Experience at Contemporary Resort

Hi,

I would like to share my recent experience at the Contemporary Resort. I have been a Disney fan for a long time now... and one of my dream was to stay at the Contempoary (ever since I visited WDW when I was 16 yr old). An opportunity came up and I decided to fork up the $$ and booked the reservation. I also thought this would be an excellent experience for my kids.

However I was extremely disappointed when we checked into our room 7135 and found a mildew smelling room. We opened our slidding door for a few moment and turned on the air conditionning. We left the room and went on to MK. When we returned at night, we still found a stinky room. I called the mousekeeping for some air refreshner and they had no air refreshner available. Since we were so exhausted, we just crashed into our bed.

Next morning, I got up at 6AM with itches all over my legs. I quickly ran into the bathroom and found little bumps all over my legs. Yikes!!! I was so upset that I got dressed quickly and went to the front desk. I explained the situation to the CM at the front desk. I thought that he was extremely cold and just offered me with another room. We did eventually move to another room and the moldy order was not there in the second room. However I still found the room to be dirty - both rooms had dirt on the carpet, first room had stains on the comforter and the second room had stains on the sofa.

Is it just me, but I expected alot more from a "Delux Resort"? The good side of this resort is the convience, spacy room and talking elevators. But I prefer cleaniness than any of the benefits!!!

Thanks for listening!!!!
Ann

For all your troubles with the CR. When you initially entered the room and noticed the mildew "odor", you should have immediately called the front desk for a room change. You would have avoided the problem entirely. If the second room is unacceptable, call again. More than likely, after the second call...a manager would have escorted you personally to another room, and inspected the premises "together", with you, to insure your approval. Everyone has different impressions and standards, and the management is well-trained in this area. I'm sure they would have taken any steps necessary to insure you had a memorable/enjoyable stay.

These things occur on rare occasions. I would never "remain" in a room (even if I'm dog tired) which I feel is unsanitary or plagued with problems. But, that's just me. :p I have enjoyed stays at the CR (Tower), and have always been thrilled with the accomodations and staff. We are looking forward to another stay in a 1 BR suite on the 14th floor this summer, and anticipate a wonderful time. ;) But, if things are not as expected, I would not hesitate to phone the management for a prompt room change, etc.

I surely hope you do not permit this experience to "ruin" your memories, or your desire for future stays. I also hope your children had a good time, and enjoyed WDW. Happy New Year!

you did not say which part of CR you stayed in, I just got back from CR 2 weeks ago , we stayed 7 nights in the tower and never had a problem with anything. All of the cast members that we spoke to were always very pleasent and helpful . Maybe you just were unlucky on your trip, but I think I would have called as soon as I got in the room the first time and kept calling until I was happy .Anyway good luck on your next trip

We have stayed at the CR twice, once in the tower and once in the Garden wing. Both times were very clean. However in the tower there was a wire hanging out of our lamp that could have caused a problem had my kids touched it. We called and it was fixed within 10 minutes. We really liked the CR and would not hesitate to go back.

I can understand why you didn't call and complain the second time. That happened this summer to us at the BWV and BC hotel room. We tried to just go with the flow and not complain but in the end I had to. However I waited until the last day and spoke with a manager. Then when we got home I wrote a letter to complain. We too encountered very dirty conditions and were VERY disappointed. We are going again soon and I can assure you that if ANYTHING is out of line or dirty I will immediately complain and make them fix it. We try to give the benefit of the doubt but when things are dirty that is just unacceptable.

I hope your next trip is great!:Pinkbounc

Those bumps you were talking about could have been "no-see-um" bites. Do you know about these? Sometimes they are a problem in Florida and sometimes they are not. We never had a problem in five trips but in October we had a problem at WL and VB. They itch like crazy!!!!!! We avoid going to the pool at sundown or sunrise and try to wear OFF (even though we don't like to use it all the time because it has DEET in it).

Wasn't sure you were aware of these little critters but it sounds like maybe you encountered them?????

I was thinking the same thing.... the noseeums... especially if you left your sliding door open! Those little guys are nasty!

you did not say which part of CR you stayed in,

If the 1st number was a 7 then, that guest was in the Tower... there are only 3 floors in the wings, and the 1st number of the room number is the floor on which you are staying, so this guest, was on floor 7, room 135.

I do agree, that if the room was unacceptible upon receipt, something should have been done about it at that time, instead of waiting.. however, I suppose the guest was trying to give in the benefit of the doubt, by airing it out. It is too bad that it had such a negative impact upon her stay, but I hope that it will not keep her from staying at the Contemporary in the future.

We stayed in the South Wing last January, and found it quite charming!

I thought all rooms in the Tower started with "4". You add the first two numbers of the four digit room number to get the floor. For example room 4519 would be on the 9th floor (4 + 5). Correct?

I think from our experience at POR, I would now call immediately to have a not so clean room cleaned.
Our first day at POR was very rushed. Our plane was 2 hours late, and we literally just dropped off our luggage without seeing the room until we got in late that night (and dead dog tired).
I know the way I thought was -- I'm on vacation, Just ignore it; Have a good time; Tip and maybe it will improve. But it didn't.
NOW I know from experience to just call down right away and ask for someone to re-clean (and do a better job) while we are in the parks.
I wouldn't be hostile. But I wouldn't want a repeat of the room we had at POR either. And I'm not a clean nut. I can only imagine what it would be like if someone was picky and stayed in a room like we had! :p They would have known to call, or spent an afternoon cleaning it themselves. ;)

I truly sympathize with you. We had an equally awful stay at the Contemporary last summer - I would never stay there again. I also found the CM's to be cold and actually quite rude. I have stayed at a few Disney properties and have never encountered the attitude I found at the Contemporary at any of the other resorts. In fact, at the WL and POR I have found the CM's to be simply spectacular! Don't let this bad experience ruin the magic for you. Make plans for a new trip soon! We recently returned from a magical Christmas visit to Disney (POR) which more than made up for the bad impressions left by our summer Contemporary visit. -:D

I'm sorry you found an unpleasant room. I on the other hand found the Contemporary spotless in comparison to other WDW resorts I've stayed at. Just goes to show you that sometimes housekeeping just doesn't do the job right. It can happen at any hotel.

Were the bug bites you had no-seeums, or bed bugs?

I recently (Dec 4) had 2 BWI rooms before I would stay in one.

The first room smelled. I don;t know what the smell was. It was a cross between really strong icky perfume and industrial cleaner. Yuck!

The second room was on the driveway circle, has a partition blocking the driveway and (this is what got me out of there) a SHARED patio! I was staying alone and there was no way I would have a common patio with the room next door. That was not acceptable.

SO the third time I dragged my sorry but back to the front desk I stayed until they could tell me just where my room would be. I was on the first floor, not far down, facing the rose garden. It was a very nice room and one that I happily settled into.

If you are not satisfied with your room assignment, speak up! Disney will do everything they can to get you what you need.
