Alcohol and Lobster - Now We Can Raise Prices Again

We are on the dining plan and have no quick service restaurants planned for our MK day. We are doing CRT breakfast and BOG dinner. I'm happy I can get a mimosa with breakfast and a glass of wine with dinner and it makes me feel like I'm getting a better value out of the dining plan. I certainly won't be getting wasted, not for the prices they charge! If I want more than one drink, I will be doing it at my resort with the alcohol we ordered in our Safeway delivery order!

Drunkcot is bad enough. We don't need the Drunken Kingdom.

Agreed, although I don't necessarily think that serving alcohol just in MK restaurants will make the park into Drunken Kingdom. But I also hate that I have to consider what time my family stays at Epcot on a Friday night at F&W because of the rowdiness that goes on there. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's dangerous, it just becomes a lot less "family friendly" after a certain time.

As currently available, I find it almost impossible to believe that the new alcohol policy at the MK will generate rowdy, drunken behavior in the part. PPs have noted that it certainly hasn't been the case at the other parks and I agree with that. To be fair, I have seen staggering and vomiting guests at Epcot, which is unfortunate, but it's not common and has been confined to weekends during the F&WF and St. Patrick's Day. I am guessing that there are other days where it could happen more commonly, such as NYE, but in scores of visits to Epcot I can count on one hand the number of times I've witnessed alcohol-related issues.

We have never encountered bad drunken behavior on our WDW trips.

Neither have I. And if I did I probably wouldn't even notice or just laugh it off if they were doing something silly. Drunk people don't kill my vibe.

So many people are anti alcohol (my family included). Having a drink at dinner doesn't make you an alcoholic. Everything is good in moderation.

I have dozens of trips to WDW. I have never seen any drunken behavior at any parks. I haven’t been to EPCOT during F&W, but I don’t see Disney starting any drinking festivals at MK. When the alcohol topic comes up periodically, people always want to start using hyperbole to make their points. If you don’t like to drink, then don’t. Simple as that. Obviously, a large segment of guests have asked for alcohol in MK or they would not be making this change.

I think it is a bit over the top to be so worried about a bit of beer and wine being served with a meal at MK. Considering how much alcohol you can find in every other DW location I don't think it will be a problem. I have spent considerable time in all of the parks and have never seen any behavior in any of them that I wouldn't have aloud my daughter to see. If Epcot isn't a problem then I don't think that MK will be one. I am sure those that want to go to MK a bit tipsy would just visit one of the deluxe lounges for a few rounds before going. DW including MK is not just for children and I think that they are really trying to cater to that more and more. I would also love to have a rum dole whip at MK.......

I've had the same experience. But I have been to Food and Wine, and on a Friday night.

I have seen crazy behavior, but no drunken behavior.

. A Dole Whip with rum would be perfect on a hot day. Sounds Absolutely delicious!

and we’ve never seen drunks stumbling around, even going during Food and Wine.

Same here, been going to Epcot since before I could legally drink and I've encountered boisterous and loud groups who probably drank a bit more than they should, but never rude or unpleasant. And I myself enjoy a few slushies from France and a beer or 2. My kids are grown, MK is the park I spend the least amount of time but I don't think there's anything wrong with wine or beer with dinner. Now, a dole whip with a splash of rum, well that would hit the spot on the way to POTC!

Gotta comment.... "Alcohol and Lobster" inside a Park? ummmm - Lobster is going to look like a 2 point Crayfish :).
Alcohol? Yes, it can easily become a problem. That's why we avoid Food&Wine as much as possible :(. Not teetotalers... always wine with dinner.
We just personally get concerned over park visitors that have had a wee bit too much :(.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

Same. Been to Food and Wine many times, including Friday nights and weekends, and I have NEVER seen anyone really drunk. A few tipsy, but then again I am tipsy after like 1-2 drinks since I pretty much never drink.

And just a tip... after a couple drinks, Spaceship Earth is a lot of fun. Especially the going backwards part... and the moving "sidewalk" to get on it.

The moving sidewalk!?!?!?!

For me, that would be a comedy show unto itself.

Disney doesn't need an excuse to raise prices.

They'll raise them regardless. And everyone will make a great big multi-thread fuss... And continue to pay those prices.

In all my years, I have yet to see drunken fools at the levels claimed here. The drunkest folk I've seen have been poolside at the resorts... And they didn't bother me at all.

I have had more issues with sober people, many of whom are parents. I have seen obnoxious parents not paying any mind to their children. Parents ignoring their kids in favor of talking on the phones. Parents screaming at their kids. Parents yelling at their kids for "ruining" their vacation because the kid was scared of going on a ride, or dropped their ice cream or some other minor offense. I have seen parents pushing their kids beyond their functional limits in order to maximize the value of their vacation. (To the child's detriment.) I have seen kids running amok with no supervision in sight, or the parents smirk and think their kid's behavior is cute. I've seen people throwing their litter everywhere but the trash can, including on rides. Dance/cheerleading/tour groups that gather in huge crowds and dance and chant obnoxiously on rides, in lines, and blocking pathways.

I ignore almost all of this and move on with my vacation because it is a blip in time.

I think people are making a much, much bigger deal about this than it's worth. The other three parks and DS are fine; it will be fine here, too.

I belong to the Church of Mickey...and if Mickey says it's okay to drink alcohol and include it in my dining plan, I'm going to drink it!

Sometimes we forget that we have a choice; if you think alcohol will "ruin the family atmosphere" at the Kingdom then you can decide to spend your vacation somewhere else like Universal or Sea World. Only you know what is best/right for your family.

I have heard reports that if people are too tipsy they will be gently asked/escorted out of the parks (only tipsy people I've seen was Epcot and NO ONE was stumbling or vomiting! that would be extreme)...Alcohol was always available, now you can only get one "free" drink with the regular/qs meal plan - so unless people are light weights, they probably won't be getting drunk (unless they want to pay extra). I have never paid for the meal plan (probably not worth the cost) but go when it's free dining and plan on utilizing the choice of one alcoholic or specialty drink my next trip.

I know others have reported a lot of bad drunken behavior at Epcot but I have rarely scene it. The worst I saw was Late at night during F&W, was a few overly loud guys at the England Area that were pretty contained, and again a couple of rather drunk girls that were stumbley and friendly at the Very end of the night as we were all leaving the park anyway.
I have never seen puking, disruption, passing out, obscenity.
Anywhere there is alcohol this is a possibility, but I think Disney does a good job of controlling the situation.
I myself would love a cocktail with my quick service lunch at MK, especially to make the most of my Dining credit, but if I can't get it won't ruin my day.

I however can say while it would not be a disaster if they started offering it at carts like AK etc., I think that feels a little out of place with MK. Only because for me it is such an "innocent" place to be and and beer carts wouldn't "match" the atmosphere.

WDW has and always had a roaming Liquor license meaning you can drink anywhere. Disney will rarely stop anyone from drinking anywhere and has not in the past. Liquor and beer has always been available at the resorts and years ago when a beer was one dollar what stopped people from getting on the monorail or bus with a beer... Nothing and people including myself did that and people still do now if they want to shell out the 5 bucks for a can of Coors light... While the DP will encourage more people to drink as it is included it is no different than before the current DP existed when they charged the same or less for liquor outside of Disney. Disney is now just capitalizing on the sale of liquor... Years ago the only place they enforced not walking around with a drink is when you left pleasure island at night.. otherwise a drink in a plastic cup was fine to exit the parks with...Further the 2 drinks you are allowed a day hours apart will get few people drunk -- and I would go as far as to say no one but there is always the one in a million exception. Further If people get drunk--at a huge $$$$ cost at Disney and cause disruption Disney deals with it quickly.... For memory lane Sea world owned by Anheiser Bush always allowed all guest over the age of 21 to dink as much beer as they cared to for FREE and people think free ice water at Disney is a perk....
