Gotta be honest.... Not my best trip

Oh, that is something I didn't even bring up but will now. World of Disney in DTD... You can enter from the East, but you can only leave via the West. Seriously. It is now a literal funnel. I was going to press the issue as I was PISSED, but my wife talked me out of a confrontation with a CM over my ability to LEAVE A BUILDING. FFS. GARBAGE.
If I could go to Tokyo DL/Disney Sea, I would do it in a heartbeat. The Oriental Land Company who runs them KNOWS what customer service means.
The idea of one-way store traffic might have come from Tokyo DL, I experienced it there (4 years ago)

Let's just say I am Disney Done! Unless you plan on paying for extras that were included prior to the shutdown, and doing Mobile Ordering for food it's just not worth it. Paying for almost anything with cash is almost obsolete.
so be it then...will take my cash carrying self to other points beyond...

The entire world is moving away from using cash. Good luck.

I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience! :-(
So much thought and planning is put into each trip plus you hadn't been in awhile so that makes it harder.

We had a much different experience in August. It was our first time back in 4 long years. We had a taken a break prior to Covid, then Covid forced us out longer. Anyway, August was magical. Not so much for my husband, but he had his own personal issues (prosthetic issues and getting over Covid).

I wanted to share my Early Entry experience. It was Wednesday August 10th, so two days after the premier of the new Early Entry. Here's how it went for me, I was solo on this morning.

0703 In line at gates, 3rd from front
0727 walking in down Main Street
0731 walking through Sleeping Beautys castle into Fantasyland
0734 boarding Peter Pan
0738 boarding Mr Toad
0745 on Dumbo
0749 boarding Alice
0758 Boarding Peter Pan (looking back at a still empty queue)

0802 the park is officially open and the queue for Peter Pan is massive!

0804 Snow White
0807 Pinocchio
0818 Storybook Land canal boat ride
0824 on King Arthurs Carrousel
0828 mr toad
0847 Nemo
0931 sitting for breakfast at Jolly Holiday Bakery
0952 on a boat at Pirates
1050 (i must have done something in between?) on Winnie The Pooh
1109 Boarding the Railroad

Nowadays, Security doesn't open up till 7, so you can barely get through the lines which stretch all the way back to Paradise Pier Hotel from the DLH entrance even if you line up at 630. We BARELY made it to our EMHH entry point prior to 7:30 (7:29 was my earliest arrival, with the others being after 7:30 by a few minutes) at the back of a sizeable group next to hundreds and hundreds of non-EMHH people who would soon flood the park.

I meant physical cash. Venmo and Zelle are king for person to person payments. I haven't exchanged physical cash with anyone in a long, long time.
I think it depends on where you are. When I was in Japan, the majority of places I went to only accepted cash. In the US, I would tend to agree.

I keep cash on hand at all times. I had $2000 with me just going to DL. Always need to be prepared. I try to pay most tips in cash so the servers don't get penalized. The corps get the CC. The workers get cash.

Wow. I would never carry that much cash with me outside of Vegas. 😆

I withdraw $100 every 3 months or so and it only gets used when my son's randomly need to bring cash to school for something.

I literally never have cash on me. It's never caused a problem. Servers get their tips when you pay on a credit card too.

Thanks for reporting on your trip, @whover Matt. I've been reading and enjoying your trip reports for years and wondered if you'd be able to carve out a good trip.
We don't go anymore, because it seems that the way things are structured, no amount of expenditure will assure a good day -- especially for those of us with motion sickness who like to repeat a limited number of attractions. Dining used to be big for us, too, but that's so watered down....just not worth it.

We feel the loss. While doing lots of other things these days, nothing takes the place of that feeling of anticipation, knowing that a day at DL will be a day of joy.
I can't see things improving though. Too much money to be made with use of the new technologies, the ability to consolidate the guests and cut labor and operation costs that way. Sigh

$1k of that was for an exchange that didn't end up happening, but I nearly ALWAYS tip in cash. Servers need every chance in the world to get ahead. Mousekeeping got $80, gave another $150 between bell services and valet. Always gotta have cash and in the event machines are down, gotta have the ability to pay.

Michael Bowling (Connecting With Walt, for those of you that listen to the show) is coming out in December, and we're going to the parks on 2-3-4 December. This is the first holiday season I'm not looking forward to it. It's sad.

There is a lot of doom and gloom, but we haven't had these terrible experiences this month. We have had 2 wonderful Holiday Time visits already. Hope you guys have a great time!

Mary Jo, why do you say that? You are pretty positive and also you seem to enjoy the little things (not overly ride ride rides), what has you down?

Mary Jo, I sincerely hope your trip is the exact opposite of mine. In 12 years of back to back to back multiple trips per year, this was my first time I've felt ripped off. I've always been a fan and always highlight the positives as well as the negatives, but this trip seriously made me question DLR as my premiere destination to visit. The Hotel and hotel staff were AMAZING (I mean staying at the DLH should be). The Front-Line CMs AMAZING. The status of the park and the current procedures left me so jaded. I'm not easily tricked, but when I am I call it out. I'm used to the PREMIUM experience for the PREMIUM PRICE. I'll GLADLY pay it as my vacations these days are few and far between. I got lackluster experience for the Premium however. I mean how much more do I need to spend per day? I can't afford a VIP tour... That seems to be the only way to experience anything remotely close to my previous experiences. I left DLR exhausted and underwhelmed vs. my previous trips being relaxed and excited to book my next. FIRST time I've gotten blisters on my feet as well. Due to ping-ponging East to West all over each park because everything was down. Just walking is all I felt I did. Outside of my ADRs, I seldom got to sit down because oh wait this is now open... trek across the park only to find it 101 again. This isn't how Matt vacations...
