I believe the forest fire in Jackson, NJ is now adding on to what we were already expecting from Canada, which is why things got demonstrably worse yesterday. I'm in SJ near Philly and it's somewhat unbelievable how much smoke we're experiencing.
also from SJ near philly. i haven't been outside yesterday or today, but my hubby drives for NJ Transit and he was saying how bad AC was last night.

In DC area today we went from orange to red and schools canceled all outdoor and after-school activities.
My DS lives in NJ and his office just sent people home. He was sending pics of the yellow-orange streets. We look smoky but not like that.

Stay safe everyone!

Off topic but many of us are in this Canadian smoke mess and it's getting pretty orange outside again in Bridgewater, NJ.
www.airnow.gov will show you current air quality conditions.
Stay safe!
I'm not trying to take away the seriousness of this problem, but so many East Coast news outlets are making this sound like some kind of major disaster and serious health risk.

But this happens, literally, every summer in the inland West. Right now, New York's AQI is at 160. But in September 2020, Spokane, WA's AQI hit 499 (out of 500).

Around 1:00 pm, NYC's AQI was 404

That is helpful. I was wondering about that as I know there are some that are not allowed. I believe Allears.net is also used but a lot of times it's the same as DFB.

I don't think any are not allowed anymore. One was for a while when they were getting a bit sensational, but they kind of backed off from that and are okay now. DIS would prefer of course that you use thier news when possible, but they aren't quite as prolific in posting as many of the others are.

You know the PNW doesn't matter to the media or others really. I'm just glad we don't have any fires in our state yet (at least nothing I've heard about except a few freeway shoulder brush fires).

To be fair, the number of people impacted is so many degrees higher given the populations of the NYC and Philly metro areas.

I'd also assume a much higher proportion of that population uses walking and/or public transit to get around, so they have to expose themselves to it for a much longer time through their commutes.
