Disney Reward Shipboard Credit?

Sorry if this is already discussed. I am thinking of going on a cruise in March 2014, and I will be using my Disney Visa to purchase the cruise. I saw that Disney Visa is offering a shipboard credit that is only good for travel this year. I plan to book 2 rooms, so I would have gotten $100 if I were to travel this year. Does Disney Visa offer this on a regular basis?

I doubt I will wait for the next offer from Chase to buy the cruise, since I want to book the least expensive inside staterooms for the trip.

Yes, they usually continue this credit. In the past, the cruise itineraries have been announced long before the Disney Rewards credit has been extended. (Not that this is guaranteed to happen but I think it's a pretty good bet.) You can certainly book now and as long as your deposits are paid with your Disney CC/Debit Card/Reward Card, you can have your TA or DCL add the code to your booking(s) when they announce it for 2014 and get the OBC for your bookings. (This assumes you don't have any other DCL promo code on your bookings.)

I actually got 2 credits...I only booked 1 room. I got a $50 credit for when I booked and I get another $50 if I pay off the balance on my Disney Visa as well...which I plan on doing.

Are you sure you read the offer correctly if both of your credits are from Disney Visa? To get the $50 on board credit from Disney Visa you have to pay your entire balance with your Disney Visa, not just your deposit or remaining balance.

I'm confused b/c we are sailing this October (2013). And apparently the onboard credit is only good for sailings thru Sept 2013. I can't seem to get anyone to answer my question about this. My TA keeps telling me that Disney Isnt allowing them to put in the code. Has anyone seen this before? Will they extend it?

Correct, the current offer is only good for cruises departing through Sept. 28, 2013. I haven't heard that it will be extended, but it might. I think they extended it a year or so ago.

Was this a new credit card? Sometimes they've had offers that give $50 after your first purchase. But that's not directly an onboard credit that you would have on the ship. The current offer requires that you pay the full fare using the Disney Visa, and then $50 will be in your onboard account when you sail - assuming you sail before the end of Sept. this year.

From the Disney Rewards website:
5. Must use your valid Disney's Visa Card to book a Disney Cruise Line® vacation for sailings through 9/28/2013 to receive a $50 onboard credit good towards merchandise, spa treatments, shore excursions and other onboard activities. Call 1-800-257-2024 or your travel agent to book a Disney Cruise Line® vacation and ask for booking code DCC. Offer must be requested at time of booking for new bookings only. The onboard credit is per stateroom for each stateroom paid in full with Disney's Visa Card. Offer is valid for up to two staterooms. Any unused portions are non-refundable and non-transferable. Cannot be combined with any other offers or discounts and is for personal use only. Offer subject to change or cancellation without notice. Ships' Registry: The Bahamas. Chase is not responsible or liable for fulfillment of this offer.

So has this happened before, where there is an expiration date? If so, did they extend it? I guess I'm confused b/c I thought this was one of the perks for being a card holder not a promotion that expires.

Some notes on this...

The DVR $50 OBC is applied as a discount code (3 letters). Note that you can only apply ONE discount code per reservation and hence you cannot combine more than one. This includes offers like FL resident, Military, kids sail free, even on board booking.

The offer CAN be combined with other that do not require a booking code, like on line booking (not available now) or *GT rates.

For the offer to qualify you must any deposit and full balance with:

Disney Visa
Disney Rewards
Disney Gift Cards

I'm not sure if you can pay in full with GCs.

This has been their offer for as long as I can remember. They post it for a year at a time. You or your TA just needs to call DCL before your cruise to have them apply the most recent code to your reservation to get it. Not a problem. It happens every time it expires. :)

Thanks! I hope so! I told my TA this and she keeps telling me that Disney will not accept the code at this time b/c it expires the end of Sept. Hopefully they will come out with a new code?!?!

Thanks for the information. I guess I can put a deposit on it with my Disney Visa and then pay the remainder with the same card later, hoping that there will be a new offer from Chase by then. Question is when is the latest I can pay the balance on the cruise?

Even if you have paid it in full, your TA can call and have the code added to your reservation. They won't necessarily change the code that is used. They will simply move the expiration date out.

So you aren't working with a Disney specialist, eh? She must not book many DCL cruises.

I don't think paying with Disney Gift Cards qualifies as pay't to get the Disney Visa on board credit. If you can pay with gift cards and the Disney Visa to get the on board credit when did this change occur?

Balance must be paid in full at least 75 days before sailing. Although some sailings have a different paid in full date, and concierge cabins also have a different paid in full date. When you make the reservation you will know the date payment is due.

As with any card or membership offering "perks", those available for the Disney Visa card can and do change over time. We've been card holders since Day One. Some perks (such as the DCL onboard credit) are fairly standard, and while it may indicate an expiration date, history shows it is likely to be extended. However there is no guarantee until the new expiration date gets released. Perks such as the zero-financing do not include an expiration date, but that doesn't mean Chase won't ever change the terms of that offer at some point in the future, but it has remained a steady perk - and probably one that more people count on than the $50 OBC.

I definitely got 2 $50 onboard ship credits...I booked through Small World Vacations and my travel agent already confirmed my first $50 credit when I booked with them and then she said I'd get another if I pay off the balance with the same card. It may have been a promotion from this particular travel agency. But I am getting a total of $100 on board ship credits. I confirmed that before I booked.

Why is it some ta's give on biard credit and some don't??

It is not required of them to do so and some do it to entice people to book with them. Obviously a large agency can afford to offer a higher OBC than a small one so the OBC's can vary depending on the agency.
