Buying Aulani

Ok phew I can finally talk about this.

So I made an offer on one of the AULs just after AstroBlasters had his accepted and was told the seller would only take $125. Then, lorie13 made her offer which was also accepted at $120. Then the seller raised the price to $135. I made an offer at $120 and what I am told is: my agent called the seller who said that I was "too late", that I should have offered $120 earlier (um okay), my agent said "come on now, be reasonable" and the seller grumbled, and then accepted. I don't know if any of that is really true but I don't really care too much either, as it's off to ROFR now. I can't complain with the fully loaded/double loaded contract.
I’m so jelly of all these loaded sub dues contracts going for 120. I paid more last year and mine wasn’t fully loaded :( My small consolation prize is I got to use the points for a trip this upcoming May which is for our wedding and then also got to use them on another trip with the new in laws for another trip in September although idk if that second trip should be considered a positive.. 😂

The fully loaded was a very nice perk, I'm treating it like my very own "magical beginnings" which I don't qualify for anyway as a Canadian. I think getting married at Aulani would be amazing, congrats! Not too sure about the travel with in-laws. I've been married for almost two decades and still not 100% sure about travel with in-laws LOL

We were in a GV this summer with my in-laws (married 17 years) and we had a nice time.

They are not travelers and were blown away by the resort and were amazed to have their own bedroom with on-suite bathroom.

Direct quote “I can see why you guys do so much Disney stuff now….”

On our last day at AUL just a few days ago, I said bye Aulani. See you in Jan! Hubs said that seems so far away. Need to come back later this year.
OK, I said. Let me work some magic! Now we are looking at two trips a year (doable using WDW points) so I said I need to buy more points for our Jun UY (a small contract there I use to gift brother with a week long trip every couple of years for his bday) for our fall trips.
Was looking at Dec to add to our Jan/Feb trip but now I need a good contract to pop up for Jun 😇🙏

Edited to add that I was tempted to add on direct since they had an additional on-site incentive. Since we have plenty of direct points already, just couldn’t see the benefit of spending an additional ~$60 per point over resale.

We have 200 direct AUL points. For us the benefits were:

1) Instant loading of points to book a trip
2) DVC-Y 10% discounts on food/merch
3) Bucket of points to use at resale restricted resorts (VDH, future EPCOT resort or associations, Disneyland Forward DVC)
4) “Little extras” like free popcorn refills, lounges, etc. They seem small… but if we might own this thing for 3+ decades then it would be annoying to never have them.

So…. if we already had DVC-Y then direct never would have been a conversation. But, we’ve already used those points to stay at VDH and attend the Aulani DVC-Y events like Sushi and Sake/ Bubbly and Macarons. My kids LOVE getting the free popcorn. We’ve been up to Star View Station multiple times to put our feet up and grab a drink/snacks….

Won’t be worth it for all…. but I’m definitely happy being #TeamHybrid

Oh I agree there are reasons for direct. We bought direct first back in 2016 at PVB and VGF, and VDH last year. And plenty of resale in 2016. 😅😅
Teehee we brought our popcorn bucket with us too! Hubs asked why but he ate most of the free popcorn regardless 🤣🤣

Yeah…. the in your case I would load up on the inexpensive resale points…. because Aulani rooms are point hogs!

What is another UY, I now have 5...
I have 2: one for WDW, and one for Aulani, and they are offset by 3 months. I did this deliberately. That way I never feel tempted to transfer points from one to the other. If I need more points, I just buy more. There are ALWAYS points available in every UY on the resale market (or at worst, a very short wait for the size and price you want), so I have had no problem keeping with my 2 UY plan (and we own just shy of 1,000 points).
