....there was a World Championship for Marital Arts going on at the resort. Some people are opposed to this hubbub since it is a convention center, but we did not find it disturbing at all.

...BTW, all check-in is at the tower, regardless of your room location.

[EDIT: my sister checked in later that evening, and they stopped at the BC/YC before arriving at Gran Destino Tower.]

Yeah - DME busses are not generally one resort per bus. They organize them usually with close to each other resorts, but very early or very late they may not be as clustered in order to avoid long waits.

....I guess it's the luck of the draw. We arrived around 3:30 that afternoon - my sister and her family didn't get there till almost 9. On the bright side, we boarded the ME bus as soon as we got to the end of Line 8, as did my sister. When we went to WDW in April, we weren't as lucky - we waited on line for almost 30 minutes.

Yeah, mid-afternoon is more of a peak time where they can group the resorts on the bus. Once you get after about 8:30/9 the flights coming in slow down and it's more likely to be a lot more random in terms of resorts so that people aren't waiting forever to leave.

I booked a standard view room for a short October trip via a third party website. The reservation just says “standard view” and doesn’t specify that it’s a Tower Room, so do I assume it isn’t? I have never stayed here before, so don’t really have a preference, but I’m curious. Also, any advice on what building to request?

With just "standard view" I'd expect this to be the specific Standard View, entry-level room in the regular buildings. Disney labels the tower standard view rooms as Tower - Standard View and it's a separate booking type and rate.

Does anyone know of anything going on the end of April? Trying to book Coronado for 4/22/22 - 5/1/22 and all rooms types say unavailable?
could it be a glitch?

Try again today. For a little while yesterday this resort and a few others were showing no availability for any date. Then last night availability was showing again.

Is Cabanas close to food and the dig site pool? Is this a good area to request? Has CSR been granting requests lately and best to call and have request noted on reservation, or send Touring Plans Fax or personal fax?

Yes, all jr suites are located in the casita area. There used to be two in the cabana section but as mentioned, one was lost with the demo of 9b. The remaining one is located in 8b.

Whats the pool situation like currently? I am thinking of adding on just 1 night here (long story) but it would just be for a pool day, no parks. We've stayed here several times before so I'm aware of the layout of the resort but before I booked, I wanted to see if the long waits for the main pool were still happening.
