We are a divided house - black for hubby, green for me. Although he'll eat green ones now, so hubby is up for any olive. I'm particular, no black, but some of the other kinds can be acceptable - unfortunately I don't know their names, just what they look like in a salad
Follows my family too, there were pretty even split for who went for each side of the tray so we always had both. No pickles though.
And I'm so happy to hear the olive tray at Thanksgiving is pretty common. For just one year we combined turkey day and my mom come over to my ILs so we brought with us the couple things we like that they don't usually serve (and OMG, we almost didn't find a spot on the table for it
). The big one was the olive tray, ILs don't do it. We got a lot of questions on what's up with the olives? It was as foreign to them having one as it was for us to not have one. I started to wonder if we were just weird (well I know we are but that's a whole other story!) and maybe it was a regional thing. Now I wonder if they just didn't like olives so now their kids have no idea what a relish tray is
There are now new generations who won't be doing relish trays all thanks to my ILs!
Exactly!! We learned from my Mom. If that would have been a scene on TV there'd be a quick cut to Mom eating olives off her fingers going "What??"
I never really like black olives but I tolerated them if I played with them first. I always wished the green ones were big enough for fingers instead
