Cass, Rob & Kira - UO & Disney Fantasy - Two Old Farts and a Teenager

Cass, thanks for the recommendation on the fan. :thanks:

Mine arrived today! I love it, with the 3 settings, it is powerful for being so small. And, it has good white noise. Besides, we can always use fans down here in South Florida. One hurricane season we were without power for 10 days and it was hot! :scared:

Will be back tomorrow to read more but I am on dinner duty tonight (we rotate nights) and I wanted to make my comments while I still remember them.

What's up with the purple suitcase??? It is not Disney. At least put a Mickey on it. :rotfl2:
Rob caught the whole adorable visit on video, if you want to check it out...
That was so COOL! I sent it to my Rob and he commented on how much Kira reminds him of our Sarah when she was Kira's age. Put the room service guy was so cute!
Kira and I made it through quickly but Rob was stopped.
That always happens to us with Rob's carry-on. It is loaded with photography equipment so they always have to dig through it. Me, who is carry all the booze, flies through. Rob with his equipment..... Although, in Oct. 2021, on the Dream, they confiscated my flat iron (for hair). I eventually got it back but for the first few days, my hair was so fuzzy.
Then I asked Rob to grab one of just Kira and I and while he was walking over to take the pic, Kira just looked at me, flashed me a big grin and gave me this great big hug.

Not sure what it was for but as a mother, you don't question these things, you just accept all of the hugs you get ::yes::
Absolutely, treasure the hugs, they decrease as the child ages. 😢
a guy across from us looked at Kira and said "You're Kira!"
We have been taking Sarah to psych/anthro/econ/adoption... conferences since she was 4 weeks old and occasionally, that happens to us. Kind of freaky until we realize it is someone from the conference FB group who has seen our family photos.

I've said this before over the years, the thing I love about you the most, is your complete honesty. When you don't like something, thats what we get. And that makes you SO relatable, you don't put pixie dust on everything and I adore you for that. So that picture of Rob at the pool, omg that is so my husband. He loves the pool with me, but most likely not at night like that. But, we've been married for 36 yrs this year, and we do everything together still, he would be sitting right there with me poolside. Loved that. And that bunk, aw sorry that didn't work out, I was thinking it would be great access for you guys to the verandah door in the mornings while she sleeps, oh well. I hope that worked out. I'm sorry she didn't like the Vibe! I'm right there with her, I hate clicky groups that make you feel like you don't belong. She has you guys, the best friends is all she needs.

March 27th, Part 1

Around 6:20 am, we were all awoken by repetitive loud thuds coming from above our room. :scared:

I'm a light sleeper and I wake up two or three times a night but Kira and Rob are heavy sleepers and even they were up. Not exactly the way I had envisioned my birthday starting. :(

292.jpg

I tuned into the Good Morning show...

293.jpg

We got ready for the day and then had a little family chat. Should we try to get another room? Ugh, we would have to pack up, move, unpack again, sanitize the other room, take down all of the lights and decorations and then put them up again. 😬

As we were chatting, the noise above got louder and we decided that we would go try and get another room if there's one left. Before heading down, Rob and I went up to have a peek at the gym. It seems like we were directly below the treadmills and the gym opened at 6am every day. 😟

294.jpg

Rob headed down to Guest Services while I went back to the room to let Kira know what was going on. We were going to see if there was another room we could move to and then grab some breakfast at Enchanted Garden.

Hey, when you're not standing in the middle, these elevator doors make you look taller and thinner! :lmao:

295.jpg

Rob stood in line at GS while I chatted with the DVC CM. Super nice guy, he told me we had 2420 passengers on this sailing. I also found out that the DVC CM's don't have extended contracts like the other CM's, they only work one sailing and then back home to Florida. They get to choose which sailings they do.

Once Rob spoke to a CM, I joined him and they were able to find us a new room. The lovely CM asked if we wanted to go have a look at it first but I didn't really care, as long as it wasn't under or next to something super noisy. She changed my room key, gave me a birthday button, as well as two celebration buttons for Rob and Kira and then we headed off for some breakfast.

Once we got seated at a glorious, quiet table in the corner, I texted Kira that we would be moving to a new room and asked her if she could start taking some of the decorations down.

296.jpg

297.jpg

Rob was looking forward to his 12-course breakfast.

298.jpg

He even got his precious chocolate croissants! He devoured five of them that morning. :rotfl2:

299.jpg

300.jpg

302.jpg

This was mine, minus the toast, which I ate every day. I know, I'm boring but I know what I like and I like what I know.

301.jpg

We hatched our plan while we ate. I would head to the new room, take photos and video while no one was around and Rob would head to our old room and grab the spray and wipes and go clean the new room while Kira and I packed up our stuff and then he would come back and help us move our stuff over. They said they would move our stuff for us, we just had to give them a call but honestly, once we were all packed up and ready to go, it was just easier and faster for us to do it all. It took us two trips but it all worked out.

Here's our new digs, room 7094, a Deluxe Family Stateroom with Verandah. It was bigger than our old room but there were things we didn't like about this design that you don't really think about until you are in it, unpacking and organizing and living in that space. Things like the closet is way smaller, no shelves or drawers over by the closet and the toilet bathroom is smaller. Rob hit his head on the wall a few times and I hit my knee several times. The area in front of the desk was way bigger, Kira and I were dancing/twirling over there together and still had space :p

303.jpg

304.jpg

305.jpg

306.jpg

The first closet was set up differently and the second one was quite small compared to the regular verandah rooms.

307.jpg

308.jpg

We were pretty close to midship elevators, and on the opposite side of the ship, which took Rob and Kira a few days to get used to. Good thing one of us has a great sense of direction. :rolleyes1

309.jpg

310.jpg

311.jpg

Back to the room where were worked as a team to get it all done. :thumbsup2

312.jpg

A little over 90 minutes later, we were settled in our new room. :flower:

313.jpg

314.jpg

315.jpg

It took some rearranging because that storage area next to the closet was missing and we had to rethink how we were using the space but in the end, we had plenty of room for our stuff and we were thankful we didn't have to spend the rest of the cruise under treadmills! On our way out of the old room, I ran into our neighbours two doors down and we ended up talking about the treadmills over our heads. They were an older couple, not the type to complain it seemed but when I mentioned the treadmills, he paused and said "Oh, is that what that sound was this morning?" 😏

I don't understand why they are even putting passengers in those rooms during this reduced capacity phase anyway? This ship is ten years old, I'm sure they get the same complaints over and over. I did notice that, out of the six rooms more forward than ours, only two of them seemed occupied. Those empty rooms would be directly under the weights area of the gym.

Some of my door decorations were losing their magnets so I didn't put them up on the new door. I have since purchased some heavy duty magnets that should work better.

316.jpg

Once we got settled in, I sorted laundry, Rob started laundry and Kira and I got some chicken strips for her and I showered because I had gotten all sweaty from the move. The shower was very clogged up and didn't drain very well. I was standing in two-inch deep water the entire time. Also, our toilet had the longest flush in toilet history. :rotfl2:

Knowing I use the bathroom a few times each night, Rob said "Yeah, that's gonna wake me up." :rotfl:

We made sure we mentioned both issues to our new stateroom host, Alain, when we saw him. Both were fixed by the time we went to bed that night.

318.jpg

317.jpg

We got a good view of Havana as we passed.

319.jpg

320.jpg

Rob had a lot of issues with the washers and dryers and ended up putting all of our clothes on double cycles. While he was dealing with that, I was totally knackered and needed a nap 😴

321.jpg

When I woke up, we all headed to D Lounge to do the Marvel Face Off. We thought it was trivia but it was more of a gameshow and only a handful of people actually participated.

322.jpg

The pool was super busy with long lines. 😯

323.jpg

Rob grabbed some strips and a piece of pizza.

324.jpg

And then spent some well-earned reading time on our new verandah.

325.jpg

Ugh, waking up early and having to move rooms as well on your birthday are not fabulous BUT you got a new room (with some interesting quirks it would seem lol) and you settled in (and got a nice nap, yay!). Now let's see how the rest of the day pans out on your big birthday ;-)

First, I want to say :bday:

Oh man... I can totally relate to hearing about your room under the gym. It happened to us years ago, on a Princess Cruise Line ship . Never, ever, ever, will I book a room under the gym!! You think, it can't be that bad. Yes it is. From the time the gym opens until it closes. Every. Day.
And, we were stuck with it for the entire voyage. Horrible! >:(

Not to change the subject, but I have been meaning to ask about pin trading. Is it a thing of the past on the ships now? :confused3

The chicken strips on this trip were so delicious!! WAY better than the crap ones we had on the Wonder in December, those were gross :crazy2:
The classics used to be our favorites but since Covid.... We sailed the Dream Oct 2021, awesome experience. Then, we sailed the Wonder in March and had so many issues! Subpar food, chicken strips, yuk, pizza that tasted like cardboard with sauce on it. Why oh why did they change the crust, it used to be so good . ... And even bigger issues: Our balcony being doused by buckets of water in the morning (we were below Cabanas), a 2x3 tiled participation falling off the wall in the bathroom (luckily no one was sitting on the toilet or there would have been bodily damage). Anyway, at least we were sailing but it certainly was not a magical cruise by what we are used to experiencing when cruising Disney. I hope your new room ended up being quieter. It would not have been enjoyable being awaken each morning at six while on vacation.

ugh changing room sounded like a lot of trouble (and what a way to start your birthday) but I would have done the same, worth it for the rest of the trip!

Happy Birthday! Sorry it had to be partially spent changing rooms. We have stayed in Family Verandas before and never had that short half closet? Weird. My hubs loves the round tub shower cause then the curtain doesn't grab your a$$ (his words, not mine). I have found a new room on the Dream class ships that is ideal and I always make sure to get one of those because no noise, and kids can't go running past. LOL

Love to see Rob reading on the veranda. My husband won't read anything but car manuals! I read all the time, so I thought maybe guys just didn't read anymore? :)

Loving your report and pics so far

Lisa

Happy Birthday! We sail in May and will also arrive from Canada a couple of days early. I’m so nervous about visiting Universal because of the port testing. So glad you could move rooms. Looking at Rob on the verandah makes me so excited for our cruise. I absolutely love sitting out every morning.

March 27th, Part 2

After some rest time, it was time to open my birthday cards. I told them not to get me any gifts. I'm not a big gift person, I already have everything I need plus this trip was the best gift in the world! I'm not big on cards either. I told Rob many moons ago to stop buying me cards but he refuses. :rolleyes2 Kira, on the other hand, makes me a card for every occasion and I love it! :lovestruc

326.jpg

327.jpg

328.jpg

Once that was done, Kira and I headed up to Flo's in search of some cookies! We were both shocked to find none! What in tarnation is going on here??? They didn't have chocolate chip cookies at Flo's the entire cruise. :confused3

Well, back to the room, guess we will just order some. This way we can get them warmed up. :goodvibes

329.jpg

It was now time for dinner at Animator's Palate! It was formal night but we don't really dress up fancy anymore. If Rob brings his suit, it takes up so much space in the suitcase, just for one meal, it's not worth it to us. My kiddo looked beautiful though. 💖

330.jpg

Quick pic at the elevator. I love how her Eeyore bag matched her outfit. :eeyore:

331.jpg

We made our way to table 52. Let the hijinks begin. :p

332.jpg

There's Ronny and Dean in action. Love their shirts!

333.jpg

Rob asked Dean if he could get a pic of him without his mask, he kindly obliged. We just wanted a photo of him but I think Rob gestured for him to move over, so he came over next to me. Rob doesn't remember doing the gesture thing, but I saw him do it. :rotfl:

334.jpg

Tonight was the Crush show, which we always love. It makes for weird lighting though. You can see Fabiano behind Kira here:

335.jpg

And our food porn for this evening....

345.jpg

Just after our desserts were delivered, the whole gang showed up with a birthday dessert and while they didn't sing, Tony did tell me to make a wish and blow out my candle. The candle wasn't lit, but I played along.

You can tell that I really love all of the attention. :rolleyes1:lmao:

343.jpg

This cake was surprisingly good actually! We all took a little bite each as we were very full from our delicious dinner.

Next up was Aladdin. It had been five years since we had seen it so we decided to watch it together. It was the one place on the ship that masks were required. That rule has now changed and they are only suggested, not required.

I was born at 9:31pm EST. Since our clock went back the previous night, it was now 8:31pm ship time, 9:31pm EST, so Kira took a photo of us together at the exact moment I had been born, 50 years ago.

346.jpg

Our cruise director...

347.jpg

The finale of Aladdin. It was good, we all enjoyed it. ::yes::

348.jpg

Back in our room, we found Remy. 🐀

349.jpg

Sadly, no pool time tonight since it closes at 10pm. We were all exhausted though, I think we just passed out after the show. :faint:

It was the best birthday a girl could ever ask for. Not sure how I'm ever going to top this one. :goodvibes

I agree, quiet cove is MUCH better on the classic ships. Looking forward to (one day) trying out the Wish and the adult areas.
Fantastic idea bringing the lights again since you were not able to hang them in December!!! So gorgeous. And the birthday decorations....so thoughtful AND sneaky!! haha love it!!!!

So I had the right ages in my head for Vibe vs Edge, it was the wrong age for Kira I had in my head, I thought she was still 14, oops! My bad! That's a shame that she didn't really enjoy Vibe much this cruise :(

Yes, one day I will try the Wish too! I do love their location of the QC but not sure about that pool yet. I will wait until I'm in it to judge it but looks rather small from what I've seen. :scared:

Yeah, 15 already, geez! Time sure flies eh?

Cass, thanks for the recommendation on the fan. :thanks:

Mine arrived today! I love it, with the 3 settings, it is powerful for being so small. And, it has good white noise. Besides, we can always use fans down here in South Florida. One hurricane season we were without power for 10 days and it was hot! :scared:

Oooh, you got one! It's a great little fan! Did you get the newer version?

Will be back tomorrow to read more but I am on dinner duty tonight (we rotate nights) and I wanted to make my comments while I still remember them.

What's up with the purple suitcase??? It is not Disney. At least put a Mickey on it. :rotfl2:

That was so COOL! I sent it to my Rob and he commented on how much Kira reminds him of our Sarah when she was Kira's age. Put the room service guy was so cute!

Absolutely, treasure the hugs, they decrease as the child ages. 😢

We have been taking Sarah to psych/anthro/econ/adoption... conferences since she was 4 weeks old and occasionally, that happens to us. Kind of freaky until we realize it is someone from the conference FB group who has seen our family photos.

I'm glad you made it. :goodvibes

I know, right? I have another carry-on that has a subtle Mickey on it but it doesn't have the outside pocket, which I need but it is PURPLE, and anything purple is okay in my book. :p

Yes, Rob always gets stopped in Canada with his electronics. He usually whizzes through the Pre-check lines in the US though!

I treasure them all! ❤️

Hahaahaha that's too funny about taking Sarah and getting recognized. My first reaction is always WTH!!!? :rotfl2:

I've said this before over the years, the thing I love about you the most, is your complete honesty. When you don't like something, thats what we get. I tell it like it is, baby! :teeth:

We had great access to the verandah when she was in the bed the rest of the cruise, the only time it's blocked is with that Murphy bed down but we didn't even use it.

Yeah, remembering back to being a teen, I probably wouldn't go to the Vibe either! We always have fun together so it all worked out as it should. :goodvibes

Ugh!! Sorry to hear that!!! That's exactly what we were thinking, it's going to be noisy all day long from 6am until 10pm :(

We didn't see any pin trading on the ship but I'm pretty sure I saw TimTracker do it on their first cruise post-covid? Sorry, we aren't pin traders so we never checked.

The classics used to be our favorites but since Covid.... We sailed the Dream Oct 2021, awesome experience. Then, we sailed the Wonder in March and had so many issues! Crap, sorry to hear about your issues on the Wonder  That doesn't sound like a fun cruise! :sad2: She definitely needs some TLC but for us, we just prefer the classics.

ugh changing room sounded like a lot of trouble (and what a way to start your birthday) but I would have done the same, worth it for the rest of the trip!

Was it though? :rolleyes1

Thanks! :goodvibes

I checked on YT and all I could find were the exact same rooms, with the tiny closet. I stayed in one before but hadn't noticed the closet back then but I did check my photos and yup, small closet with no storage chest next to it.

Ooooh, which room is it?? All the way front?

Car manuals! :rotfl2: Rob doesn't get much time to read at home so he makes up for it on vacation. ::yes:: I brought a book too but never touched it. :rotfl2:

Thank you! :goodvibes

We were nervous about that too! We wore masks, sanitized and washed our hands a LOT and didn't touch anything unless we absolutely had to. :thumbsup2 You'll be fine, just take precautions! I've been to WDW, Universal twice, and been on four cruises since November 2021 and I haven't gotten covid yet. 🤞 🤞 🤞

What a lovely way to end your birthday!!! Minus the pool being closed by the time you got out ;-) You look thrilled in that video bwahahaha

Hmmm. I just checked through my photos and wouldn't you know I don't have pics of the closets! It very well could have been a short closet, but I don't remember. It was waaaay back in 2020 pre-covid. :rotfl2: We were in 9120 then. We did 9620 in 2019 and I don't remember it being short because we had three adults in the room and you would think I would remember if we didn't have enough closet space, but honestly I don't trust my memory (welcome to the over 50 crowd by the way). All that to say, you are right and I just can't remember. :)

Now, if I say the room numbers, everyone will want them! ;) but, no, they aren't up front, they are more aft. Picture the bump out of the hallway. It doesn't stop the little dears from running the hallway up to it, but it slows them down right in front of the room. Plus you have good views at CC and most ports.

BTW, what is YT? Again, I am having a (you know what) moment here, can't figure out what that is. LOL

Lisa

Don't get me started on the pool hours. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

Hahahah, yes, thrilled to be the center of attention, as always

Yes, I got the newer one. It is perfect! :thumbsup2

Oh good! I might buy that one soon! :goodvibes

I'm wondering if the non-connecting ones have a larger closet? :scratchin There's not many of those!

Hmm, so either all the way aft or down those little sideways corridors?:cool:

YT = YouTube ;) :lmao:

Oh thank goodnesss...I've been waiting for an update all weekend!!

Hahaha, sorry, I actually had plans! A concert AND a movie! They wiped me right out. :faint:I don't get out much.:lmao:

That Remy is so dang cute! I have never seen one of those!
Me neither! It was very cute! ::yes::
