How does “fast pass” and show bookings work in Tokyo?

I’m currently planning our Feb/March 24 trip. We will be staying 5 nights, so 4 days in the parks. Staying at Disneyland Hotel. Im totally confused to how fast pass (or whatever they call it) works and show bookings. I understand you need to use the app but I don’t get the Lottery part Or how/when to book. I’m prepared to pay extra, if needed.

There are 3 types of “FP’ available. One is Premiere Access - think ILL at WDW. The other is Standby - only HM had this while we were there. The final one is for stage shows. Once you’ve entered the park, scan in your tickets and click on entry request. It’s a one time shot/chance per day. Used for Big Band Beat etc.
