I had stayed in it prior to the renovation and new management. It was just what I paid for, which was cheap but clean and close. I liked the older kitschiness of the place. But I stayed there again last October because the rates weren't too bad and the reno looked great in the pictures, plus I love Pizza Press!! I'm not looking for a lot, just working order, clean & decent. The staff was friendly, the lobby and pizza press were nice, but the rooms!! There were 4 of us (adult women) and it fell WAY short in the 3 areas I just mentioned. We were moved 3 times before we got a room that had working air etc. We'd been told when we went to change the room the first time (A/C didn't work and our front door was partially obstructed by an ice machine that was out of order) that we'd have a huge room with a balcony etc but turned out that wasn't even possible so it was untrue from the beginning. Second room was next to a whole bank of AC units and was so LOUD we could barely hear each other. The rooms did not look like they'd just been renovated; I won't be trying that hotel again. There are nicer rooms near the front, but we weren't able to get into those because we were 4 adults. I don't understand the logic of that, but that's what they told us.
ETA: There are many motels that offer the same or better amenities and are as close or closer for the same price. I'd go with BWPPI, Desert Inn and Suites, or Park Vu Inn, even if the cost was a little higher (those places are all closer and offer breakfast, though DS&I's breakfast is pretty meager).
