4th of July in Yellowstone

Most vacation destinations seem MUCH more busy during this holiday, usually due to special happenings at this time. Does anybody know if the Yellowstone sees a bigger surge of people at the 4th of July or is it the same as the crowds during the rest of the summer? I wouldn't imagine fireworkds, etc. in the National Parks. Thanks for any advice.

You are right, no fireworks in the park, although surrounding towns may have festivities. It will be crowded on the 4th, not just the day but the week. It seems to be a peak travel/vacation week for many folks.

Idaho Falls is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from the park and we have one of the biggest firework display in the west, the Melaluca Freedom Celebration. It really is impressive.

Both Cody and Jackson do fireworkd for the 4th. In Jackson, they shoot them off the top of Snow-King mountain, the local town ski area. You can hike up on the slopes, lay out a blamket and watch them explode above you, lighting up the mountain.

As for crowds, July is the busiest month in Yellowstone. Probably not any busier over the 4th than any other time in the month. Hotels will all be booked.
