Just got back from Wegmans, the details of my mini cart of ingredients with only one premade thing:
fresh honeydew
fresh pineapple
small mushrooms
portabella mushrooms
about 12 bananas for home made smoothies
a whole roast chicken
pack of 4 steaks
large package of raw chicken thighs
large package of chicken breast
bag of raw frozen shrimp
organic milk
organic half and half
package of 18 eggs
2 packages of cooked plantains with one for lunch and one for dinner
2 boxes of those Kleenex pop up hand towels because they are more hygienic
1 box snack size baggies and 3 bags because I'm paying for those now

Hint, I have had car payments that match

If you're having trouble, don't shop at Wegmans and don't buy all that expensive organic stuff and expensive pre cooked stuff.
Up in Massachusetts I don't find Wegmans to be much more than elsewhere, in Pennsylvania there is a noticable difference. I think Mass is one of the most expensive places in the US, when I go back to PA literally everything is at least 1-3 dollars less.

As far as organic, it is not OK that people are being taught it is luxurious to not eat pesticides and genetically modified foods we did not evolve with, I don't accept the idea that organic is fancy. Humans evolved alongside our food and even if people don't accept evolution (I do but I understand the position) there must be some ringing of a bell that we have existed alongside our plants for ages and so when we eat stuff our bodies are like, "OK there blueberry, I know what to do with you," and when we eat some synthetic goo covered in pesticides that looks like a blueberry or whatever our bodies say, "huh, what the?" and become inflammatory.

Organic shouldn't only be for upper middle class people, I reject that idea.

Oh, and BTW I can afford it, it doesn't mean I am utterly blind to the troubles of others and how things weigh on them, that would make me callous at best and a psychopath at worst, and I am neither.

As someone who shops in MA, NC and FL- my groceries are cheapest in MA. I can put the same cart of groceries in my online cart and MA is the cheapest. I go to Stop and Shop. Plus I get great gas rewards. FL is by far the worst of the 3 places.

$385

I went to my grocery that has decent prices. 2 bags of food $140. I had to buy the bags too because wasn’t plannin g on shopping, so they were the bags bigger than disposable. but still… $70/bag.

I never said it was fancy. It's over priced and Ill defined and not one iota better for you. There is absolutely no evidence of any clinically relevant difference between Organic Milk and regular.

In any case, it's your own choice, to pay extra when you don't have to.

We don’t have a Wegman’s, but the ads run in our area. They say they are committed to low prices. They say they provide recipes for dinners starting at $2.50 per serving.

Certainly that’s not what you are buying.

What kind of steaks?

I mean, a jar of sauce $4 and a box of pasta $2 with a bag of salad $4 meets that challenge for a family of 4...not the most nutritionally balanced, though...

First, don't come in hot and expect me to be nice, I'm not doing that any more for anyone at all ever, be nice and I'll be nice.

You mean the food lobby hasn't okd research that says that eating genetically modified foods to not die when Roundup and such is applied so they could get higher yields and more money could be bad for us? Hmmm, that is such a shock, like I mean after how tobacco handled things I was sure it was all trust and butterflies in the marketplace.
Gee, I wonder if the uptick in inflammation has anything to do with the food supply, no that can't be it, the answer is we need medicine.

Sure

WINNER within $10!

Dang...okay, those proteins must have been even higher than I thought.

Proteins are what kill you on grocery bills. You can still find the loss leading fruits and veg and live with them, but there are few loss leader proteins, and fewer that are desired and/or healthy options for most consumers (I mean, you can make full proteins from beans and rice day after day, but your kids (and your digestive system) will rebel if that's the new normal)...

Strip steaks.

Not all our meals are pricey, I am also very at ease with potatoes and eggs or soups and repurposing leftovers. I made chicken soup the other night with leftovers from a roast chicken, made chicken salad (mayo and broth in a blender) with the meat starting to get a bit dry so the $11 chicken was 3 meals for 4.

I guess this time I just needed to restock and got some sticker shock.

Well, at least a lot of that is healthy and you can make home-cooked meals. Lower medical bills in the future, maybe? I hear you on the groceries, though.
