if the price is right. I have heard that the NYNY rooms are small and in some rooms, you can hear the roller coaster outside of your window. Also MGM has the movie theatre on the same side of the street not too far down.

Never stayed in either, been to Vegas many times- just wanted to add this: Seriously how much are you going to be in the room!! There is so much to see & do, I doubt you will care about the square footage once your there. Only drawback I saw with MGM is the place is absolutely HUGE and very confusing getting around. Both are really nice, either I'm sure will be fine. Have a blast!!

You're going to be seeing many more deals between now and your trip. It's HOT in June. There should be some great deals this year. Keep your options open by only booking fully refundable trips. While it could always change, historically the best deals come out roughly 6 weeks ahead of time.

But if it boils down to the two, if you plan to spend any time at the pool, take MGM. Great pool at MGM vs crappy pool at NYNY. Remember, it easy to visit NYNY; you don't have to sleep there.

We stayed at the MGM last may and it was great. The pool area is huge and the monorail access is very handy. NYNY has a better food court but it is easy to get to. NYNY doesn't have that good a reputation in terms of rooms if you have a look at a few other websites like tripadvisor.

MGM definitely. Its a nicer hotel and more to do (shops, restaurants, water park, animal show). My all time fav is mandalay and they have some great specials going on now too.
