Just Back from 7/19 Western, Some Comments

Rae,...yes he outgrew it around by 12-14...he's now 17. I use to assume he would never be able to do certain sports like Track, but by the time he was old enough, he no longer needed the inhaler for asthma. He use to wheeze and cough from over exertion. He had asthma from infancy and it was at its worse as a toddler. Always got colds worse than most and he would sometimes cough so much that he would vomit. Wasn't sick just his gag reflex and the coughing. How old is your child that has it now?

Now if he could only outgrow his moderate stuttering problem. He has had this since toddler age and still has it now. My DH and his father both stuttered but outgrew it so I'm hoping he does too. My oldest seems to have gotten all the minor ailments!!

Michael is 8 and I hope that he will outgrow this also. I know that the scariest part is the coughing til he gags and vomits part. How uncontrollable!!!

Glad to know he is definitely okay - I understood that George Mitchell (former Democratic Senator from Maine) stuttered as a child and his father would make him read outloud in order for him to practice. Not sure if that works or not, but my oldest speaks very softly and my youngest talks LOUD! Go figure! Either way I think I am going deaf!

rae, you are too funny!! I have another teen boy who mumbles so we can't understand him half the time either. Drives my husband nuts!!

The pediatrician told me once that if they have allergies/asthma as baby/child, they have 70% chance of outgrowing it as an adult. However, if you get asthma as an adult, you will probably always have it. Good Luck!

Thanks for the stuttering tip. We have been in and out of therapy, techniques, etc. Nothing really works for very long and my son also has to want to work at it...he just wants a quick fix but it's hard to stutter as a teen.

There was a TV program about a discovery using a special type of hearing aid that also helped stutterers. I'll try to find it for you.

We have an adult friend who stutters and tries to avoid ALL conversation - maybe this hearing aid device could help him also???

Let me check it out....

Hi, I was on the 7/19 cruise, I'm a 14 yr old girl, my name is Caitlin. I think I may've met your son Brandon and talked to him once or twice. If it's who I'm thinking of did he wear a hat a lot of the time and have an older brother who looked exactly like him?

Hi Caitlin...yes Brandon wore a hat a lot and his older brother is Jeremy. Did you hang out w/ them? He took pics of some kids but not sure of names.

We also just retunred from FLA, stayed extra week at Disney and were on the 7/19 Western Cruise.
Some of my observations:
Weather was fantastic, cruise was a lot of fun especially for the kids. Disney time at the ports of call is better than most cruises, I never felt rushed.
I have cruised Celebrity several times in past, and will probobaly return to them or RCCL.
Disney food COULD NOT compare to Celebrity, not even close.
The hot dog/hamburger stand by kids pool was fine.
I found the public areas on Disney (restrooms/pool area) nowhere
as clean as on Celebrity Cruise lines. I was actually shocked at how dirty some areas were.
Myself and other guests we travelled with had trouble with sliding glass door to verandah- and maintenace tried to work on doors- no luck.
Smoking should be banned on Cruise- if they don't have a casino for family reasons- do away with cigarettes too- the person a few rooms down from us smoked and we had their ashes on our deck daily- real classy.
Our waitress (Becky) and assistant were very nice, but again they were not serving gourmet meals.
I just wish they would stop insisting that you feel the meal was- in their words- "Excellent"- keep trying, the food was OK.
Lifeguards at Goofy Pool were saints and great with the kids.
Meal at Palo's was very good.
Cataway Cay is a gorgeous island.

I talked to Brandon a few times, but we never really hung out...he seemed really nice and cool though! Most of the time I hung out with Disneycruiselvr's son, another boy my age named Ken, and Debkay's daughter also...we ran into Brandon a few times.

:D ;) :p

I posted on disneycruiseluvr's post also.

Food, I agree, was OK. Not excellent and I was getting of it in regard to the food. When our wait staff asked how our day was - I generally answered in excellent and that made them happy. Our staff did strive to make our meals excellent but there isn't anything they can do if they aren't cooking the food and they owned up to that. They did say they do pass the word on to the chef's. I thought the atmospheres of the restaurants WAS excellent. I could do with Animator's only one night - didn't need it for two nights. But loved Parrot Cay and Lumiere atmosphere.

DD wan't too impressed with Common Grounds and didn't spend as much time in there as I thought she would. She did set her alarm the night that it was invade the lab because she wanted to sleep a bit and then get up and go at 1. Well she didn't hear the alarm, I didn't hear it and dh heard but didn't know it was actually set for something so he didn't wake her up. She was upset. She did the Fury Catamaran and said it was okay. That was where she met most of the DISKids and I think that was it. She made a friend but didn't go the last night so she didn't get her email addy - she was upset.

Our stateroom host was great - sorry to hear your's wasn't. That is really horrible how you were being treated. Now the headwaiter we had I wasn't impressed with - we had the LAP late dinner also and our head was Jeff. Nice guy but catered mainly to the African-American families (he was from Kenya) that were near our table. Didn't impress us one bit. He should have catered to everyone evenly.

We were highly disappointed with WWTBAM.....VERY disappointed! The opening show was AWESOME - the first night. And we even went in and saw Dan Riley during the family time in Rockin' D. He was hilarious!!!!!

We did quite a bit of room service because we had late seating - we would get a snack - fruit or cookies or something - around 2pm if we were near the room because we weren't necessarily hungry for lunch because we'd eat breakfast a bit later.

My impression of the food is that it is gradually getting better. I also feel that the service in the dining room is improving. I had no complaints this time in the dining areas all over the ship.
