We checked into the GF on 12/24 after transferring from BCV. In the afternoon, we went to the marina for a while. When I returned to the rooms, there was a beautiful Christmas tree shimmering in the corner!. We could not imagine who had sent it. Finally, our eldest told me that there must really be a Santa. At that point I knew that he had sent it! It was gorgeous. It brightened all our nights there.:D

We were in Sugar Loaf from 12/24 to 1/1 and had a great time. I'd be glad to answer any questions.

Glad to hear you had a great time, we are headed to Sugar Loaf on 1/24. I've been reading quite a few disheartening reports on the state of the GF rooms and attitudes of the concierge staff. Every one I've dealt with in Pre-Planning has been wonderful. Could you reply on if the rooms were clean and kept up, the staff's attitude, and the sufficiency of the daily snack offerings.

My DH is getting nervous, and I am hoping that things go extremenly well so I can talk him into DVC

Thanks again

deb305...our rooms were immaculate and mousekeeping did a great job. Rosa was our am mousekeeper and she always did our rooms very early. We go to the parks early and return to enjoy the resort after lunch. The rooms were always ready except for her day off. It happens that on that day we were in the rooms later in the morning so that probably affected that, too. The pm mousekeeper we had was Sarah who freshened the towels, emptied the trash as well as turning down the gorgeous beds.

We found the staff to be helpful and friendly...not quite as stiff as a few seemed a year ago. A special thanks to K(C)athy from concierge and Jill from housekeeping who made certain our tree was shipped home after some minor questions about that.

The lounge offerings were as listed on Cali's thread of GF facts. We ate breakfast there most days. The rest of the day the offerings vary but are pleasant for a snack.

The rooms are beautiful. I hope you have a great trip!

Hi BCV23! We were there from 12/20-12/30, room 3521!! We had the mickey wreath on our door.
We too, had a magical stay... the room was immaculate, housekkeeping was terrific, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
We probably saw each other!
Glad you had a wonderful stay. We are definitely staying there next Christmas!!
Deb

deb 305, sorry, I should have replied to you along with bcv23.
I know threr have been alot of negative reports... but we didn't encounter any thing that was bad...one sat. we didn't have our regular hoiusekeeper, and our room wasn't done by 2, but a quick and pleasant call to housekeeping took care of that.
I am sure you will enjoy it as much as we did!! Go, do't worry and have fun!!
Deb

Thank you both for your comments, and my peace of mind. We'll probably find what we look for, if we look for magic, it'll be there!!
Meant to ask, how were the crowds in the parks?

We were in Sago Cay, rooms, 5144 and 5442, from 12.21-1/4. Housekeeping was fine and they always cleaned the room promptly and we didn't notice any problems with the cleanliness of the rooms. There was a problem with the toilets, however, and they were extremely hard to flush. We claled maintenence when we checked in as we thought our toilet was broken. Well, turns out my mom's in the other room was equally as bad. We found out that it was a problem with the top cover lining up with the tank and so the flush button on top didn't always hit the flush button in the tank. Even with this knowledge flushing was always a task and maintenence never came so we couldn't tell them about hte problem. I'm guessing they get a lot of calls about that and so that's why they didn't respond. It really wasn't a huge problem however, and I wouldn't think it would make anyone's stay there unenjoyable, especially since you'll probably only use them in the morning and at night. We also noticed that the ceilings in the hallways of Sago Cay need to be painted as there are long black streaks running down the middle of the ceiling. My guess is that these are from small children riding on top of dad's shoulders who run their hands along the ceiling as they go, since you saw the occasional handprint near these marks and by the room doors. Again, not something I would say took away from my vacation because after all, who really cares about the hallway ceilings in their hotel, unless they're leaking or falling down. They were painting the elevators while we were there so maybe the ceilings will be next anyway. The one aspect that might pose a problem is the noise level from surrounding rooms. We stayed at AKL for 4 nights (12/27-12/31) before switching to the GF and not once did we hear a sound from our neighbors while we were in our room. The first morning at GF, however, we slept in since it was 1/1 and we had been up early and out late since our arrival on 12/27, especially NYE. Around 7am we heard our neighbors wake up and get ready for an early day. Our last night, my mother encountered a crazy neighbor next to her room who pounded on her wall screaming about the noise level coming from her room. This was around 11pm and the only noise she had was the tv on as she was packing for our departure the next day. She's only 50 and can hear perfectly fine so her tv was not unreasonably loud by any means. The man screaming through the wall claimed his kids couldn't sleep from the noise of her tv. If this was the case, then the walls are simply too thin. We may not have noticed this problem had we not stayed at AKL and had noise free nights. Once again though, this did not make our stay bad or deter us from staying there again, just something that might make us consider requesting a corner room next time.

Hi BCV23,

that is great that you had a Christmas tree! I had one delivered to our room at the YC concierge when we stayed there over Thanksgiving :) arent they beautiful!
It was a surprise for my husband, we kept it lit every night, and I even moved it to the doors of the balcony every evening while we were out! so passers by on the boardwalk could see it!

Laura :)

Hi dwdeb...we were in 6311 & 6313. Was your wreath on the outside or inside of the building? I imagine we must have seen each other.:D I did see one darling Mickey wreath but can't remember where? Maybe yours! We put lights on our balconies but lit them only a couple of nights. We were a little afraid that it might spoil the "Grand" look of the resort:D . A wreath is a great idea!

Julesmom...thank you. He is a very sweet and considerate son.

deb305...the parks were packed!

Oops, forgot. Princess Angel, the tree is lovely isn't it. I imagine people in the building across the marina from Sugar Loaf may have been able to see ours but as we were on the third floor, no one on the ground could see it I imagine. It just arrived home in two boxes a couple of days ago. I was ready to put it up but have been convinced to let it stay boxed until next year:rolleyes: !

Welcome back! I'm glad to see you had a memorable stay at the GF. :) What a wonderful surprise!
