*While I was planning my trip, I didnt find many trip reports about traveling to the Med with a young child. There were lots with older children but things are always a bit different with the little ones. After much thought, I decided to write my own in hopes that maybe it can help someone that may be wondering if they are absolutely insane about flying to another continent with a 5 year old to get on a Disney ship . Im going to include our entire journey and it will probably be a bit lengthy, but I hope it helps at least one person. Thanks for reading.*
INTRODUCTION
It all started with a promise. When my mom was diagnosed with stage 3B ovarian cancer in 2010, I told her that when she was done with treatment we would go to Europe together. It was something she had always wanted but we hadnt had a chance to do. I even told her I would take my son (who was 1 at the time her 1st grandson). I printed off a picture of the Magic and posted it on her refrigerator she laughed and thought it was cute. Well, four years later I was able to make true on my promise. It took longer than I wanted it too but Im so thankful that she has remained healthy enough to go on this adventure with us. We are truly blessed.
WHO ARE WE
Our traveling group is small. Its just myself, my DS and my mom. DH stayed back as he was in Dubai for 3 months and traveled to Brazil for 2 weeks earlier this year so he is done with traveling for the year (or so he says).
Me: 31, mommy to my awesome son JJ and a HUGE Disney lover. This would be my 5th DCL cruise as well (woohoo, I made it to GOLD!)
JJ: DS who recently turned 5. We called this trip his 5th birthday celebration. Hes really just the greatest kid in the world. This was also his 5th DCL cruise.
Mom: My sweet mom, 71 years old and cancer survivor/fighter. She loves to travel and this was her 3rd DCL cruise.
Here are our beautiful faces:
OUR PLAN
Disney Magic, 5 night Med Cruise, August 11th-16th.
We plan on arriving to Barcelona a few days before and departing Barcelona the day after the ship gets back. Since I was traveling with my mom and my son, I knew I had to take things slow but I still wanted to get the most of this trip. So heres the plan:
Thursday Depart Houston via United Airlines
Friday Layover in Frankfort, Germany arrive in Barcelona, Spain @ 3pm
Saturday - Barcelona
Sunday Barcelona
Monday Embark Disney Magic 5 night Med Cruise
Tuesday Villefranche (on our own port adventure)
Wednesday Pisa (EasyPisa with DCL Port Adventure)
Thursday Civitavecchia Rome (RomeinLimo)
Friday Sea Day
Saturday Disembark - Barcelona
Sunday Depart Barcelona / Arrive Houston @ 4:30pm
While in Barcelona we will be staying at the Hotel Colon. On our last night (after we disembark the ship), we will be staying at the BAH (Barcelona Airport Hotel).
