I was just exploring the official Disney weddings website and clicked on the "about us" option. On the bottom of the screen it took me to it listed some special discounts they are offering to Wishes brides who have a wedding in 2009 and book after March 25th. It doesn't help me since I don't want my wedding until 2010 but I thought it might help some of you that haven't chosen a date yet. They also had clips from some Disney weddings that were featured on tv (not the most recent show though).

Thank you so much for posting this! You just gave me a glimmer of hope......we are on more of an Escape budget, but our family is Wishes sized, this discount coukd possibly help! Not sure we could get it all planned this quickly though, lol.

But thanks for posting it!

Thanks for the info but this stinks for me! We have already booked, but our Wishes VR is Nov. 9, 2009. Is it worth it to ask my planner if we can still get the 10% discount?

I would definitely ask, it sounds like the discounts could apply to you.

Sounds like now is a great time to get married!! So jealous of those who get to take advantage.

Now the hard part- convincing DF that we can throw this together this quickly AND actually pulling it off! I think I am getting WAY overexcited here.

Do you think its possible to get guests to come with such short notice?

I REALLY would love to do early December, but my school has not put out the academic calendar for next fall yet. This could cause some major drama. lol.

Perhaps with short notice, we may end up pulling off an escape anyway. Ha!

I think you have enough time to pull it off. I seriously considered having my wedding in September and would have been notifying guests now.

Can't you guess when your break will start based on last year's calendar? The schools I teach for always start winter break on the same day of the week, so it's easy to figure out.

wow that's a great deal if you can take advantage of it!

I think that is plenty of notice as long as you have a date set in stone and let your guests know of it by the beginning of the summer. After reading about the discount I am seriously considering October. I have the advantage of living locally and think I could pull it off in time. I wish I could do
Dec but DF wouldn't be able to because of his job. One thing I like about Oct is the Halloween party is going on and it would be fun to do that with a group of my girlfriends in place of a bachelorette party. One think I don't like about Oct is the weather. I've gone to MNSSHP the past several years and some years it is too hot to wear my Halloween costume, other years I am freezing and can't wear my costume without a jacket over it.
As far as the school schedule, I am a teacher and am planning on taking a few days off for my wedding no matter which month I get married. I don't mind waiting until the next long school break to take the honeymoon. Our school schedule for next year is already decided upon but they don't really publish it until it is finalized, which is usually in April or May. You could probably find out tentatively when your break would be if you ask around and explain the reason why you are asking.

This doesn't change the minimum requirements, though...right? You're just saving money on some things, so you can spend them on others... Am I understanding that right??

This is the same question I have.:confused3 I'm guessing the minimum is still the minimum and you are just getting more stuff for your 10 or $12,000?? Because if the minimum expenditure is lower it may just be worth me upgrading from an escape to a wishes, seeing as we are already adding a dinner and a dessert party! At least then I could invite more than 20 people :)

That is correct, discounts don't affect your minimum.

I called for some clarification on this and the girl would not answer any questions for me at all! Every question I tried to ask, she said she would refer to a wedding planner, and she took my number. I am now getting a bad feeling. She wouldnt even answer basic DFTW questions for me, and it was the tn from that discount section of the DFTW page.

It was very clear to me that the person on the phone had NO idea about this discount. I had initially thought it would be an actual discount, therefore making the minimum less. Now that you say you still have to meet the minimums, that does seem to make more sense from Disney's standpoint.

Looking at it that way, if I would end up spending the same, might as well take my time and not have to RUSH everything.

I hate being stuck between Escape & Wishes. With Escape once you add in the dinner after, the DP etc I am going to spend CLOSE to the 10k but have such a restriction on the guest list. But it will be less expensive!

BUT if I jump to wishes, its going to be closer to 15K once you add in taxes etc. and Im not even sure who would actually be willing to come.

I am going to just keep planning my wedding for the next decade and never actually get to have one. lol. :scared1:

I just emailed my planner too. Hopefully we'll get to take advantage of the 10% discount. I'll let you all know what happens.

According to info from the site (all of which is posted on page 1 of this thread), the discounts only apply to those who book their weddings after March 25. Basically, it's like a "last-minute" discount.

And nowhere does it say the minimum expenditure requirements are lower - just that you get discounts on the things that you buy to meet those minimum requirements. So you get more bang for your buck, but you still have to spend the same minimum amount of bucks. :cutie:

I am not surprised that the person who answered the phone didn't want to answer questions about the discount - only Wedding Consultants and Event Planners seem to be privy to the nitty-gritty pricing details. :thumbsup2
