How much is your 2024 vacation going to cost you?

I so want to do an Alaskan cruise but 3 of the children lobbied hard for Coco Cay again. We travel with another family who also is not into cold weather cruising so it might be a trip for just my DH and myself when I retire from teaching in 4 years
I tried to suggest Alaska many times to my immediate family but always got the same answer.. everyone wanted sun instead. This is an extended family trip this time and there are 16 of us going so the majority vote was Alaska !

Two trips to WDW planned for 2024: a long weekend in February (OKW 1BR for three nights) and then at least one week in late May, early June (four nights in 2BR at BRV and at least two nights at PVB in a LV studio). There are five of us in my family, but the second trip will include my parents for part of it (we'll be splitting the point cost on the 2BR) and we are providing a couple of rooms (PVB SV) for some friends and their extended family for two nights at the end of our May/June trip. Total DVC points cost is around $2,513 for our portion of the accommodations, including our friends. Airfare came to $2,159.15. We bought APs this year that covered our August trip and will cover both trips next year. Adding groceries, restaurants, snacks, souvenirs, transportation, and tips comes to about $2,525.00. That's a total of $7,197.15 for 2024.

Tell the children it's not a democracy and then find some true friends who will go to Alaska with you.

Kidding aside, you will not regret going to Alaska. It's beautiful. Just make sure to get a balcony when you go.

Driving down one tank of gas there and back about 40$. Staying overnight in Brunswick to go to the pinball palace. Hotel 150. Pinball 100. Food 80.

2 adults and 2 teens.

155 DVC points for a week at the riveria in April in a studio (okw points cash reservation would be about 5000$ . Dues are about 1200$ original buy in was about 85$ per point 15 years ago 2057 use year)

Hoping for Disney military tickets, budgeting 2000$ for four.

Currently have 1550$ in credit card rewards that should cover most food. We plan to try to do the Lounge at space 2020, skippers cantina, and 50s prime time. Space we have never done and skippers and 50s are the kids favorites. My husband and I mostly split food even at quick service and breakfast in the room.

We bring a grayl water filter for the Florida water. Carry it all through the parks.

400$ merchandise
300$ incidentals

My total
Dvc dues 1200
Tickets 2000
Pre trip transportation and pinball 380
Merchandise 400
Incidentals 300

Total 4280$

Without Dvc and gift cards and military discounts

Riveria room 5000
Tickets 2800
Pre trip transportation and pinball 380
Merchandise 400
Incidentals 300
Food 1550$

$10430

I am pretty cheap so looking at the totals together for our 2 -2024 is rough. We have also always been a once a year big trip family. Maybe even 1 big trip every 18m-2 years. I think going without trips During covid plus our kids finally being easy to travel with has made us increase our trips.

I’m having a hard time figuring out budgeting for multiple trips in a short amount of time. For example, we are going to Aulani next month. I have about $2000 in Disney gift cards saved but really hoping I don’t need it. If we don’t spend it that money will move into our 2024 budget.

Anyway.. we have 2 trips planned.

March/April Easter at WDW
3 days at VGF studio/ 4 days at BLT 1 bedroom standard
1 day ticket to Magic Kingdom Breakfast at CRT
Discovery Cove with Seaworld and Aquatica
Dining to include Chef Mickey breakfast, Narcossee dinner, GFC, Steakhouse 71 and Hoop de Doo

Total cost is coming around $6000 (we are dvc so I’m just counting dues on the points used, we paid for our contracts as we bought them so dues are what is coming out of my budget every month) I can cut this back a bit especially our dining. Doubt my kids care about eating at Narcossee but I certainly love it.

We did rent out some extra dvc points so that brought in around $1400 and I am going to cash a couple hundred dollars of credit card points so out of pocket it’s more like $4000.

Our Nov. 2024 is still up in the air. We are doing a cruise on Disney Fantasy for about $6500. Im hoping to have enough points to pay for the flights.
Here is where it gets tricky.
My ideal trip would look like this:
Friday: arrive at Wdw 2 nights on dvc points
Sat: Epcot dinner at Biergarten to celebrate our anniversary Ride Guardians(kids and DH haven’t yet)
Sun- sail away on Fantasy not doing any excursion/focusing on Disney islands and the ship so not much $ needed
Sat-come back spend night at Universal hotel/ attend Orlando informer event if dates line up
Sun-fly home

My ideal trip is well over $10,000 once you start adding on transportation and other things. Sure I can use discounted gift cards and credit card points but that only goes so far.
This trip will all depend on how much I work these next few months. If I work a lot of extra shifts like I did this year, my ideal trip can happen. If I stick to my normally scheduled part time hours the trip will be more like fly to FL, stay at Hyatt mco, cruise next day, come back to FL and fly home. Either one works and we will have a great time no matter what.

I am thinking in 4 years for my first summer of retirement we will go in July or August. My kids will be 30, 29, 27, and 25 so they can come if they want but I am going. Most definitely we will be getting a balcony. I make fake plans and excursions all the time.

I am taking our family of 6 to Africa for 3 weeks summer of 2024. I am estimating $25K.
Flights: $1,300 pp
Daily cost is about $100/pp per day for lodging, food, and transportation.
We are so excited. I am also taking 10 additional friends and extended family. It is going to be a great trip. I am planning the entire thing for all of us.

So, for 6 of us, I am estimating $25k for the entire family for 3 weeks, including airfare.

Last year we did trips to Sedona, AZ (family reunion) and an 11 night trip to Paris, Disneyland Paris, and Belfast.

2024 will be a light trip year for me.
I'll be doing a mini trip to Tampa in February to visit a cousin who is in assisted living there. And my favorite nephew from Orlando will join me too. Booked the Residence Inn in Oldsmar for two nights (two bedroom / one bath) that is just 15 minutes away from my cousin's assisted living group home. One of my co-workers who knows I love Disney said, "Is he really your favorite nephew. I bet you just say that because he lives in Orlando." lol. One day we'll take my cousin out to Clearwater beach for a dolphin boat ride and some hang out time there. One evening too, I'll take my nephew to the traveling Broadway show, Moulin Rouge that will be in Tampa. My nephew and I both really enjoy theatre and are looking forward to it. I'll also have at least one meal (maybe two) at the Salt Shack on the Bay in Tampa (my favorite seafood restaurant). Total outlay $1500

DH and I will do a mini trip to Charleston, SC in April staying in the historic district for three nights -- total outlay 2.5K We'll do a carriage ride tour of the historic district, visit a historic home, and visit the Middleton Plantation.

Most of my vacation budget, though, this year (8.5K) will be hosting out of town extended family in our hometown in St. Louis for my son's wedding. I decided to cover airfares and hotel rooms for 12 dear relatives (four are driving). Six will be spending three nights in the area, and six will be spending four nights in the area. I'm putting them all up in a Best Western near our home. Used Southwest points for most of the airfares, but will do cash for some, and I'm budgeting for extra food, etc. for hosting people in our home. I'll also need to board our dog for part of the time. Party time in St. Louis! We'll do outings to the Zoo, the Arch, and for my sister-in-law who is really into history and has a strong interest in Harry Truman, we'll do an overnight in Independence, MO with her group to visit the Truman Presidential Library after other extended family have left -- it's almost a four hour drive to get there, but she's been wanting to combine that with a trip to see us for years.

IF I actually make it to Disneyland this year my guess is that it will cost between $2,000 - $2,500 just for me. I haven't really run the numbers so this is just an estimate.

January 2024 is our Anniversary. We're still deciding. I really want to go to Jackson Hole and stay at the Rustic Inn. DH doesn't want to go anywhere cold. Guesstimate $4K

Our other option is Punta Cana and stay in one of the Majestic resorts. Guesstimate $5K.

June 2024 is our family reunion in Broken Bow, OK. Guesstimate $2K.

July 2024 family and friends cruise to Alaska leaving from Seattle round trip. We were able to book via casino Royale and that saved us a ton of money. Guesstimate $5K.

Fall 2024 I'm going to sweet talk DH into going to Italy. LOL!

Haven’t decided where we’re going yet. Waiting for the 7 month mark so I can book a non home resort. Want to stay HHI, but their availability seems lower than normal. Might do Vero Beach instead. Or just break down and do Disney again… Just a few park days though. Saving air miles so we will be driving! Once I get the location pinned down, I’ll post an estimated cost. Crazy how different it can be between Disney and the beach resorts!
We have visited vb and hhi. Dvc beach vacations seem to need a lower budget than wdw or dlr. we love both types of vacations though
Hhi is getting tougher to get into at 7 months with points it appears

In 2024, we are using dvc points to visit hhi, dlr and wdw.
Hhi is the cheapest (points and driving)
Dlr is the most expensive (flying and points)
Wdw is in the middle (points and driving)

September stay

14 nights staying at Pop
14 day magic ticket
flights with british airways LGW to MCO
over night sty at LGW airport

=A little over $5k for 2 adults

👍 Goodluck with June being your last parks trip in 2024 lol

It’s like you know me, but we’ve never met. If I had more money and more time off, I would be back at the World in no time. We originally planned just a simple 10 day trip in May and June, but with SW’s airfare sale, we decided to add February to get away from the Chicago cold. Plus, it’s right after my wife’s birthday and she wanted a getaway for her birthday. We keep tacking on days to the May/June trip, so now we are four days, three nights in February and nine days, eight nights in May/June.

Perhaps, I will be lucky enough to go spend even more money at WDW before the boys are back in school, but my guess is work will not like me taking off that many days.

Haha that sounds very familiar!

We started this year with just 1 trip planned in December. Then DH landed Tron opening tickets from D23 and we went for the weekend. Family decided to join Dec trip so we added 2 days to that. Then last month DH booked us a quick trip to Disneyland for Halloween.

Somehow it always ends up more trips than initially planned.

We usually go shoulder season but with DS getting older and missing school becoming more problematic we are going during spring break.

Flights for 4 from Seattle - points mainly from credit card sign ups and $150
1 week in a sav view 1 br at AKL, 1 week in a 1 br at OKW - $900 total via timeshare exchange
5 night cruise on Royal Caribbean in a balcony - another timeshare exchange plus $1250 upfront, likely another $500 in tips and onboard spending
4 days in random hotels - points plus $420
Rental car for 3 weeks - $840
We always buy groceries and do 1 or 2 meals a day in our unit so food costs should be pretty reasonable.
Haven’t decided yet what we are doing for park tickets. The cruise is in between the weeks at Disney so still trying to figure out what will work best.
