Ever receive a room upgrade?

Oh my gosh Buzzster, were you ever lucky! DH and I stayed at the Beach Club, off season, where it was noted we were celebrating our 25th anniversary. All we got were two buttons to wear, and were placed in seemingly the furthest room from the lobby there was. On the other hand, our family was booked for one night only at Wilderness Lodge in a standard room before moving to the CR, and found we'd been upgraded to a courtyard view. Because it was only for one night.

I was originally booked at French Quarter in November 2019. A customer service rep called me and said they needed a block of rooms so they were switching me to The Grand Floridian at no extra cost. They said it was pixie dust. I had a nice lagoon room and reservation was immediately updated on my Disney Experience. I got to enjoy the Christmas decor and resort. Was very happy for the pixie dust!
We had something very similar happen a few years ago. We were also booked at one of the Port Orleans resorts, can't remember which for the life of me, but we were upgraded to Polynesian. Needless to say we were more than thrilled with that.

Yes!

In 2016 my family of 6 was booked at CBR. The only reason we were allowed to book there was because 2 of our kids were 2 and the room slept 5.

When we arrived we were offered a 2 bedroom villa at Saratoga Springs Resort. It was amazing and that room for 5 days cost more than the entire trip we booked including meal plans, room, and tickets.

Yes, but it was probably a decade ago now. We had booked a garden view at Yacht Club and were upgraded to a pool view corner room, which was beautiful and larger than normal. I think we had put on the reservation that we were celebrating our engagement. We didn't get engaged IN Disney, but shortly beforehand. I look back and wonder if they upgraded us because they thought my husband would be proposing on the actual trip.

In May of 2019, for my son’s 8-day HS grad trip (which I didn’t note anywhere on our reservation), we arrived at BWI and were told our room wasn’t ready. We were then asked if it were okay if they put us (only my son and me) in a 2-bedroom club level - um, yes please! We were given the Sonora Suite. It was amazing, but then we felt guilty the entire trip for not spending more time in the room or at CL! Right when Disney reopened, we stayed at BCV four times. We booked 1-bedroom, but we were given 2-bedroom each time - not sure if that was truly an upgrade since the place was deserted. Our most recent trip in August, we had a standard CL at BWI booked and were given a deluxe room on the 3rd floor. At first I was disappointed because I wanted to be on the 4th floor, but we ended up loving the space and the short trek up the stairs to the club. I would actually request one of those rooms now.

Have any of you ever received a room upgrade at WDW? Where were you staying? What were the circumstances? Did you ask for it or was it a surprise?

3 times.

1. Checked into POFQ with a standard room, and asked if there was any pool view rooms available(was going to pay) but they switched us free of charge.
2. Was staying 1 night pre-cruise at POFQ, about a month before got a call they wanted to upgrade us to the grand Floridian free of charge.
3. And my all time favorite…Was staying at AKL in a standard room with a friend. We got to the hotel mid day, room wasn’t ready so we went to the parks, got back around 9 and they had upgraded us to a king bed pool view room, but we really didn’t wanna share a bed. So said thanks but we do really need the double beds I booked, at there wasn’t many rooms left so we were upgraded to club level savannah view room!

DH and I went in late 2020 during Covid. We booked a regular room at Saratoga Springs. Did on-line check-in and when we arrived we were taken to our building on a golf cart. We were surprised to find they assigned us a one bedroom villa ~ it was great!!! Lots of space and it even had the washer/dryer which came in handy since it was so hot and sweaty during that time.

Just once. In 2019 I booked a standard view at Beach club and got upgraded to a garden room (but was one of the room that has also a view of crescent lake, even if it’s labeled as garden view.
was lovely also because it was super near to the lobby.

We booked the cheapest room at CSR for DD's honeymoon in 2021 because that's what was affordable; 2 beds, no view. They were upgraded to tower room with fireworks view!

Yes. I presume it’s random and based on availability. We’ve had a dozen or so resort stays that I can recall and we’ve had three upgrades- 2 @ BWV and 1@ AKL. It was not asked for and yes it was a surprise.

I was upgraded to a concierge room at yacht club. It was a anniversary trip and I had that listed on the reservation. It was a complete surprise. It was also smart for them because for my next trip I paid for concierge when I would have never considered it.

I had a standard room booked at Music. We were a family of 5 but with an almost 3 year old and we were upgraded to a family suite. I didn't ask or hint for anything and had no idea until we walked in to the room. I knew we had received an upgrade of some sort because it was a pool view and steps from the lobby, which I clearly hadn't booked, but I was even more shocked when I walked in a saw it was a family suite! It was such a blessing to be able to have more space and to be able to easily go to the pool and lobby.

On our YC trip 2 weeks ago, my DD was talking to the cast member, Claudia, as she checked us in and told her we were there celebrating my 60th birthday. She upgraded us from standard view to water view, room 3069, which was absolutely awesome. I loved sitting on the balcony people watching. Best trip ever!

Yes! On our honeymoon we were upgraded from a Main Tower Lake View to 2 Bedroom Lake View Club Level Suite (it was a huge surprise). Was once "upgraded" to GF from WL, probably due to overbooking at WL.

We’ve been upgraded in almost every way possible at almost every deluxe resort. It’s happened so much it‘s humorous. I have no idea why we’ve had upgrades, I rarely note a special occasion when I make a reservation. A majority of the time, I reserve the room online and I never put in room requests.

upgraded from regular room to: Club level at multiple resorts, suites at the BC, WL, and GF, and what I believe is the presidential suite at the YC- whatever that top tower room is, it may be the next lower category, this was about 7-8 years ago. BC was full so that’s what they offered us as a replacement. That was a crazy upgrade. We thought our magic bands didn’t work because the room entrance is a double door around a corner but you come to the connecting room first before making that turn so we thought that was the entrance, but you could only enter there after activating through the main door. We spoke to the CM working club and said we didn’t think our bands were activated and she took us to the correct door. Doh! We rounded the corner and were like Ohhhhh ya that makes sense. This was right around the time they were renovating, the decor was not to my taste but it may have improved since then and the rooms were ridiculously huge for a family of 4. My kids were young and I thought DH and I would get some nice alone time- but the bedroom doors were French doors and didn’t lock- fabulous- and the kids were stuck to us like glue anyway so no significant QT for the grownups… stellar views, but I’d rather have had much smaller digs and a bedroom door that locked lol.

At one of the suite upgrades at the GF, we also didn’t realize that it had an additional connecting room. The adults had a bedroom with a king and we put our two kids on the pullout in the living room. Somehow, on the second to last day, we realized there was another room with 2 queens associated with the suite so we moved the kids in there. I took a picture of the door sign for once and that was the Biscayne Suite. So now that I’m telling these stories, I realize that we probably have no business being upgraded lol since we don’t even understand which rooms are ours.

The upgrades are nice due to a little more space, a nice view, club cocktails etc, and it’s fun to get something for nothing- especially at WDW because y’all know how that goes- but in terms of changing the quality of the experience, it adds nothing. Spending time with friends and family is the memorable and irreplaceable thing. If anything, getting an upgrade merely highlights how little things like upgrades matter when you’re with people you love. Sounds trite but it’s a fact.

I book standard view and have been upgrade a view times to different view. At POFQ, we got a garden view once. At Pop, we've gotten a pool view. At WL, we got a water view that looked out onto the boat launch.

The best "pixie dust" was for a trip I booked pre-COVID. February 2020, I had booked a trip to POFQ for April 2021. Then covid happened. I wasn't sure what we were going to do with the trip but in February 2021, I got a call and because POFQ hadn't reopened yet, they could move us to the Grand Floridan at no additional cost. I couldn't say no to that. We were booked as "outer building garden view" but when we got there, we were placed in "outer building theme park view". It would have been amazing to watch the fireworks but sadly, they hadn't returned yet.

upgraded from standard room at Contemporary to Concierge level! I am an All Stars budget (and that is a splurge) single mom travelling with my adult son and we had had a horrible year. I decided to book the cheapist room at Contemporary for 1 night. Went to check in and the cm said this doesn't seem possible but they have put you in concierge. He escorted us in the elevator to a desk to sit while we checked in and offered to bring us a drink!!! We almost died. It was extraordinary. We sat in concierge lounge and sipped Grand Marnier which I had never tasted and looked in awe at the castle!!!!! More than pixie dust.

Just love this! So happy for you and your family! The Disney magic is still there!

My mouth is still agog. We were recently, October, staying 12 days - 4 at Cabana Bay (Universal), 4 days French Quarter, and 4 days Coronado. On our second night at French Quarters - a plumbing issue arose below our room. We were offered a room at Riverside, and refused as it is a dog resort (which we avoid) and said we wouldn't move there, It was getting late, around ll:00 pm we agreed to move to the Poly - not knowing what to expect. Oh my - we received a waterview - park view in the Club Level in the Hawaiian section. What a pleasant shock - we had no idea what this involved having never stayed anywhere but a value and a moderate. I'm still floating - we'll probably never be able to afford such a room ever. Thanks Disney, we've been going to WDW since it opened in 1971 so we are ancient. What a gift.
