Romantic Trip..Tips/Suggestions??

Consider getting a 7:20 reservation for Rose & Crown.

Its not the best choice for one of your ultra romantic nights. The food can be average. It will make one of your other nights very romantic though because you can sit on the water and watch illuminations.

Make sure you find the rose gardens in both MK and Epcot. I love the Fountain of Nations in Epcot too.

For the proposal...I would either choose the wishing well or the rose garden in MK.

Then again...there's always Tower of Terror. Get engaged and take the plunge. Literally.

Thanks Everyone! This thread sure blew up overnight! lol

1) I was thinking about the flowers thing...it'd be crazy romantic and she loves a bouquet of flowers probably more than most things in life :lmao:
I'm just scared of it dying during our trip lol...I mean if I order it for it to come on Sunday, when we leave on Friday night to go home, what are we gonna do...leave them to wilt and die in our room??? Yikes. And also...weird thing..she doesn't like roses. She thinks they're cheesy and stuff. She loves different flowers...like a mix of really colorful ones. Maybe I'll do that...

2) TSR...Toy Story Mania? It really gets THAT crowded huh? To get it in the morning before park hopping to Epcot? Wow. Sure I'll try it..might as well...

3) 'Ohana looks incredible...I'm a meat eater. There's no hiding it. But I'm not sure if she'd like everything there...and a dinner show doesn't really appeal to us. We're more that type of sit-in-peace-and-not-be-a-part-of-the-show type of people lol. Plus that pineapple'y 'welcome bread' I don't think would be her thing...

4) A quiet place in the WS in Epcot..like the fountain in France I'm sorta anticipating would be a prime location to propose.

Lets be real for a second: Hiding that box with the ring in it, is going to be really hard to conceal in my shorts pocket. I was just thinking about that. :guilty:

I was going to say something else but..I forget lol.

Thanks again!!!!

Canada and England both have semi out of the way gardens. France sorta does, but not really (and it is a character meet and greet spot). So if she is a flower fanatic you could try one of those spots. You could carry the ring in a small bag around your neck as well. Wouldn't trust it to be loose in a pocket, I'd be terrified of losing it :)

Is she a disney fan? What is HER favorite Disney character? Maybe you could pull her over to a meet and greet with that character and then propose. That way you could get a photo of the two of you with the character (talk to the photopass guy or the character "handler", I bet they can make this happen).

Just be very careful with all of your fancy dinner reservations. In July it is gonna be HOT HOT HOT, which means you need to know if she is the kinda girl who will take 2 hours (+1 hour for travel) to head back for a shower and primping or can she walk right in? Don't want to add time pressure stress to the trip, especially if you are trying to propose.

1)We have done Disney Florist on Several occasions and they can do anything you want...no roses! Get them delivered EARLY in the trip and then you can enjoy them until you go home.

2) You are going to want to do Rope Drop for DHS day. One of you (whoever walks faster) take both tickets and head for the FP machines at TSM. Then you both get in the Stand-by line. By the time you get out of the ride, it's almost time for your FP's. Voila! You get to ride twice!

3) We had our "night before the Wedding---let everyone meet each other" dinner here. It was fantastic! I have also been there with just a couple of friends (try to get there early and ask to sit by the window---the view is romantic) Pineapple bread may sound icky, but it's really tasty!

4) My DH is like you and your hunny. Secluded for the proposal. He took me down the path to the "picture spot" in AK, waited for the other people to leave and THEN asked. Do you carry a camera case???? That is where he hid the ring box. Maybe you should take up a little hobby of photography...

Ok, the most romantic time I have had at WDW was watching the fireworks, pre-wishes, from a hammock at the Poly. I would have loved a proposal there, and Wishes would make a great tie in to your feelings. I think it would be exciting yet still pretty private.

On Ohana, even the picky eaters went out happy and full, wouldn't want to be that full on the day I was getting proposed to/proposing, but a great meal.

On the ring. I would be so paranoid of losing it. Don't know if you normally wear them but cargo shorts with pockets that securely close (Velcro or button) would help.

Good luck and happy planning,
Donna

Throwing this one out there (not proposal-related, but still fun!): Maybe a segway tour? The Around the World at Epcot is a blast and gets you into the World Showcase before it opens.

I second the carriage ride at POR. Then you can walk down to French Quarter and listen to Elliot's one man jazz show in the lounge. Small, low-key, nice atmosphere (Wed-Sat nights) and isn't group participation ;)

DF is a CM and several of his coworkers suggested the gardens in Canada when they heard I wanted a quiet proposal without many spectators (we actually got engaged at Animal Kingdom). The flowers there are just beautiful and would really tie in nicely with your overall "theme." If you're not sure where the gardens are, take the path towards Le Cellier and the 360 movie and they're over to the right. Perfectly manicured and just gorgeous.

DF totally shares your pain trying to hide the ring box. He had the same problem and the particular company he got the ring from produces exceptionally large boxes! I would suggest bringing some kind of book bag if you're planning to be in the park all day. DF uses one of those drawstring bags so it isn't too big but still holds some essentials. Of course use the bag the entire trip so it isn't too obvious! If you're planning to go straight to the proposal from the hotel you could just put the ring in your pocket without the box? I understand if part of your "vision" includes opening the ring box but keeping a small ring in your pocket will be much less obvious. But I wouldn't do that if you were just keeping the ring in your pocket all day. Too much could go wrong!

I proposed right before Wishes in the rose garden. I carried a small string back pack with me the entire day with a glass slipper in a box with the ring tied in the slipper...

I just want it to be perfect. I realized that since I haven't seen Wishes in 8yrs or so, and she hasn't seen Wishes..well..I don't think ever, I wanna be right there on Main Street with the crowds, up front. Being at Ohana or Cali Grill and seeing them from that vantage point won't be the same. But....having Ohana beforehand would be cool. The more I look at it, the more do-able it seems. The pineapple welcome bread, I know I'll love...I love all food lol. But I'm just concerned she won't like it too much. Just one question: Is Ohana seating all together like Biergarten at Epcot? Or do you have individual tables? She's not the type of person to interact with people during meals....she'll get frustrated and upset. Loud is one thing, but if other guests are trying to talk to her, she'll want to leave.

But...I realized that I have 3 main things I wanna ask everyone here that I'd LOVE answered. I'd really appreciate it guys!

1) Am I making the right decision on the night in DTD with Paradiso 37? Or should I go for T-Rex, Planet Hollywood, Wolfgang Puck, or Raglan Road?

2) What's the latest I can call to make reservations for Fantasmic w/ Mama Melrose dinner? Tusker House breakfast? Possibly Ohana for dinner on July 11th?

3) Are there any amazing restaurants CS or TS at WDW resort or park, that's a must-eat-at? Any that are specific to lunch or specific to dinner? Is there any character meal that I gotta check out? I'm already doing Cape May character breakfast, and Tusker House character breakfast.

Thanks again!

How about dinner at Ohana!...then say...let's take the BOAT to MK to see Wishes...and then you could propose on the Poly beach while looking at MK?

and then...watch Wishes either from MK or the Poly beach.

Hmmm....maybe!!

Does Ohana have individual tables, or is everyone sitting next to each other like Biergarten in Epcot?

Is there guest participation in the show??

a lot of people here tend to focus a lot on rope drop.. since you are both young and arent bringing kids.. i would say take advantage of evening EMH mostly the ones at the MK and HS.. that time of year the MK is open until 3am and around 1:00-130 you will pretty much have the park to yourself which is nice for just walking around and enjoying the magic kingdom.. its a lot easier to be romantic when the place is empty and there arent as many kids/strollers and everything else thats around in the dead of the day and morning.

when i was with my G/F over presidents day we went over to MK after a little bit of around the world at epcot we took the boat over and watched wishes from the boat, got into the MK and did some attractions with smaller lines like the laugh factory haunted mansion and jungle cruise then an hour into EMH the place pretty much cleared out.. we went on buzz like 10 times (her favorite ride) pretty much until we got 9999 then walked onto everything else except space mountain which had like a 15 minute wait.

at HS studios the next night we were able to ride Toy story mania 5 times in the last hour..we were pretty much able to walk onto everything else an hour into EMH.

Ohana has individual tables. There is not a set "show" like Spirit of Aloha. Periodically through the evening a lady comes out and sings, and gets kids to come up for activities (limbo contest, cocoanut rolling, etc). Since Ohana is a good place to linger over a meal and since it attracts large family groups, it's really kind of helpful to give the kids some official activities rather than taking the risk of bored children running wild.

When you check in (you really, really need ADRs here; nothing romantic about being told it will be a 3 hour wait for a table), just tell them you'd prefer a secluded table, like towards the back or by a window. At that point, except that there's some noise, you can pretty well ignore the entertainer.

Our personal fave is to schedule dinner 1 - 1 1/2 hours before the MK fireworks and ask for a table with a good view of the Castle. Smile and offer to wait for the type of seating you want. Smiling goes a long way because the CMs get yelled at a lot by people who didn't believe they really, really needed to make those ADRs and are now offended by the 3-hour wait. Then just as we are getting to dessert the restaurant dims the lights, pipes in the music, and you watch the fireworks right from your table. Priceless!

Don't stress about the pineapple bread. It's just the bread that they put on the table when the seat you, rather than wheat rolls or cornbread or whatever. No big deal, and she certainly doesn't need to eat it. Ohana means "family" but I think Ohana also means "we can't stand to see you with an empty plate". Very shortly after you are seated your server will start bringing the salad, apps, sides, dipping sauces. And sometimes even before that happens, the circulating servers with meat on skewers will see that empty plate, be horrified, and start trying to give you food. It's fine to tell them you want to wait for the salad, or just that you want to talk together and take your time. They'll be back. Many, many times.

So overall I'd vote to have this dinner on one of your later days, after you're engaged, and time it to watch the fireworks from the restaurant.

Ohana seems to me like the type of place that would make the Caveman side of me (which is very strong and often), VERY happy!

Meat on skewers? No plate empty? Where do I sign up? (Disney ADR site or phone #, I know, I'm just playin lol)

I might want to make it a little early though because for our once-in-years Wishes experience, I think it'd be better off if we were right there on Main St. But Ohana seems like an incredible idea!

Thanks!!!! :thumbsup2

Because we had 20 very different people, we chose 'Ohana so that everyone could find something they liked to eat. Everyone was full when they left.

A proposal on the Poly Beach would be nice and romantic.

We think the most romantic restaurant on property (aside from V an A) is Bistro de Paris. We went there for our first dinner after the Wedding as well as the last night of trips since then. It is UPstairs in France in Epcot.
It is a smaller place, white table cloths, excellent French waiters. Food is outstanding!

The PP is right....you need to get ADR's done NOW!

Okay. I'll do my ADRs for Fantasmic/Mama Melrose, Tusker House breakfast, and Ohana tomorrow.

It's free ADRs, just gotta pay $10 if we cancel in less than 24hrs of the reservation date/time right?

How come it's not letting me do sort of reservation for Fantasmic on July 8th? It's a Sunday. But on the calendar-view on the WDW website, the days gray-out and become unclickable after like June. I mean..I'll call up and ask but it's weird.

Okay so...that wednesday (i'm kinda anticipating proposing on the 1st or 2nd full day there), we'll hit MK early on after breakfast by BWI/BC, have a CS lunch, and then get a reservation for Ohana for like 7?

If we want to be up close and personal for Wishes at 10 inside MK, what ADR time should I shoot for, for Ohana?

The park closes right after Wishes right? I was warned on MANY accounts, to avoid leaving any of the parks right at the last minute when they close, since you have to face all the hordes getting back on the buses/monorails/boats.

Sorry for all the questions...lol...I'm just trying to get all planned out! :smickey:

I'm sorry, but I'm a little confused. At MK, the electric parade is at 9pm, and Wishes is at 10pm. How's the park close after the electric parade, but Wishes is an hour after that?

sometimes they have a second electric parade at 11.. in july MK will close at midnight so they will have the parade at 11 on most nights.. the closer it gets to your date you will notice more 11 oclock parades show up. that one isnt set in stone like the 9pm one
