What did you spend a lot of money on that you ended up hating?

All of the appliances in my home! We did a ton of research, spent a lot of money, and we've had nothing but problems. And I have Maytag and Whirlpool. I finally got tired of it and just ordered myself a set of Speed Queen washer and dryer.

I feel your pain. I absolutely HATE my new fridge, and I'm also not in love with the new dishwasher. I am >>this close<< to listing them on FB for a fraction of what I paid for them, just to get rid of them.

A fancy hot tub. Hardly used it, spent more time cleaning it, and felt like the neighbors were staring down at us.

Thankfully, sold it to a dealer and didn't lose too much.

Speed Queen washer and dryer.

I've got my eyes on a pair of them once my current ones give up the Ghost in the not to distant future!

As far as the original question - I don't think I've bought anything that I've spent a lot of $$$ on that I hated. There are things I guess I wished I hadn't spent the money on, but not hated.

Geez...I'll need a few posts to list them all - lol. But top of mind:

A new car that cost too much, wasn't well made, despite good reviews at the time, and depreciated far too quickly compared to other models - mainly because of the poor reliability. Poor purchase.

A Kenmore branded fridge that I thought was whirpool made and got great reviews by consumer reports and a bunch of other pubs/websites, but was actually LG and had several major defects. Big waste of money. Never ever buy an LG fridge!

I've over-researched everything I've bought - sometimes that research pays off...and other times... :sad2: :badpc:

We have one of those Kenmore fridges made by LG. The ice maker broke and the water connection leaked another time and damaged my kitchen floor. However, it replaced a Montgomery Wards fridge made by Whirlpool that had the exact same issue. The Independent repairman who fixed the Kenmore said all brands have problems with the ice makers and water lines, so our next fridge won't have an ice maker.]

I always read reviews of cars like Consumer Reports does. Their stats on repairs are helpful, but seems that their testers have odd tastes in features on cars. Several cars I have purchased had features they gave bad marks for, and after owning those cars for years, those features all seemed to be very useful.

We’ve had an LG fridge for over 10 years now and have never had any issues with it.

Honestly, my last WDW trip this last September. It's not that it wasn't fun in some ways, but it was deadly hot and things were breaking down, and my sister and I were no spring chickens anymore we found out *reallllll* fast when we had to do all the walking. We did some things that were so much fun (Guardians of the Galaxy, Rise), but it didn't outweigh the heat and crowds and the general realization that we weren't feeling it. Very sad, because we love WDW. We're continuing our Sisters' Trips, but now we're weighing other places to go. We think we'll be taking a cruise in 2024.

We bought a house in the height of the bubble in 2005. Hate is a strong word, but we VERY MUCH disliked or neighbors. We moved several years later after the bubble burst = but it was a loss we were willing to take.

What did you dislike about them?

I hate my expensive stove (Thermador). I should have gotten the one I really wanted (Wolf), but I picked the less expensive option.

They ran an illegal daycare causing a lot of traffic. I'm not talking about someone keeping a few kids. It was a full fledged school. We tried to talk to them about people who were parking across our driveway (literally) and it just made it worse. A bunch of things happened and the best thing we could do was to move to another neighborhood. We lost about $50000 but it was money well lost lol. I know many lost way more than that in the housing crises.

you're lucky. Google LG fridge reliability - there have been several class action lawsuits - with a couple winning, as the company has a proven track record of hiding major defects and knowingly selling bad units.

Unfortunately my unit wasn't included in the suit because it was made for Sears under the "Kenmore" brand name and somehow the class action lawyers let LG weasel out of that obligation, only covering damages on their own branded units.

The entire sealed cooling system (compressor and other parts) died TWICE in first 4 years - first time covered by warranty. Second time, I paid Sears $150 for an estimate - nearly $1000 with parts and labor! When I called around to other shops, none would even estimate. They refused to work on LG because they couldn't get parts for 4-6 months and told me it would just break again as there was a known design defect and to avoid LG in future. Neither LG nor Sears would help.

I just trashed the unit as I needed a fridge and wasn't about to pay another $1k to fix.

Their reviews crack me up. They will rave about a car one year, then trash the very same year/brand the next. I bought one car after reading their positive reviews - next year it was rated poorly with advice to avoid. I still have the car - it's fine so far, knock on wood.

I've been trying very hard to deny that I truly dislike the main paint colour we chose for our recent re-furb. It's not exactly an off-tint to the original chip; it just looks very different in such large swaths with various lighting situations. We had it professionally done ($$$) and aren't up to re-doing it ourselves so I guess I'll just keep pretending it's not awful and that I don't get a little bit sad if I think about it too long. :( It is definitely a situation though where I wouldn't be nearly so unhappy with it if it hadn't cost so much.
