Terrible food at Disneyland this week

I'm at the park now. I had a disappointing lunch at Carnation--the potato soup was not even warm. A truly inedible dinner at Blue Bayou of a very fatty prime rib ($89 Fantasmic package). Dinner for 6 at Goofy's Kitchen was better, but was not worth $409.

I cancelled tomorrow's Wine Country Trattoria and Thursday's Cafe Orleans.

That was our experience earlier this year. There has been a big decline in quality. Even old favorites were terrible. Blue Bayou is a joke now. It used to be a respectable overpriced meal. Now it's not even an ok overpriced meal.

My sister and I had some disappointing meals at DLR this Dec. also. We did a lot of eating and we have gone to the same places for years so we know what it used to be compared to what it is currently, and it's a definite downgrade in the sit-down restaurants.

We actually really liked Blue Bayou still--but we get the Monte Cristo and still find it yummy although there has been a drastic reduction in size since the pre-C days.

Napa Rose had some meh food--some of it not hot, some of it not the same high quality. Service was also poor there. The same was true of Club 33, which was the biggest surprise. We were VERY disappointed in both of those meals, especially when it's such a splurge. I'm fine with the high price if you get an exceptional meal and service. At least with Club 33 you still get an exceptional experience. Napa Rose has lost my business due to poor service on our last 3 visits topped off by disappointing food the last 2.

Carthay Circle restaurant (not lounge, which we didn't visit) was excellent. Magic Key and Trader Sam's were good, but those were casual tapas-type meals.

On a side-note, there has been a dramatic wipe-out of most of the high-quality treats. Most of what's left is the lower-quality items that are cheap to make. I hope this is not a permanent change!

I love sit-down dining, but the quality decline with a concurrent price increase is very disappointing.

You chose poorly. Stick with CS at DLR. Only do the sit down restaurants at the Grand Californian or Downtown Disney.

Good move to cancel those 2. You would have continued to be disappointed.

I have to echo this unfortunately and it pains me to say that about Carnation Cafe but it's very true.
Blue Bayou hurts the most because I have so many good memories of meals there but absolutely vote with my wallet and there will have to be overhwmeling massive feedback from people I trust , not vloggers for me to return. And I have tried to go back at least three times since reopening.
Goofy's kitchen has always been fine for me , I do like the selection but you're always paying a premium for the character meal so going to the first reservation for the meal period is best.

Counter service at DLR is superior honestly and best meal I had recently for table service was at Magic Key Terrace where I had the (massive) Charcueterie board for $18 felt like a steal and coming from wine country/ sonoma area where meats and cheeses are high quality , was a hidden gem.

Especially during festival seasons you do better by getting a Sip n Savor pass and just grazing the menus if at DCA especially.

We had a very nice meal at Blue Bayou in November.

We have dined plenty of times at CC for lunch in the past and it was very good. We ate there the second week of this month. We both ordered the same thing. The potato soup was lukewarm at best and the turkey club sandwich felt like it had been pre made and pulled out of the fridge. Not good.
As far as the food offered at CS in the parks…..we have found most of it to be unremarkable and lacking of taste. 🤮🤮

I had the same experience at Napa Rose. It's essentially like a steakhouse now where everything is priced separately. My friend had the Vintner's meal (4 courses @ $125) and they couldn't cook her meat the way she requested, even after replacing her entree. My appetizer - one scallop - was $26. (I got four scallops with my pasta on a recent Disney cruise that were almost the same size, which made me laugh). My entree had no sides - it looked pretty and tasted good - but no vegetables to go with it. I cannot recommend Napa any longer based on my past experience. Our service was extremely slow, and our server forgot a few things, including the simple dessert I requested (at least, they didn't charge for it). I expect more at those prices.

This really mirrors what we experienced as well. I mean, I almost laughed when I saw that scallop, but then I remembered the price :D

I was gonna make an ADR for Carnation Cafe because it was so good when we ate there a few years ago but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't. I have to be honest I have heard so much about how much better Disneyland's food is than Disney World but when we went this past April I didn't find that to be true.

$26 for a scallop? Highway robbery. That is absolutely ridiculous pricing.

On our trip in November we got pretty good food everywhere. Didn't do a lot of sit down meals (just Blue Bayou which was actually very good). Got Flo's V-8 diner a couple times and both times were good. Ate some pasta at Alien Pizza Planet which was also good (I wouldn't eat their pizza - and I noticed they shrunk the size of the slices drastically since they used to actually be big).

Like WDW, there are good and bad places to eat. Unfortunately, for some reason, the bad places at DLR are the ones most coveted. I mean, Blue Bayou hasn't been good for around 20 years. But people STILL consider it a "must do." And a lot of the places that get a lot of flack online are actually the hidden gems. Places like Alien Pizza Planet make fantastic pasta and salads. The pizza is basic, but the other things are outstanding (beating out Wine Country Trattoria, for example).

Some places are also more likely to be visited due to foot traffic. French Market is one of these. People end up there because it is in a heavily trafficked area, but it's not very good at all.

You can get consistently good meals at several counter service restaurants that are far better than the food at every single table service restaurant in both parks.

The pizza may not have ever been anything to write home about (agreed), but at least the slices used to be big. They are stupid small now and ridiculously overpriced for such bitty things.

Yes, they are. We go to Napolini for pizza, mostly. Or Wetzels for a pepperoni twist. Better value and more filling.

I've had good luck with lunch at Carnation, even as recent as a few weeks ago. (I love that patty melt so much.) But I have heard mixed reviews about breakfast there in recent months, so your mileage may vary.
