How is the snorkeling in Kohola Lagoon? We've been to Hawaii a few times (never Aulani) and very much enjoyed our snorkeling right beside the resort.

How is the snorkeling in Kohola Lagoon? We've been to Hawaii a few times (never Aulani) and very much enjoyed our snorkeling right beside the resort.

Not good.

The lagoon starts out the day with real clear water but all you would see is the sandy bottom and an occasional fish. Once everyone starts using the lagoon, visibility drops dramatically to just a few inches as the fine sandy bottom is stirred up by people walking around in the water.

Many report much better snorkeling at Kahe Point Beach Park in front of the power plant just up the road.

I had a feeling that was the case. Somewhat disappointing compared to other resort experiences.

I have tried a few times in the Aulani lagoon and the one in front of the Marriott. Both were very cloudy with minimal fish.
HOWEVER, if you walk over to the beach just north of the Four Seasons where the Paradise Cove Luau takes place it isn't too bad there. The water is clear and there are sometimes turtles. There is a great little tidepool on the southside and the beach is small but sandy. The views just up to the north side are pretty amazing too. Well worth the 5 minute walk. This beach is sometimes called Secret Beach but the real name is Lanikuhonua Beach.

People try to walk around the ocean side of the Four Seasons but imho is is super easy to walk the street side on the sidewalk. Basically you walk past the Four Seasons road and the Paradise Cove Luau and public beach enterance is just on the left.
