Ever receive a room upgrade?

I have been upgraded room categories a few times - standard views to garden or water views. It was nothing I asked for - I'm assuming they assigned the rooms based on their occupancy needs.

We’ve been going to WDW since 1993, many years multiple trips. We often stay CL at YC. One year we had a CL trip for the fall. We were only there for a long weekend in the spring so I booked a regular water view room. On check in we were upgraded to a CL waterview.

We were not planning on going for the 50th anniversary weekend, but decided to join our DS & DDIL who were going. Didn’t want to spend a fortune for just the weekend, but also didn’t want to depend on buses, not knowing how busy it would be. We booked CR standard view in the garden wing. We were upgraded to a garden view room in the garden wing. It was perfect, quiet, with a view of the canal that the boats go thru. We were able to watch the Electric Water Parade pass right by our patio.

The biggest upgrade was actually 2 major upgrades on the same trip. It was the mother of all upgrades. I had booked 3 nights at CR CL & 4 nights YC CL for early December 2015 thru the bounceback line & had a great CM. We chatted about our upcoming trip to Disneyland for their 60th anniversary. I said on the bounceback reservations I was making we would be celebrating my DH’s 60th birthday, even tho it was a few weeks before the actual date. I said since Disney celebrates for a year, we would too. The CM said several times she would note the birthday, because you never know when pixie dust will happen. When we checked in at CR, we were upgraded from a king standard room to a 2 bedroom suite. The bedrooms were regular rooms, but we had a huge living room, dining room, kitchenette, 3 bathrooms, huge balconies & a Christmas tree in the room. We left there & checked in to YC CL. The CM was excited to tell us we were upgrade, to the Captain’s Deck suite no less. She said it is the largest suite at YC. This suite takes up a whole hallway on the first floor. It has a marble foyer, dining room with table that seats 10, full kitchen, living room with entertainment center, small office area with 1/2 bath, 2nd bedroom with 2 queen beds, master bedroom with king canopy bed, walk in closet, dressing room, huge master shower with jetted tub, walk in shower & tv in the mirror. And multiple patios. It was crazy. We were in shock the whole time. I have no proof but I’m sure the lovely CM that made my bounceback reservations had something to do with these upgrades. We’ll remember that trip forever.

In 2019, we were upgraded from Caribbean Beach Resort’s least expensive to most expensive room.

In 2020, we were upgraded from a Boardwalk Villas Studio Standard View to a one-bedroom Water View.

Both were booked less than 2 weeks before, after neither room category showing availability before that.

In both cases, I suspect the room category that I booked was full and Disney was simply trying to fill a more expensive room by selling it as a less expensive room.

The same happened to us late in 2021 at the Hard Rock. This also was a last-minute booking. In this case, I was explicitly told that they were just trying to fill unsold rooms.

Many years ago on a trip with my parents we were upgraded from a garden wing standard view room at the contemporary to a tower theme park view room. It was magical fantastic!

2005 upgraded from BC standard view to CL overlooking Crescent Lake for our honeymoon.

Have any of you ever received a room upgrade at WDW? Where were you staying? What were the circumstances? Did you ask for it or was it a surprise?
Yes. We were staying 7 nights at Riviera and upgraded from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom. It was for sure a surprise as we did not ask for it but there were circumstances that warranted it. We arrived at WDW at around 10:00 am after checking out of Portofino Bay at Universal. We knew we were early and had every intention of dropping our bags at bell services and heading to Epcot for our lunch ADR at Le Cellier. Well, we pulled up as we have done many times before and we were not parked in the way at all. There was at least 3 car widths beside us for thru traffic. I opened the lift gate from inside then stepped out as did my wife and kids. The man at the podium for valet yelled at me "You can't park here!" so I asked where can I park and he said in a parking lot. I tried to explain we were checking in and needed to unload all our luggage but he yelled "move!" so I pulled down a little next to the sidewalk and walked inside to check in. Of course our room wasn't ready and I didn't expect it to be. I asked if I could unload and park our luggage and they said of course you can. I asked if I could go get a cart and they said bell services was out front and would load it for me. I then explained what happened and a manager overheard it and walked me outside to help me. By then a nice young man that had seen what happened when we puled up was already unloading our luggage where we were parked. Long story I know but to sum it up, once we got back from Epcot, after we got our room ready text, we were really surprised that we got a 2 bedroom! Then it got worse lol. We called for our luggage and when it arrived the bell hop handed me our daughters iPad and 3 of our bags were missing. The iPad was inside our youngest daughters suitcase. We all went down to find out how this happened and just walked inside bag storage to find our missing bags on someone else's cart. It got really bad as I was pissed! Anyway, we somehow received 3 breakfast ADR's at Topolinos that were previously unavailable. And they were credited back at check out. Go figure lol.

Upgraded at POR from standard to river view, at CSR from standard to preferred, at BWI from standard to garden, at YC from standard to water view, and at BC from standard to club level garden. All were short stays, ranging from 1-4 nights (we always do split stays, so are never in one place for too long). We have never asked for an upgrade.

We had a short stay at the Poly at the start of our Poly/Beach club split. We checked in at the counter and the Cast Member was super nice. My daughter lost her first tooth on the plane and was excitedly talking about it and then we said about how we had canceled this trip 3 times and this was our 4th time trying and were so excited to finally be here.

When I checked the app later in the day, I saw that we were upgraded to club level. Who knows if any of those things mattered but it was a nice surprise.

OOoh that nasty bell services crap happened to us at BWV as well. They were SO RUDE (frankly all the CM's there were). We pulled up to unload our luggage and the guys there yelled at us that we couldn't stop there. He made my DH (even though I explained he had a bad knee, requiring a knee replacement) go park the car in the parking lot and drag the bags in from there.

Have any of you ever received a room upgrade at WDW? Where were you staying? What were the circumstances? Did you ask for it or was it a surprise?
A few weeks ago! The first one we have ever received in 20 years. We booked a standard room at Beach Club and were upgraded to Club Level. It was a total surprise. We didn't ask - we were just told we were there. I said to the CM that we didn't book a club level room and the CM just said that we must have been 'pixie dusted'. We were so excited and it was so unexpected.

We were upgraded from MK view Poly in 2008 to Concierge MK view, with balcony 3rd floor.

we just got an email letting us know we’re are staying in a deluxe room at wilderness lodge from the club level folks and asked what beverages we wanted stocked in the fridge….but we did not book a deluxe room. I am guessing we just got upgraded for our sept 11th trip!!!

The shorter your stay, the more likely you are to be upgraded. Not always, but more times than not. We’ve received a slight view upgrade a few times, we stay 10 nights or more at a time, so any “bigger” upgrades are very unlikely unless there’s an issue.

Many years ago I received a hotel and room upgrade. I was booked at Port Orleans Riverside for a weekend - just a thursday night, friday night and saturday night trip.

I was solo and I'd driven there - I arrived at POR Riverside and the security officer at the gate said I was at the wrong hotel and sent me to the Grand Floridian.
I was floored. But I drove there discovered I had indeed been upgraded to the Grand Floridian when I was at the security gate.
I parked my car, grabbed the suitcase and was met by a lovely cast member who asked my name. When I told her, she smiled and informed me she would escort me to my CLUB LEVEL room. I was so excited. I'd never stayed club level before. It was such a wonderful surprise.

Another time I was booked in a standard room at the Beach Club and when I arrived I was upgraded to a Club Level room. That was another quick weekend trip - just a friday and saturday night trip.
I've also been upgraded from a regular room at POR Riverside to a river view princess themed room several times. Those were also a weekend solo trip.

It's been a few years since I've received a room upgrade. I'm thinking they don't do them as often as they used to.

We got upgraded twice- once at AS Movies when we had a standard room booked and were telling the CM at the front desk that we had stayed at every section except Fantasia. Guess what section we were upgraded to? 😁The 2nd time was when we added a day to the front of our POP trip and there was nothing available there so we booked AS Mu. Turns out AS Mu was overbooked so they put us in our POP room a night early. Definetly a wonderful upgrade for us!

Best upgrade ever was our 15th Wedding Anniversary. Staying at the Beach Club on a split stay. I go to the desk to ask if we can just stay in our initial room, desk says….”I do not think you’ll want to do that and heads me the gold club level cards”. We walked to our new room and kept walking. Ended up in 1505, the corner room for Beach Club closest to Epcot. Had a sitting room and adorable patio. It was 126 steps to the international gateway. So close, I was in the quiet pool and my wife said,”I want fish and chips”. Walked over to Yorkshire and back in no time. Was the COOLEST stay ever.
