***current information for Between the BLs Summer Challenge starting May 28, 2010***

Read this post for important information and to join follow the bolded instructions.

An updated participant list will be posted on this thread and updated periodically.

The coaching schedule and links to the COW (challenge of the week) will also be posted on the thread.

Welcome to the Between the BLs (Biggest Loser) Summer Challenge 2010 our time to be healthy again!!!

We've been working hard but many of us still have a ways to go. If you keep doing what you are now doing the number on the scale may not be much different at the end of the summer than what it is now. But what could that scale say if you tried something different this summer?

You can make the plan. You can make the changes. You can work to achieve your weight loss goals. And you can be part of a great group to help and support you!

Welcome to the WISH Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010

It is NEVER too late to join the WISH Between the BLs Summer Challenge
2010. To join the challenge post on the thread or PM me and tell me which team you will be on -- loser or maintainer. Also PM your initial weight to Shannon (LuvBaloo), the weight keeper on May 28th. Report your weight in pounds ie xxx or xxx.x.

Our WISH Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010 will run for thirteen weeks from Friday May 28, 2010 until Friday August 27, 2010. First weigh in will be June 4, 2010 and weigh ins will be on Friday each week after. Each week starting June 7, our weekly Biggest Losers will be recognized. Our final results will be posted the week after August 28th.

As usual, you do not have to watch the TV show to be a part of our challenge – you don’t even have to watch the re-runs!

No one is ever voted off our challenge. After three weeks of not reporting your weight to the weight keeper you are removed from the challenge but if you decide to rejoin you are welcomed with open arms.

The purpose of the WISH Betwwen the BLs Summer Challenge 2010 is to help you on your weight loss journey and keep us all on track this summer between the seasons of the Biggest Loser shows. The challenge forces you to be accountable. Each week you will report your weight to the weight keeper (LuvBaloo). She is the only person that will know your weight. Your weight will never be published for anyone to see.

Our Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010 has a maintainer component again this time -- a separate team for maintainers. If you are a maintainer -- your hard work paid off -- you will part of the maintainers team. Maintainers still report their weight but are scored by whether you stayed within 2 pounds of your maintained weight number. If you stayed on track, you make the list of maintainers for the week and you still receive the benefit of all the support, accountability and encouragement a BL challenge provides. You can move between loser and maintainer status -- it's your choice.

On our Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010 we encourage and support each other. We celebrate those small victories and offer advice to help each other meet the weight loss challenges we face. We get to know each other. We laugh together and we cry together. WISH Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010 can be your weight loss support system.

You will get out of this challenge what you put into it. If you get serious and use this program it CAN and WILL help you lose weight. As you make choices during the day consider what your fellow losers would do. They would say no to the doughnut at the office but they would find time to get some exercise even if they are tired after a long day. Losing weight is not a 'quick fix'. It takes time, commitment, and lots of hard work. Our Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010 is here to help you..

Our WISH Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010 will be a little different from our previous challenges.

* There will be two groups losers and maintainers this time.
* There will one mega-thread for the entire challenge. (Don't be afraid of the big thread -- it is a little intense the first couple of weeks but then gets better and was the format that received the most votes in the planning thread!)
* We will not have team captains but will have a different 'coach' each week. They will serve as hostess on the Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010 thread, post questions of the day, acknowledge posters, post mini-challenges and offer encouragement. Some coaches may serve for a second week later in the challenge.
* LuvBaloo will serve again as the weight keeper. Thank you, LuvBaloo, for doing this again!
* jenanderson will be our COW (Challenge of the Week) coach. Weekly challenges will encourage us to develop healthy habits for our bodies and souls. Thank you, jenanderson, for being our new COW keeper! For summer it will be a summer version of the COW with one challenge for the week.
* There is also a goal component of the challenge. You can set a goal, i.e. lose 20 pounds, and LuvBaloo will keep track of how close you are to your goal each week. To see an example of the goals results post click here. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36437607&postcount=995

We will laugh together, we will cry together and a few of us will finish the challenge together, hopefully weighing less than when we started.

Here is our clippie for the summer challenge

TheBLSummerchallenge2010.jpg

We are recycling last years clippie and the date has been changed. A big thank you to corinnak for designing our clippie for us! This is the current clippie so you can use it when you are ready!

To put the clippie in your signature, do the following:
1. Right click on the clippie above. Then click on Properties at the bottom of the list. You will see something that looks like this behind address http://i16.photobucket.com /albums/ b16/ lisah0711/ TheBLSummerchallenge2010.jpg I've bolded it here and put in some extra spaces so it will show in the post. Copy that phrase -- don't bold it or have the spaces. (To copy highlight the phrase and do CTRL (control key) C)
2. Click on User CP in the upper left hand corner of the screen -- it's in the blue bar
3. Click on Edit Signature in Settings & Options on the left
4. Paste the phrase you copied. Add
to the end.
5. Save your signature.

Don't worry if it takes a couple of tries and let us know if you have any problems. If someone has an easier way to explain how to do this please let me know.

Let's review the three components of our WISH Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010.

The weight report
* Your weight report is due each Friday.
* You PM your report to LuvBaloo.
* Report your weigh in pounds ie xxx or xxx.x.
* Carefully review your weight before you send your message to Shannon. PLEASE make sure the weight is typed correctly. Is that 166 or 156? Are you at 174 or 177? Misspelling is forgivable, typos happen, let's just make sure they don't happen with those numbers in your weight.
* Weight reports are required to remain in the challenge. After three weeks of no reports you are dropped from the challenge. After being dropped from the challenge you may return by reporting your current weight. We will welcome you back any time you want to rejoin if your drop out for a few weeks.
* You can chatter on our thread even if you don't do the weigh ins
.

The COW
* jenanderson will post the challenge of the week on our BL thread.
* Not every week will involve a challenge.
* Participation in the weekly challenge is optional. You can pick and choose what part of the challenge that you want to do.
* Each challenge will clearly state a beginning date, ending date
* Each challenge will include tasks to perform and point values awarded for accomplishing the tasks.
* It is helpful to print the challenge tasks to refer to throughout the week

WISH Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010
* One mega-thread will run for the entire challenge.
* Participation on the thread is optional.
* Each week a new 'coach' will serve as hostess on our WISH Between the BLs Summer Challenge 2010. Their duties include posting questions of the day, acknowledging posters, posting mini-challenges and offering encouragement. Some coaches may serve for a second week later in the challenge. If you are interested in serving as a coach please PM or email me. We strive to have a different coach each week so that means lots of volunteers!

So that's the scoop losers and maintainers. To join our challenge follow the instructions given above. If you have any questions PM me.

Good luck and have a healthy day!

Love getting to Part 2 of a BL Challenge!

Skipping weigh in for this week since I totally fell off the wagon today. I will be starting my workouts full force again tomorrow so I will start fresh next week. Just got home from work and fixed myself a drink and having some chips with DH. PMS has hit me like Maleficent's Dragon!

Happy to say client loved the massage and booked one for the next 3 weeks!!!! That means I have 2 a week already scheduled for the next 3 weeks!!! I guess I'm doing celebration eating!!!! Things are finally picking up and just hoping it stays this way! I love my job and making people feel refreshed and relaxed!

Watching preseason Patriots football! I love the fall!!!!

Enjoy your night!!!!! I promise to get back to questions and the COW next week too! Just not with it this week fully! I'll be up at 5 tomorrow to work off my chips and drink!!!!!

Found the new thread.

Thanks pjlla for coaching this week! You had some great QOTDs! :thumbsup2

Rose, thanks for coaching starting tomorrow! :)

Sending :goodvibes for great weigh-ins tomorrow!

CC

new thread and one week to go. woohoo!

i'm sitting here smelling the strawberry lemonade muffins I'm baking for work tomorrow. haven't had a single bite, though. yet. ;)

I've had a bad couple days (that time of month) binging and gained several pounds. Been a saint today hoping at least some of the water weight will come off and I won't be too embarrassed for tomorrow's weigh-in.

Howdy folks! Just wanted to check in on the new thread.

Wishing everyone happy weigh-ins tomorrow. :flower3:

Good Morning!

I'm about to weigh-in and then exercise.

I have been told that we are going out for lunch today, but that is it. I like to know where in advance.

Connie-Could you post what you are thinking about taking measurements on our new thread? I love the idea. I definitely need to do that. I'm going to put this out there, though. I've never done this before. Guidance, please?!?!?!

Have a great day everyone! :goodvibes

CC

ETA: I am down 1.3 for the week!

Good morning everyone!! Hope you all have a happy visit to the scale this morning. I am down .2.:rotfl: down is down, right? I'm right at 210.0, and down 3.4 for the challenge. I will do my final challenge weighin next wed before we head back to maine, and my goal is to maintain this weekend while we're camping. I didn't bake my usual choc chip cookies to bring because my friend and I are the ones who eat most of them anyway. The kids won't even miss them.

Pamela- Thank you for coaching this week. You did have some really fun and interesting questions. We are headed to OOB this weekend for our annual trip. It's so fun there. Thise will be the 5th year we've been there. So fun for michael and my friends 3 kids to have traditions. We're in tents this weekend, then next wed-sun it's a cabin on Sebago lake in maine. THanks for the pointage on the smores. I am like you, and always very slowly toast my marshmallow for the perfect smore. I love them, and the marshmallow has to be perfectly toasted and melted throughout.

I would split my 10,000 dollars between the American Diabetes Association, our local Hospice, and the Mito.org. My son's friend has mitocondrial disease, and though he's doing well right now, it's can affect any cells of the body at anytime. He has a lot of gi issues and trouble with temperature regulation. Not a fun summer for him. His mom is amazing. She is a marathon runner, and 2 years ago at 35 went for her first mammogram and had cancer and had a bilat mastectomy. A lot on her plate, but she is so inspiring to me.

CC- congrats on your loss this week!! Nice job taking control of the binging. You are doing awesome!!

Rose+mike- Thank you for coaching this week. I'll be checking in mon or tues. I tried the 4/1 run/walk intervals the past 2 runs after listening to how well you did on them, and I really like them. I had been doing irreg length intervals, run5-10, walk 2-3, but towards the end of the run, my walks got longer and run's shorter, so this way I kept up the regular running til the end. It's probably recommended for that reason, but I just figured it out.:rotfl:

Gotta go make lunches now!! Yay, the last lunch for day camp!!!!

Thanks for the vacation wishes.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!

Welcome to the Challenge of the Week – COW 13

Please know that you do not have to participate but the COW is here to help you build good habits and have fun as you focus on your health and fitness for the challenge.

It is summertime and that means it might be time to mix it up a bit with our Challenge of the Week (COW)! Here is how our new COW will work.

PART ONE:
The first part of the COW will be based off the wonderful work of Donac who taught me that if I do something for 30 days, it will become a habit. Each week I will post two to four habit suggestions for you and at the end of the week, you report your points to me.

NEW and EXCITING:
If you report your points, you will be eligible for wonderful prizes! I will randomly select one person each week to win a fabulous prize (maybe not fabulous but it will at least be a bit fun)!

PART TWO: The second part of the COW will be a fun task for you to complete during the week and then post about your experience here on our thread. Again, there will be FUN and FABULOUS prizes (for one randomly selected poster each week).

COW 13

PART ONE

Drink 6-8 oz of water each day (1 point for each day) ( 1 cup of coffee or tea counts)
Eat 3 servings of fruits & vegetables each day (1 point for each day)
Exercise 25 minutes each day (1 point for each day)
Compliment yourself 1 time each day - this can be something you just think to yourself, your write down someplace, you share here, etc. (1 point for each day)

When you send me your points please post your total in your RE and then in the main part of the pm list your points as follows:

XX days drinking water
XX eating 2 veggies
XX days of exercising for 20 minutes
XX days of compliments

This challenge runs from Friday, August 20, 2010 to Thursday August 26, 2010. On Friday August 27, 2010 PM me your points for the week. The COW results will be posted the same day the weekly totals are posted.

PART TWO

As we come to the end of this challenge, reflect on how you feel that you did in creating a healthier lifestyle.

Share with us one positive change that you were able to make.
Share one thing you would like to work on in the future.

Morning Everyone!

I am so sorry that I have been missing in action a bit this week. I have shared a bit with some but I am working so hard at trying to find a teaching job before school starts as there are some last minute jobs that always come up. My days are being spent filling out applications, bringing portfolios to schools, calling principals, etc. It is so time consuming. I will also share and admit that it is a bit taxing on me emotionally and I haven't felt like coming here and sharing much. I have been amazed (and depressed) to work so hard and not even get an interview as I find out that there are hundreds of teachers applying for every open job. Still, I have to continue trying my hardest and seeing if I can't break through the barrier someplace and get an interview.

On a positive note...it has been exciting to finalize our WDW plans for the Princess Marathon. For all of you who are doing it, remember free dining starts on Friday, February 25th! Take advantage if it works out for you! We had to do a room only reservation on Thursday night (because of flights, that is the day we have to arrive) but then we will have our package start Friday morning and get the free dining for our stay! I get so hungry when I run long distances so this works out great!!! :goodvibes

Alright, I have to go for now. I promise to check in more tonight! Have a great Friday everyone and good luck with weigh in!
Jen

Good morning everyone! I am finally caught up. It was a busy week, not even sure why. Thanks to Pamela for coaching last week! My name is Rose and I am your coach for this week.:goodvibes I'm a little nervous, since we have had such great coaches and questions, but I'm also excited about being the coach for the last week of the challenge. I think most people know this, but I am a 40something year old Mom of one 19yo college sophomore.:goodvibes Married for 23 years to my college sweetheart. I work part-time for a non-profit in the development department and love it. My background is in socialwork, so fund development is quite the change for me, but I am learning so much. And the reality is the more money we raise, the more kids we serve. I have thought that I was overweight my entire life. I got a lot of bad messages growing up, which I still struggle with a bit, but it's getting better. In reality, I was pretty thin until my 20s. I have put it on and taken if off for the last 15-20years. Hopefully, this is the last time!

I typed my replies in a word document, since it covered both threads!

Jen—wow that is some workout schedule and a great list! :goodvibes

Jude—welcome back!

I loved reading where everyone would donate their $10000. I think I would give mine to Habitat for Humanity.

Bree—hope you had fun at the fair.

Dahly—hugs to you. I had one of those weeks last week. I hate PMS.

Dona—enjoy your week with your DS.

Hi Maria! Flossing is such a good habit. I floss everyday after a nasty wakeup call at the dentist a couple of years ago. I had to have two deep cleanings and I did not enjoy it. I don’t ever want to have to do that again.:confused3

Zoesmama—So sorry about the food poisoning. Hope you are feeling back on track soon!

CC—hope you had a binge free night and a binge free day!

Tracey—hugs to you . I bet you will be right back on track, especially with the kids going back to school soon. Congrats on all the upcoming clients!

Mommyof2pirates—wow, that is such an awful disease. Our DS has a genetic disorder, and when they are rare, there usually isn’t a ton of research being done. So glad they are close to finding a cure.

Taryn—Hugs to you. I don’t know how you are still standing with the schedule you’ve been keeping.

Hi Carmiedog!

Kathy—So glad the intervals are working. Connie runs with walk breaks as well, and knowing she was using them gave us the last push we needed to try it. I still like running without stopping, but I think it’s a great tool to use. Have a great time!

Jen—good luck with the job search. And how exciting to book your Princess trip.

Well, yesterday I reached my goal.:goodvibes It was very anti-climatic. Once again in my head, I kept thinking should I go lower. Today I am up .8 from yesterday, but I have decided that I am going to maintain at the weight I was at yesterday. I still think I will probably drop a few more pounds, just getting used to maintaining, so I may have to adjust my maintain weight a bit. I have so many mixed emotions. I am very proud and very thankful to you all and to Mike for all the support. But I am also a little scared. Scared that I can't stay at this weight, and scared that I've got a little too many ana thoughts floating around. But I know you all will be here and I know I can do this! And if I fall off the wagon and break a dish I do not need to throw out the entire set! (A little metaphor combining.;)) So I am celebrating today!:cheer2: In January when I started this, I did not think I would see the 150s, let alone the 140s. So thank you all. You are awesone.:goodvibes

One week to go! I hope everyone sees good things on the scale today and that everyone is excited about pushing hard this last week!

Ok, I'll be back in a minute with the QOTD.

QOTD--ok we'll start with a hard one, but I promise they won't all be hard.:goodvibes
Now that the challenge is wrapping up, have you had any AHA moments or revelations that you feel comfortable sharing? Have you been able to identify any specific reasons that have contributed to your weight?

I've had a couple of revelations. One came in the last challenge, but it took me a while to deal with it. I am an emotional eater. I can remember being frustrated with Mike and sitting down with a bag of chips and dip and thinking, I'm going to show him, I'm going to eat this bag of chips. How silly is that? What did I want to show him? How big I could get? I would eat to feel better, eat because it calmed me down, eat for so many unnecessary reasons. The aha moment was when I figured out that by overeating that I was only hurting myself. It took a while to stop the binges and I think exercise really helped with that. Once I was regularly exercising, I was much more able to deal with the emotions that came up.

I have also now realized i cannot have artificial sweeteners. The healthier I eat, and the longer I've been off diet soda, the more I realize how much that was contributing to my sugar cravings and weight gain.

And on a positve note, I realized I am a pretty strong person, and that I really can do things that I put my mind to! When DS went away to college last year, I wanted to get in bed, pull the covers over my head and stay there. But I now have a new job, new friends, and a healthy body!

COW--PART TWO
As we come to the end of this challenge, reflect on how you feel that you did in creating a healthier lifestyle.

Positive change--I am cooking more at home and really enjoying it!
Work on--I'm thinking about taking swim lessons in the fall! I'm also thinking about boot camp, after all these races are done this fall. And Mike and I are floating around the M word. (You know, that race, that I really am not ready to say out loud yet, because I feel like I should finish the 1/2s before I talk about the whole!:thumbsup2)

Great job rose! You will be able to maintain this weight because you have now made yourself a new lifestyle. No longer dieting but a change of life. You are amazing and should be very proud of yourself. Thanks for coaching this week.

Pam thanks for coaching last week. Great job and wonderful questions:thumbsup2

QOTD- My AHA moment has been that if I just make this my way of life and not focus on the dieting factor it works. I feel more in control than ever that I will continue to loose and get to my goal and actually stay there this time. I know emotions and motherhood has contributed to my weight gain over the years. I am an emotional eater because it makes me feel better. Becoming a mother not only put the lbs on during pregnancy but even after I would feel like the only time I could relax would be if we would go out to eat. No cooking or cleaning involved. We ate out so much on a daily basis. This packed on the weight as well as wasted our money too.

TOM showed up last night. PMS doesnt seem too bad this month, hopefully it stays that way over the weekend. Not much planned this weekend other than cleaning/laundry/house organization.

QOTD: I am a stress eater!!!!! Well, I already knew that but over the last two months it really struck me!

At work waiting for my client to arrive at 10. I have a bit of a headache which may have been caused by the acorn smacking me on the head this morning! Man, that really hurt!!!!

I got up and did the 3 mile Pilates Walk and I felt great! Hoping to do more later. I had my protein water and a Special K bar and now I'm drinking water. Not sure what I'll have for lunch. I know we're having steak, honey glazed carrots and au gratin potatoes for supper.

I weighed myself and though it wasn't pretty it was a wake up call. I now have about 20 pounds I NEED to lose by Dec. 1. I was 164.4 which is a weight I never wanted to see again. I have just let myself go and need to bring myself back under control. I hope to do some elliptical later this afternoon.

Girls and I are at work. They are watching Night at the Museum 2 in one of our pedicure rooms right now. After work we need to run to Trader Joe's, Target, and Market Basket and grab something for lunch. I'm almost done cleaning my bedroom. It's just the little things that I need to find room for that I'm dealing with now. I also need to do some laundry and gather more clothes for donation on Tuesday.

Gotta go check the hot stones! Later, friends!

Good Morning, fellow BL contestants! I just love the smell of a fresh new thread! ;)

Hi Jen! -- I am sorry I did COW Part 1 last week but forgot to send it in -- it was really helpful this week, so I wanted you to know!

COW Part 2 --One positive change I made was I increased my long runs to 10M and I've been able to sustain it. In the future I need to work on consistency with workouts, and not getting down when I do everything right one day and then don't see a loss the next. I'm just not a "lose every day" kind of gal...

QOTD--ok we'll start with a hard one, but I promise they won't all be hard.:goodvibes
Now that the challenge is wrapping up, have you had any AHA moments or revelations that you feel comfortable sharing? Have you been able to identify any specific reasons that have contributed to your weight?

I can't think of a specific AHA moment, but I have recognized that consistency is crucial for continued success. I can't be totally on one week and totally off the next -- it's better to do fewer miles and have a balance than to go crazy and then be unable to move ::yes::

I got up this morning and ran 4M, which felt pretty good. I'm not sure what tomorrow's workout will be, it depends on when I get up. We're going to meet dh's SB and his wife about 1.5 hrs away at noon, so if I get up early enough I can get in my 10M, if not I'll do it Sunday. I ate really well last night, and I plan to continue that through tonight. I know lunch will be hard tomorrow since we will be out in a restaurant, but I will do my best.

Thanks to Pamela for a great coaching week, and :welcome: to Rose, our "take it home" coach! And a huge Congratulations for making your goal, what a wonderful role model you are! :woohoo:
