I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

Got emails from charles schwab today and am guessing my bank acct was approved. I can't login. I've tried 2 browsers and it says temp unavailable but I get an email about logging in from an unknown device. Been this way for hours. Hopefully it works tomorrow. I don't want to have to call when the account was basically just created, this isn't making me want to keep using it.

Eta - tried online chat who told me I had to call the number that was listed on the site after temp unavailable message if it was urgent. Which it isn't. So I call and she can't help me either. Apparently something with the soft pull put it on hold but it's approved now but only a number that's open 8a to 5p est (clearly not caring about those of us in pst, alaska or hawaii) to get the hold released.

For all the good I've heard I'm really bot impressed with this customer service. It's not temp unavailable, if it was it would come back without my having to jump through the communication hoops when they should have said hey you're approved but we need to call this number for security reasons so you have access. Which I'm sure I'll do in the morning but the knee jerk reaction is to close it. If this is how it is without money no way I trust them with issues once they have my money. All I want to do is use them for their free checking and atms but maybe I will only put 5 bucks in until closer to my trip instead of the 1500 I was going to.

Landed safely and on time in Frankfurt. Wishing that I had booked a flight to Brussels, but I was nervous about making a connection. So I’m sitting in the airport terminal waiting to walk to the train station (in the airport) in an hour or so. Oh well.

I was super impressed with my AA flight here. I was annoyed with myself for not checking the seat map carefully since I inadvertently placed myself sitting backwards, facing the man across the aisle, who was facing forward. Turns that it didn’t bother me once we were in the air, but I will be more careful next time.

Food was excellent. Starter was slices of cold chicken with a delicious sauce -- it was yummy. I had pre-ordered the fish with mashed potatoes and carrots. I was a bit worried about the fish because it has to be cooked just right, but AA nailed it and it was surprisingly good! The FA assured me that it was good and she was right! I declined dessert, which I usually do on overnight flights.

I had washed my face and changed into my Lululemon studio pants in the Centurion lounge before the flight, so all I needed to do was change into my pj shirt and brush my teeth before trying to get some shut eye. Probably the best part of the flight for me was that AA keeps the cabin at 67 degrees and they have air nozzles at each seat (ahem, Lufthansa take note). I slept surprisingly well thanks to the nice and chilly cabin! The smell of cinnamon wafting through the air woke me up; I was able to change into my jeans and top, wash my face, brush my teeth and try to make myself presentable before breakfast (frittata with sweet potato hash and 2 small cinnamon bread rolls — all good!).

I give AA a 10/10 on all fronts on the flight. I’d fly this over Lufthansa first class moving forward (until Lufthansa puts out their new first class product some time in 2024 with temp control in each first class seat and privacy suites). My opinion is probably jaded by the fact that I only paid $360 plus tax for the flight (basic economy fare, then immediately applied 1 of dh’s SWUs to upgrade myself to biz class). So glad that I secured another economy fare + SWU to biz in October to get myself to Heathrow, then used AC points for a biz class flight to Florence on Lufthansa.

Also shout out to the amazing AA crew. The FA looking after my seat was super nice and dinner service was quick, but not overly so! The crew also kept the bathrooms very clean. I can’t believe how quickly the flight flew by!

Well still sitting at Gold on my Caesar's acct. GRRR. Of course the BF throws at me this morning, wanna go to Vegas tomorrow? HA! I'm kinda holding onto hope Michigan wins tonight. When they secured the spot in the Frozen Four I should have booked the tickets. My BF was ready to do it. Of course now (thanks to Michigan fans) prices are insane. So I held off on going to the game tonight. If they win tonight, I'll need to race to get tickets to Saturday night. Then I'll likely take the kids down to Tampa tomorrow for the weekend and the game ;) There's a Hyatt that still has availability I'll book. My hope is that the losing team fans will dump more tickets into the pot. We'll see. They used to force you to buy the frozen four and the finals. I think they sell that option plus single game. So I guess this weekend I'll either be in Tampa or Vegas. Time will tell, LOL.

I'm also scared to get stuck in FL or Vegas this weekend, as I have my eval for the year on Monday, LOL. That will be my luck of course!

We did this - purchased the Ibonds as a HS graduation gift when she was 17 and then had to transfer to her newly created account when she turned 18. We didn't try to set up her Treasury Direct Account with my bank account, so I don't know if it's possible or not. But, she did have to go through some steps to verify her bank account with the government. She had to have the bank sign a document, which then had to be mailed in. We were both a little annoyed, but it was a good lesson for her that sometimes you have to do annoying things to get your money! :)
It's the bank account that worries me though. Since I don't know if she'll keep her HS account forever, or if they convert it to an "adult" account. I guess I'll look into it. UGH.

Who do you use for home/auto insurance and do they take credit cards? Our USAA home policy increased $1,100 this year. I need to see if there are better options out there, but I want to make sure they take credit cards.

Wouldn't recommend Allstate. They take credit cards BUT they don't give you autopay discount with credit cards. So that adds on like $100 to use a credit card on our auto policy, and another $70 to use a credit card on our homeowners. So we just do direct debit. Ours also went up this year. Not by $1100, but it did go up.

I got the same message this morning for my account, but it is working right now. I was able to get right into my DH's account this morning. I am wondering if it has to do with the verification codes? I didn't have to have one for my DH's account since I log into his account more often. Hope you are able to get in soon!

Nope. I got emails about my login every time.

I closed the account. It wasn't approved and the only way for them to review it was to unfreeze my chex and equifax for 5 days because it's a manual review. 1 I'm not leaving anything unfrozen for that long. 2 I'm not interested in a place that can't tell me this is the reason from the start, though there is a letter coming in the mail. Which doesn't help when the emails are saying I'm good and to log in.

I have no problem unfreezing stuff but should be able to call in and have it ran and then be done with it not leave it open for days. But what irritates me more is the total lack of communication and the hoops I felt like I had to jump through just to find out the issue. Also annoying because everything I read said it was just a soft pull so I'll go leave an update on the Doc comments.

Guess I'm back to using my cu ATM card in Japan and just paying some of the fees since they don't refund them all. Oh well.

Oh man! I’m really sorry you had this experience. Schwab really dropped the ball on this one. When I was researching Costa Rica I came across some information about other banks that reimburse ATM fees. Fidelity perhaps. I apologize I don’t know more, but I think there’s more than just Schwab. I’m sure you’re frustrated with it all, but could be worth a look.

My CU reimburses up to 3 bucks a month and doesn't have foreign fees. I may just get some yen before I go to help limit my atm withdrawls.

I just liked the idea of using a card that wasn't tied to my bank acct and having my bank as a back up I could leave in the room. If other banks take their sweet time to determine stuff I'll just end up back where I'm at.

Maybe I'll see what the other local CUs do since sometimes they have bonuses for new accounts and I could potentially just go in and open it.

What state are you in?

For anyone in VA, Mutual Assurance Society of Virginia is phenomenal. I pay about 0.1% of my replacement cost as an annual premium. For auto I switched to Liberty Mutual from Geico--I know Geico takes credit cards. I'm confused about Liberty Mutual (they take them but I couldn't figure out the surcharge to use a card). They did take my Visa debit cards.

I'm using AAA and they take credit cards :) I have my auto set as a monthly pull from my Hilton Surpass, and my homeowners I throw on whatever card I'm trying to hit a spend on in Jan, LOL.

You can update your bank account info on the Treasury Direct website. I think you only have to do that when you are ready to buy more funds using payment from said bank account, or redeem the bonds you have into the bank account. When you update your bank account, I don't think the verification process always requires that form rigamorole - I know I didn't have to do that when I set up my account.

I'm not sure if anyone shared this info here, but AF/KLM is now charging for seat assignments in biz.

I found out because they canceled our flight, moved us to another one and assigned us seats I don't love. Tried to move us and they want 90 Euros pp so I guess we are just going to stay put.

This is not a good change. :(

I have purchased this policy for my parents in the past. No complaints but we have never had to make a claim.

The max days on one trip is 45 days though so, it wouldn't work for this year. I purchased a policy through Insure My Trip for them this time. As long as a portion of their trip was a cruise, they qualify. Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company Luxury Cruise.
45 days i wish longest trips we take are 10 days I still have to work :)
