How much should I plan to pay in cash...?

N'Ex is the Narita Express train.

Difference between Suisa and Pasmo - basically no difference just sold by different companies. :)

Thanks wanderlust7! We ended up getting the Suica since it seemed like the one that would work in more areas (maybe? Its hard to tell, especially when so many articles at the top are old). We also ended up following google maps and took the Skyliner back to Narita... it was faster, less crowded and cheaper so I am not sure why I hadn't heard about it before. It only stops in Ueno/Nippori but when you have to transfer to another line anyway... it is operated buy keisei and not JR, so maybe that is why, but if anyone isn't getting the JR pass, then this is a nice alternative.
