Earlier today French health minister said that it will be at least 4-6 weeks untill the possibility of government restrictions being lifted. Taking us beyond the planned April 2nd reopening of Disneyland Paris.

Personally I believe we won't see any headway with the park untill mid summer. France is very behind the UK / USA with jab numbers. Plus the French are very vaccine. Reports are saying the EU won't be protected for 16 months.

Currently France is on 6% per 100 people have had one or both injections. With the UK at 38% with theme parks opening currently on April 12th... (Along with self catering). May 17th hotels and accommodation. June remaining businesses including nightclubs.

When do you feel it will open to locals or international travelers?

I think at this point it'll be summer holidays so July, we got a refund on our May trip when the government announced UK reopening dates as knew there was no chance.

This trip that we have planned and moved four times has spent so much stress. We booked Midsummer a super deal at Center parks For something like €700 for five people 4 nights. Our first booking was beginning of September, then October and then we moved it to the first week of the Easter break. Basically the week before Easter. When I found out they were open April 2 I called to move my reservation and I would’ve had to pay almost 1500 on top because that’s the difference between the last week of March and the first week of April. So I said screw that. I took the risk in having center parks canceling on me anyways so we get our money back or I can book a Different Center, Park within the next year. So what I then did is moved our DLP tickets starting April 2 i’m booked a refundable up to 24 hours before Accor hotels for the entire trip. So right now I’m sitting on a center park reservation for the end of March and for Disney trip the first week of April. I hope this is going to further extend the validity Of their yearly tickets until maybe end of this year. We bought a three day pass. I really have no desire to go in the summer I would rather do spring or fall. So basically the next few weeks I’m nervously checking what the situation is because I don’t wanna have a center park reservation that we don’t wanna have anymore. The worst case scenario for us is if they open end of March and we have to go or cancel with no refund or rebook and pay more. Do I make sense?

At this point as an American citizen and my kids being American I’m tempted just to fly to Orlando and have a Disney World vacation like everyone else in the US is doing and waiting to do this in May where I know I’ll be able to get a vaccine. Here in Germany I could probably wait until 2022. So I’m seriously considering this scenario.

To answer the question above, my gut feeling is on a positive note they might open in May or things can continue to go to hell and we’re looking at a summer opening. My only hope at this point is that enough vulnerable are getting the shots where death / hospitalization figures just continue to go down that they can’t justify shut downs purely based on case count. In Germany we’re averaging right now 250 deaths a day. If this gets down to under 50 a day Germans will turn into the French and put on their yellow vests. 50 deaths a day is sad for those affected but for a population of over 80 million this is just a fact of life

My gut feeling is that travel between European countries will be allowed before Americans are allowed into Europe. My gut feeling is that domestic travel in each European country will be allowed before travel between European countries will be allowed. My gut feeling is that Americans will not be allowed into Europe in 2021.

My gut feeling is that you should cancel and get refunds where you can and take your family to Florida.

Well technically here in Germany we are allowed to travel. The only restrictions are testing and quarantine. Right now going to and from France is not verboten. There have been some border restrictions in some hot spots. it changes all the time. But right now there is no universal EU ban on inter country travel. Its a country by country, region by region.

Actually as an American citizen with legal residency in Europe, traveling to the US and back is less a PIA.

My feeling is telling me, that European travel is only allowed when you can prove you've been fully vaccinated (therefor forcing people to get the vaccin, and people like me who might not get the shot until end of the year/next year therefor taking away my freedom even more) or have a negative test (which is costing some people lots of money, which are extra's we can't afford).

The issue here is I can't see with such a young population of park employees that the park will have enough vaccinated staff to run the park.

I think June for locals, Aug for every

That's a good point.
Like in the UK where supermarket staff isn't on any of the earlier lists to get vaccinated, people working amusement parks probably aren't either.

On a side note the French government this week announced they are opening up the country to the UK and a few other countries for essential travel only. As they believe that the UK (Kent) variant (I must add they believe it was from Italy and the EU and others were using it a Brexit thing - we just have been doing more gene sequences than the whole of the EU combined) is now all to common in France and cant stop it.

You were right about no April reopening! No suprise there. I think late summer is more accurate now.

Yea

"Due to prevailing conditions and travel restrictions across Europe, Disneyland Paris will not be able to reopen on April 2 as initially planned. If you have a booking with us, please check our website for our latest commercial conditions: https://t.co/RVTai6Li2D https://t.co/EoANHuxjRN"

I really do think August now. If they can't put a date on it I think we are alot further away than we think. The castle will be don't at least! What do other people think?

So the next question is how are they handling the multiday tickets that are valid for a year.. I believe they extended them a bit, but they need to extend that now!

If you have a Non-Dated Ticket, it will remain valid for when our Parks reopen.

the above is the only thing they have on their website concering non-dated tickets. Its a bit vague right? We bought ours Aug/Sep 2020 and they expire Aug/Sep 2021. How long will they then be valid for when the parks open. If they open in May or June do we only have then 2/3 month to use them?? ugh... they should add on all the months closed to the expiration dates.

I think it would be unlikely that they don't extended them untill November. It would harm the image of the current no worries booking policy that will probably have to continue through to mid 2022.

I think almost legally they would have to have them be valid for a year. Valid in my mind means, I have 365 days a chance to use them. they need to then deduct when it was closed. I will follow-up in the next few weeks to get details. right now I cancelled hotels and am playing russian roulette with my Center Parcs reservation. I can only handle one stress item at a time. .Did anyone thing we would be here right now again?

I could see in January after watching a viral specialist Dr john Campbell on you tube that France was going to get it hard and after us. I believe they are going to be harder hit than we (UK) were in the next 4 weeks. They are probably going to end up 6 months behind the UK if they fail to vaccine people faster and keep this half open system going.

Don't stress out and enjoy your week.

I just got a call from DLP as I had a reservation for April. Got the offer to cancel without fee, full refund (I had only paid a downpayment). Or rebook against the same price for the entire year till March 2022. Christmas period excepted.
The lady on the phone said they were more positive for being open in June than in May.

Updated: From midnight on Friday, residents of 16 departments will only be allowed to leave home under specific circumstances, though the restrictive measures are less strict than the first lockdown last March.

The restrictions will be introduced in Paris and its surrounding Ile-de-France region, as well as in Hauts-de-France and parts of Normandy in the north of the country.

Only essential shops will remain open, inter-regional travel is banned, and anyone travelling more than 10km from home or in the evenings will need to fill out a form explaining the purpose of their trip. Schools will remain open and outdoor activities are permitted.

Can't see Disney opening back up before July / August based on this.

Do you want to go when it first reopens or wait till things are better?

It's what we predicted last month unfortunately, I think your now more on the right track with August. If France is where the UK was in December/January then we are talking 3/4 months from now before things look alot brighter. If the French government get the more vanurable jabbed then it would be alot better but the French have one of the lowest trust rates in the world of vaccines.

Based on the route map the UK have (and I know France like to do things differently) my prediction is:
  • March lockdown
  • April/May crest of wave (still in lockdown)
  • June some restrictions lifted.
  • July theme parks able to open (possibly no hotel accommodation at first)
  • August full travel allowed from outside France and accomodation open.
Again this is just based on what UK has had and videos from Dr john Campbell on you tube.
