Major competition coming for the Disney Wish?

Just watch a 40-45 minute informational video on You Tube about Royal Caribbean's Utopia of the Seas. Wow! Impressive is what I thought, but then they said it will be doing 3/4 cruises only out of Port Canaveral and how unusual that is. Looks like the Wish is going to have some serious competition there.

What do you think? Will Disney have to compete pricing wise to draw folks away from possibly the best ship in Port Canaveral?

I can wait to sail the Wish until it’s not the new hotness and it is sailing more interesting itineraries. But the mega ships don’t appeal to me even slightly. Hopefully they’re going away from the lack of external views that I’ve seen on other Royal oasis-class ships, because I can’t imagine wanting to be on a ship where I could easily forget I’m even at sea.

Not sure why they said the 3/4 cruises out of PC are unusual, RC, Norwegian and Carnival have been doing them forever. The way the passenger counts have been increasing at PC there's plenty of business to go around for all of the cruise lines, this new inventory won't have any impact on pricing.

I believe it is the busiest cruise port in the U.S. Been decades since I cruised on RCCL and loved them, but this will have zero impact on Disney.

It's because Royal's usual M.O. is to put the new ships out on 7 night trips.

But in this case, they're trying to entice net new cruisers with the fancy new ship, Coco Cay, shorter time investment and the lower price that comes with shorter cruises. Get them hooked and ready to buy another cruise. Seems like a smart strategy.

I think they meant with a brand new, over the top ship that this will be.

Disney can just about make it as expensive as they want because most die hard Disney fans will have no problem paying up. I've always said that Disney could sell dirt in a bag for $20 and people would buy it just because the Disney logo is on it.
I don't think that it is always "die hard" Disney fans. I sail with DCL because there is no casino, which means no smoking at all indoors. I am allergic and the cruises that allow smoking indoors makes it very difficult to avoid the smell. Contrary to what some think, the smoke does not just stay inside of the casino but spreads quite a distance away. And since most casinos are near the atrium, where you have to pass through, it pretty much forces everyone to smell it.
To those who are not sensitive to it, it is no big deal. But to someone who gets and immediate allergic reaction to it, it is a big deal. That is why I sail with DCL. I would gladly sail other cruise lines if they eliminated all indoor smoking and only allowed it in one section of the ship.
I sailed once on a Celebrity ship and there were people smoking all over the place on deck. It was miserable.

Yeah that's very fair. I have no problem paying up for the Disney service but I'm also not against other lines for their prices.

I could definitely understand the casino issue though. On NCL it was the same way. It didn't bother me too much but it did take some time to adjust.

I’m not allergic, but my husband and I are both very sensitive to smoke smell, and this would ruin our time 😕 so to me, that’s a very persuasive argument in DCL’s favor

We just did a RCCL the other week with my daughters dance studio (the only reason we tried it, she got to dance in the main theater) and while enjoyed it and found many pros, the smoke was a def con. Tried to do trivia one night and the lounge was jut outside the casino and it just stunk of smoke. There was a whole side of the ship on two of the outside decks that stunk because you could smoke there too. The ship we were on didn't really have an atrium and thankfully in the promenade you couldn't smell it, it was below it but I was surprised that spot was good.

I do wish DCL would try and do other things, the kids splash pad on RCCL beat out the kids areas on DCL by far. But aqua duck was better than the body slides on RCCL.

We did Wonder of the Seas last year and the casino was so close to the MDR, we could still smell the cigarette smoke from our dining room table. That was a first. 😂

I too am allergic to cigarette smoke. The whole frickin outdoors smells of it now. Celebrity does not have smoking in their casinos. They just have the designated areas, like DCL. Very pleasant.

Oh yuck! We were on independence of the seas and no issues with smelling it from dining table. I was just shocked how many areas you could smoke vs Disney.
