Funny- timeshare “specialist” said my brother’s SSR contract is only worth about $75pp

Thought you would all appreciate the humor….

My brother owns SSR (160 pts, October use year). He’s curious about the market value so reached out to a TS “specialist” who helped him buy a Hilton TS resale.

She told him she can sell his SSR contract for $70-80pp. If he wants to sell “quick” it’s $70-75 but If he’s willing to wait, it’ll be $75-80pp.

I’m so amused. He asked me if his SSR contract was really worth that much. I told him I’ll buy it off him if he wants to sell it at that price.

Any takers here, even on the “high side”?? J/k

Thought you would all be as amused as I am right now. I attached the email she sent to him. Funny.

Tell your brother he's got an eager buyer right here at THAT price. 80 bucks a point? Yup, you betcha.

Sheesh! And we thought we'd probably have to cough up $145pp. Little did we know... 😁

He said it was a resale Hilton timeshare that gives him a 2bd during high season-- maintenance is $1500/year and he paid $3k for the property. Shrug. I don't know what that means.

He has FOUR children ages 2-12, so he can't stay in a hotel room, and I guess timeshares is the way to go for him going forward....

I want his SSR contract for $80pp. I told him I'm willing to pay top dollar for it.

Disney would take it first, unless you hide the sale. Tell him I'll buy it for $95! Haha

I'm used to DVC prices, so the Hilton purchase doesn't seem bad. But no idea

This is Disboards, so kinda bit off topic on the Hilton / HGVC, but I will comment. If the 2-bedroom high season is a platinum season unit (7,000 old points / 11,200 new points), $3K is actually a very good price for it. If it's gold unit, he probably slightly overpaid by maybe $500-$1500. Which HGVC resort, and how many points did he get?

Although I would buy SSR at $80 / pt. in today's market, I wouldn't even agree to make that deal with your brother even if he is willing to sell at that price. Why, because DVC will ROFR it, so I won't get anything out of the deal. I know there's other that say you never know with DVC ROFR until you take the chance, but the probability is > 99.9999% ROFR, why not do the seller a service and explain the current resale pricing in today's market, instead of trying to take advantage of something that you won't benefit from anyways, and will end up helping DVC with an awesome price while trying to take advantage of someone?

Great3

My guess is that magically there isn't any buyer, and suddenly the real estate agent steps in to say that since he's such a loyal customer the TS specialist will take it off his hands. However, you may want to crop the picture just a bit more, the TS "specialist"'s name can be seen.

I’m jesting with my brother- he said his wife will divorce him if he sells his dvc.

I’m the one who convinced him to purchase dvc (his wife has wanted dvc for years). I provided him with a spreadsheet with savings calculations- I think he bought 3-4 yrs ago resale for $95pp before the additional restrictions (so he can still get a blue card). I've owned DVC since 2011, with addonitis hitting in 2013. I haven't regretted my DVC purchase except when they changed the system to Geinie, then up'ed the ticket prices and stopped selling AP's-- I'm still going, but now trying to figure out how to maximize my trips. DIsboards has been super helpful!

I’ll get the details on his Hilton resale purchase.

So my brother said that he bought 8,000 points, gold season at Sea World Hilton.....

Okay, 2-bedrom gold season (5,000 old points / 8,000 new points value) is probably worth about $1,500 - $2000, not including closing costs, in my opinion. $3K is not terribly over price, but initial cost really isn't the big expense of timesharing, so tell your brother to just enjoy the usage and not worry too much over water under the bridge; just create many precious memories on vacation with his family. I will say that HGVC is my most favorite ownership and timeshare system (ops, did I just say that out loud in a DVC forum?). However, although timeshare is not an investment, DVC has held it's value better and only timeshare to increase in value, so it's a very close 2nd to me. But I will be honest, Hawaii vacation is best for me, but my family love Disney too, so whatever makes the family happy :).

Thank you! My brother should go to me, who will then go to disboards, for all timeshare questions going forward!! That was his mistake.... j/k

Personally, I'm thinking about getting a hilton myrtle beach timeshare bc it's drivable for us. Granted, it's 10 hours with traffic right now, and Disney is only 14 hours for us.... maybe we will just stick with DVC :)

We love our Hilton timeshare. But we also love Disney. Our Hilton resale is an every other year plan and we just closed on a small SSR resale so now we can have the best of both worlds :)

Whats the best hilton TS property in your opinion (maintenance fees, etc)? Looking for a resale....

The specialist would happily con your brother and trouser the profits. Good business if people are daft enough to believe them. Good from a financial perspective, not moral perspective I add!

Tell him to come see us on Tugs too 😂🤣🥰 Tugbbs. That’s a whole community dedicated towards nothing but timeshares 😂

Actually I think Tug (timeshare users group?) is the go to for non DVC timeshare advice, based on the few times I’ve wandered over there I’ve decided understanding non DVC timeshares is really complicated.

It’s sooooo complicated that’s it’s scared me off and I retreat to my dvc points only….
Oh no!! Just take your time and work your way through it.
