Cape May or 'Ohana with 4-year-old?

Trying to decide between these two restaurants for dinner. We will have our 4-year-old boy with us, and want to make it fun for him. Birnbaum says that Cape May is one of the top WDW restaurants for children, but I understand the 'Ohana dinner has plenty of antics to amuse kids. If you had to choose, which one would it be, and why?

Oh, a toughie! Both restaurants have delicious food, but if you are talking about dinner, I think 'Ohana will be more fun for your son. They have coconut races, where the kids use small brooms to roll coconuts all over the restaurant. And they give the kids candy. They also sing songs, and have hula hoop contests for older kids that are fun to watch.

Cape May has a better kid's food selection, though, and is a better value. We love both places - I'm no help, am I?!?!?!

I think both would be great, but I'd lean more toward Ohana. Like Harambe said, they tend to do more in the way of entertainment for kids than Cape May. The food at both is great and plentiful.

If you want to try both, consider this option: Ohana for dinner one day and Cape May for BREAKFAST another day. Cape May's breakfast buffet is a character meal with Beachy Goofy, Chip n' Dale and Minnie at the entrance. This way you'd get the best of BOTH!

We went to both restaurants with our 5 year old son. He liked the games & watching the fireworks at 'Ohana, but wouldn't try any of the foods (we were able to get him a hot dog from Kona Cafe with not a bat of the eye from the server- in fact he suggested it!). At Cape May, however, he made a little piggy of himself- loved the food! And the desserts! Plus we walked on the beach before dinner and he thought that was awesome. I give my vote to Cape May Cafe for dinner- I think you will have a happier child if he is at all picky about food.

We have never been to Cape May. However, we did take our 4 year old son to 'Ohana's. Although it was a bit pricey for what he acutally ate, we had a geat time and would do it again. My son is very shy, and has not had much interation with groups of kids. But wanted to participate in the coconut race--meaning my DH had to do it, with my son walking along with him. But, he was excited about the gummy worms at the end. He tried the hula hoop, but gave up the first time he let go and dropped it. Also, our "cousin" was great. She would talk to our son whenever she came around. Then she told him to eat 5 more bites, and she would give him a surprise. She gave him this little "blowgun" device. It was really just a couple of the little umbrellas they put in drinks, and a straw, but he thought it was a big deal.

At Cape May there is a special buffet section with kid's offerings: chicken nuggets, macaroni & cheese, etc.

At 'Ohana you can order from the Kona Cafe kids menu, and only pay the kids menu price (generally $5 instead of $10). This is not advertised but just ask your server. (If they don't cooperate, ask for a different server!)

'Ohana as mentioned also has games for children. Plus the advantage that you don't have to continually escort your child/children to the buffet as at Cape May. Both are great places for a 4 yo, but unless there's an adult in your party who insists on the seafood at Cape May, I'd recommend 'Ohana.

We went to O'Hana's with 6 kids ages 7 and under. They seated us 45 minutes past our PS time (we had PS for 7:00 pm) and they seated us in the back. We couldn't see or hear a thing. The kids also didn't like the food. We were never offered a children's menu. I wouldn't go back. There was also a problem with undercooked food - the beef was too rare for me and the shrimp was dangerously undercooked. It was not a pleasant experience. We also found out that they don't seat people during the fireworks - which for us was 7:00 to 7:15. At 7:15, they were still trying to get 6:30 PS people in. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with O'Hana's. We've been there several times and the food has always been good and we've always been lucky with seating (always had some sort of castle view). I do recommend making an earlier PS though.

We have had some issues with service. Most times the service has been very good but on occasion we've gotten a server or 2 that was tough to find when we needed something.

I didn't know about the kid's offerings until we went for the first time and asked if there was anything else for the kids. Since Kona is right down the hall I figured their kid's menu foods would be available (or I would have gone down there myself and placed a kid's take out order )

I'd recommend O'Hana's since it keeps the kids busy, although my dd won't get up and do the activities, she does enjoy watching and listening.
