ORLANDO, Fla. -- Hard Rock Cafe International, which has long displayed rock memorabilia in its 100 restaurants, plans to open an interactive museum showcasing its $32 million collection, company officials said Monday.
The Hard Rock Vault is scheduled to open in November 2002 on International Drive, Orlando's busy tourist corridor.
The museum will look at the evolution of music and the effects it has had on world events, said Pete Beaudrault, president and chief executive officer of Orlando-based Hard Rock Cafe International.
"Time after time our guests have told us that they are looking for an opportunity to make a personal, physical and sometimes even spiritual connection to the music and artists of their time,'' Beaudrault said. "With that in mind, we have taken the memorabilia experience beyond the confines of a cafe and past the velvet rope.''
The Hard Rock Vault, encompassing more than 17,000 feet, will immerse music fans in a timeline of the evolution of music through videos, costumes and memorabilia, Beaudrault said.
Hard Rock is one of the leading collectors of rock memorabilia. It has 64,000 items valued at more than $32 million.
