DIS/Dreams Unlimited China Adventure Oct 14th - 25th 2017 SOLD OUT!!!

Unfortunatly, we won't be able to attend the 20th either. Especially with adding Tokyo. Would love to "see" some of the fun you all have if you meet up.

We are all booked and ready!! Now I can start grabbing some books and reading up on everything.

It just got real folks!! Michael, Cynthia, Brian and I just booked our airfare! We will be meeting up in Chicago to fly out to Tokyo on the 10th getting into Narita airport a little before 4pm on the 11th. We will be flying to Hong Kong on the 14th out of Haneda airport on Cathay Pacific flight 543 in case anyone else wants to fly to Hong Kong as a group. It departs at 10:35 arriving in Hong Kong at 2:10.

What was the cost of the flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong? I hope you don't mind me asking. I am trying to figure out costs for this trip. Thanks. Carol

I booked the 3 legs as one trip - Columbus to Chicago to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Hong Kong, and then Shanghai to Chicago to Columbus. It was $1,148 for the whole trip before insurance. I did look at booking that middle leg separately, and when I did that, the Tokyo to Hong Kong leg priced at $400 but inexplicably, the rest of the trip jumped up to $1400, so it was actually around $700 cheaper to book it all together.

OK!! the air fare is done :yay:. Now the vaccines and the travel money. I thought the euro was bad. This is whole other type of crazy:confused3.

Kevin,

Yes, I will coordinate this. Perhaps, we can all meet at the China Pavillion at EPCOT Center. I don't want to schedule it in conflict with other Megameet activities, so I'll wait until the other podcast team member's meet-ups are announced before setting a time.
I would love to join you Michael if you set this up.

Vaccines??? We need special vaccines?:crazy2:

Here's what the CDC says for China:
https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/china

Kate and I have the Hep A and B vaccine as it's required for working in the health care industry. My son had already been vaccinated against Hep A and B when I took him to China.

There's a "2017 China ABD" thread on the ABD forum that has a few posts on other guests' thoughts about vaccines on pages ~7-9.

Typhoid is probably the only other vaccine one might consider. Staying in the 3 big cities, I think the odds are pretty low. Malaria in October in the big cities I also think would be very low, but I'm certainly no expert.

Many cities have travel medicine specialists. My grocery store pharmacy actually has a traveling travel med physician that takes appointments. While I'm not too concerned about China, I am visiting a travel med physician in regards to an Africa ABD trip for this summer.

OK the flights are set. We are flying United out of Newark on the 10th. Hopefully they won't drag one of us off of the plane. Thanks to Laurie's response to Carol we saved money as well with bundling all of the flights. When I read John's email this morning I delayed getting to work a few minutes so that I could book our flights. I have now forwarded the information to him. I guess this is now a real trip and I better start reading information on the parks. :surfweb: I also added a question about vaccinations in my email to John.

As people are making plane arrangements especially those from Tokyo to Hong Kong I would really appreciate it if you could share the info.

Micki and I are on the Saturday Oct 14th ,10:05 AM Air Japan out of Narita Airport. We booked everything with United.

Ditto to above, there is another United option which is earlier in the morning out of Haneda airport at around 8 am. I opted for a slightly later start. Glad to see that there will be at least 5 of us needing to go to Narita. I know that Laurie and her gang are flying out of Haneda around 10 am on Cathay Pacific booked through American.

I booked our Tokyo flights long before the group add on was confirmed--I went inexpensive from Haneda to Hong Kong using the HK Express early Saturday morning.

Cynthia (belle41379) clued me in to a podcast/FB page/website called TDR Explorer and now that our flights are booked, I've been devouring that. Although they are based in Tokyo and that's their primary focus, there's lots of good information on all of the Asian parks, including a detailed planning guide for each park. Based on that, it sounds like even if a group shuttle isn't possible, transportation to/from both Tokyo airports and the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is readily available and reasonably priced through a service called Airport Limousine (actually a shuttle bus). There are links on TDR Explorer. I'll read it in more detail closer to the trip, but it looks like you don't need a reservation. You just go to their desk when you arrive at the airport and get on the next shuttle. For the shuttle back to the airport, you make a reservation at the bell desk in the Disneyland Hotel - easy-peasy.

Now back to perusing those restaurant descriptions!

Chris - when does your group get into Tokyo on the 11th?

Laurie

We arrive at Narita airport around 1:55pm. It looks like other airlines arrive between 3-4pm so if group transportation is an option we can just hang out until available.

Chris

We've booked our flights with British Airways (not a lot of use to everyone we know) and are flying the Tokyo to Hong Kong route with Vanilla Air (never heard of them before, but read good reviews, so we're hoping we're not strapped to the wings!) leaving Narita airport at 10.45 and arriving at 14.55. Happy to meet up for group transportation.

Questions about researching flights...how are you doing this? Are you using a website such as Skyscanner? Or are you searching specific airlines, and if so, how are you choosing the airlines?

We used skyscanner and Google to identify which airlines flew direct and then went to each airlines website to check the exact price, luggage allowance etc.
When we had narrowed it down we then checked for reviews on the airline as a few of them we had never heard of.

Thanks Ian&Diane and Laurie for the good research tips. I know what I'll be doing this weekend. I have to act fast, though, as I got an alert through FaceBook for a sale on flights to China. But the sale is available just this weekend!
