A year or so ago there were rumors floating around the web about an animated feature that would have Mickey figting against all the villains, or in which everyone was searching for Mickey who had been kidnapped by the villians (the kidnapped hero idea having the same plot flaw that the scooby doo movie will have).

There were also rumors about a new wdw attraction for the 20k lagoon that would be a log flume with cave tech. in which Mickey was running from the viillains.

I figured that Mickey's philharmagic was the product of the ideas that led to both of those rumors, but there is also a new direct to tv video coming out based on the house of mouse. Note the dvd prices in this news release:

After buying the Christmas House of Mouse DVD on a whim....and realizing what crap it was, I won't be buying this one. House of Mouse is an okay concept for Saturday morning cartoons, but to promote cheesy TV as feature animation is just plain silly. These really don't warrant a price above $15....that's what TV shows on tape seem to go for.

We've got to keep our perspective on this stuff.

Most DVDs of even OLD TV shows go for at least $15, and usually $20. So it follows that Disney would charge in that ballpark for a new House of Mouse release. $29.99 does seem a little steep, but I wonder if this is one of those "planned sale" things. Not sure what the industry term is, but we've all seen some DVDs come out with a $30 retail price, but everybody has it on sale for $20. Other times, nobody has it on sale. I'm thinking this maybe one where it shows up on sale everywhere. If not, $29.99 is probably a tad high, though it sounds like this is completely original, unlike Snowed in at the House of Mouse.

If you look at the $20 price tags on the DVDs for all of the old Christmas specials (Rudolph, Santas Claus is Coming to Town, etc), its hard to fault Disney for charging the same or a little more for its own new releases.

I was referring to VHS when I mentioned $15. Most Disney TV on VHS sells for $10-$13. DVD seems fair around $20.

Of course, I've been trying to find old Bill Nye the Science Guy tapes and Disney wants $40 for those...VHS yet!
