Anyone decide to pack it in and cancel trip later this year?

We have a trip planned to BLT in early November with our son and his girlfriend who will be a first-timer. Of course we were delighted that our son’s love of Disney has resurfaced as a young professional and That he wanted to share it with his serious girlfriend.

We are all signed up for the Wine and Dine race which looks like it will be cancelled. DH and I were discussing the fact that Disney is not an inexpensive trip to not be able to have the full experience or something close. Tickets cost the same with a lesser experience. Restaurant experiences will not be the same. Covid necessities will have an impact on the experience. I know a first-timer will not have a frame of reference but we would like the experience to be so much more. Many of the experiences our son would like to share with his soon to be fiance will not be available. And now we are dealing with waiting to purchase our son’s girlfriend’s park ticket and hope to still be able to secure park reservations. Ironically, the fear of Covid is not a factor in considering to cancel.

Has anyone else cancelled or Is considering cancelling for the same reasons?

We had 3 reservations for Oct 2020. I cancelled the 2 bedroom and a studio. I keep the 1 bedroom because my son is still looking to go for F&W. IMO, I don't think this will happen since they already cancelled the Halloween party.

I totally agree with you and your thought process. Disney is not an inexpensive vacation. We all realize the changes are due to COVID, but I also think most will take a serious look at the value vs the cost - and with all the changes, a Disney vacation is simply not worth the cost. That said, I am willing to wait a few months to see what the new processes will be and if they justify the cost.

I have an early November trip planned and I'm still going.

Things that could affect going would be if they canceled the already announced scaled back food and wine.

Also, I have to join the fray for park reservations.

And last but not least, conditions in the state. Hopefully they improve significantly before my trip.

We have an early November all adults reservation. The number one deciding factor will be the state of the virus in Florida; as of now, it looks like Florida's numbers are skyrocketing for obvious reasons.

Not overly concerned about the parks. We thought about a day at Epcot for F&W (if it runs until November & seems worth it) and possibly the MVMCP if there is a not too modified one. But we were always looking at this trip as more of a non-Disney Disney trip--Relaxing at the resort, trying some new restaurants on & off site including at City Walk, repeat visit to Space Center, the Dali Museum & Chihuly Exhibit in St Pete, mini golf...

Unfortunately, this reservation is booked on banked 2018 points that are only good through this November 30 (December use year). I sincerely doubt DVC would restore those points if we have to cancel.

Ultimately, with so much hardship and sickness we remain grateful to even be thinking about such matters.

they've already announced Food and Wine WILL be happening. It will be modified and no concerts. So he should look at what will be offered and decide if he still wants go.

I changed my reservation twice. It is now set for early January. Between a limited experience and the reservation system and Covid I am thinking of just cancelling.

We pulled the plug on our Nov trip (we also had to cancel our April 2020 trip). Too many uncertainties, particularly given we are from Canada (insurance, quarantine upon return etc.). We actually felt better once we did. We’ll be back at better time for us.

Well, it isn't really "later this year", unless you count September as later. I had a mid-September trip at BCV (followed by Jambo) for my yearly trip to the F&W. But since I hadn't bought tickets yet, and I gave up my AP 2 years ago, and the reopening restrictions had too much uncertainty, I just, very regretfully, cancelled it. Also, during the days at Jambo, I was planning to do "Lunch with an Animal Specialist", and they cancelled that.

Had our May trip canceled. it was a 15 day split stay at BWV and BLT Park view. There is no way to re-create that type of visit this year, in fact, I can't find availability for more than a few days at a time throughout October-November. So now trying to line it all up again next May. And have to figure out how to use my points sent away to RCI because they forced me to... and then changed the policy for the fiftieth time (yes editorializing) so I could have saved my points.. but I don't think there would have been availability anyway.

Just canceled a BCV 2-BR for October 10-16. Counting on more certainty from the world next spring...🤞

Well the fact that DVC members with a valid reservation that was booked with points that were CANCLED BY DISNEY and allowed to rebook those dates AFTER tickets sales were stopped are UNABLE to make park reservations stings. THIS IS NOT RIGHT! Why would DVC allow us to book these dates but not buy tickets for them? Now we have reservations and flights, but cannot book park reservations? How is this right? DVC should have not allowed us to book these dates, or should allow ticket sales or park reservations for these DVC booked members!!!!!!

How can I not cancel now?
It is so wrong

Cancelled our biennial Thanksgiving trip last Friday. It hurt and I took a hit on banked Dec 2018 UY points. The only way to salvage them was to move to RCI. No idea how that works and I want to use them ASAP. And now I will have a surplus of Dec 2020 UY points from our annual deposit and banked Dec 2019 UY points.

Got lucky today and booked Spring Break for Poly and Copper Creek. That helped to use up my banked Dec 2019 UY points. Fingers crossed, sacrificing chickens and praying to the gods that trip works out.

I wish I knew what they were thinking. I am trying not to get too upset because I am thankful that my family has its health through this pandemic but Disney really missed the ball with this decision. Our flights are booked for November and there is a real possibility we will not be able to secure park reservations for the family.

We have a 10 day stay at Riviera in December which we are very much considering cancelling. Unfortunately, this was going to be our only shot at doing a Christmas visit as we don't typically have vacation available in December. Between the US/Canada border issues and not being able to guarantee park reservations because we don't have tickets, it feels like a monumental risk trying to make this trip work. We might just push it back to June 2021 for our sons 1st birthday and do a bigger trip.

I just canceled our October trip. All of the factors you mentioned went into this decision, which was a little heart-breaking. Most importantly, I'm not comfortable travelling to Florida right now (or anywhere by plane, for that matter). There is also no way I could wear a mask for a long period of time in Florida's oppressive heat and humidity. And so many of the experiences my family enjoys are canceled, suspended, or simply unknown variables. Plus we have no tickets, so I'd be unable to reserve park time now anyway. We're shooting for June 2021, hoping the public health crisis will have subsided and restrictions will be lifted.

Canada here too. I'm considering cancelling January 2021. I know it's not "later this year". I booked to use some banked points from 2019 UY. I need to make a decision before Nov 30 in order to be able to bank my current UY points. I'm not confident the border will be open by that time. I might just have to let my 2019 points go, but I'm only losing 23 pts, so not the end of the world.
