We love Sedona. I've gone there for five different one week trips. Phoenix is the closest major airport. It usually take us two hour to get to Sedona. Some people will fly into Las Vegas. It's farther, but sometimes flight prices are better and people sometimes like to stay here a day or two before or after a trip. There are several nice timeshare resorts in the Sedona area. We usually stay at Arroya Roble (Gold Crown RCI resort) -- it's an older but well maintained timeshare resort. It has a great location right by uptown -- walking distance (although up a hill) to shops and resturants, has beautiful grounds, and plenty on ammenities -- club house, indoor/outdoor pool, and tennis. There is a river that runs right through the property. Most people recommend spending two nights at the Grand Canyon -- booking those reservations first because they are hard to get and doing the balance in Sedona (beautiful and lots to do there). We, probably because we book our resort for a full week have always stayed in Sedona for the whole time and do one day trip to the Grand Canyon (two hours each way - very doable). There are some very knowledable destination experts on the trip advisor site who could give you a lot more information, if you want to post on Tripadvisor.com. On the home page, search on Sedona, AZ, and pick forums.
