Hurricane Ian - WDW Resorts Related Updates, Planning & Discussion

CMs have gone above and beyond at Boardwalk. The CMS really are putting on a brave face. I’m hoping none of them are sleeping on concrete. That’s awful. I had asked earlier while in a group of CMs and they said they’re all in rooms here. I’ve complimented everyone for their hard work and sent in a compliment. Housekeeping was in the hallway and helped me with my wet towel from my door so I tipped her and thanked her for being here. My daughter has found a CM friend and everytime they see each other they shout out to each other by name. This will be something special that she remembers. I’ve been lacking in the Disney magic area lately, but this is the Disney difference. I’ve been fortunate enough to see it again.

Glad to hear that the people reporting on this thread saw no power outages at the WDW hotels. Out of curiosity, does anyone here know what backup capacity Disney has in case main power does go down?

Yes. I'm local. I know a cast member who rode out a previous hurricane and left her husband and kids at home in a storm to work it. Her designated sleeping spot was a concrete floor. She told me that guests were impatient, rude, and she would never sign up to work a hurricane crew again.
My DD is on the current ride out crew. She and co-workers are being housed in resort hotel rooms (shared/full room occupancy). They are being fed buffet style with "excellent food" from Catering. She has reported positive guest interaction.

Osceola too, and they are very very hard hit by flooding.
YES! I actually meant Osceola, not Seminole. 🙃

Just saw a post elsewhere that Kissimmee (parts under water) Osceola Hospital is pretty much getting surrounded by flood waters as of an hour go.

What does this mean? That no one can check-in until after the 2nd, or that no one can make a new reservation?

We are scheduled to check-in on October 3rd to Coronado Springs. A little worried that the date could change again if it means no check-in!
I believe it means they are not accepting new reservations.

I'll start by saying I'm super grateful for how safe and secure we felt throughout this process. I also can't say enough to express how appreciative I am for the cast, especially at Artist Pallette.

Having said that, SSR management really dropped the ball in terms of communications and expectations. Housekeeping came knocking at 10am to remind us that check out is at 11am. After getting nothing, not a text or email or call, from SSR, and the only official comms coming from Disney so urging folks to stay in their room, that was annoying. I then call front desk, wait on hold for an hour, to get clarification on what their expectation was. They could not tell me and said a manager would call me back. Nearly another hour goes by. We get a call from the manager who confirms that, yes, it's time to go. I told them we're packed and if it's safe to travel on the road then we'll just need a bell cart for our stuff and be on our way. That was 45 minutes ago. Housekeeping comes a knocking again - I let them know I'm waiting for bell services. I then call bell services to get an ETA, and the manager never put in the request, so we're just now in the queue.

We're generally pretty chill. Didn't want to bug anyone yesterday when they were trying to deal with me urgent matters. But some basic communication, to guests, between each other, was sorely lacking. Still in our room, ready to go.

So any one looked at park reservations for tomorrow or Saturday? All blocked out for new ones and modifications. Sadly, that tells me both days’ availability remain in limbo. If you can grab one now, good luck!

Right now I am seeing all 4 parks available for reservations on Saturday.

I think it's interesting how the flooding is very localized. In one area, people are reporting it's just fine whereas a few streets over, it could be total devastation.

In larger cities, it is typically like this. It floods frequently in all of the places I have lived in Texas. Sometimes you won’t even see standing water outside your house in the street. However, 2 miles away, houses can be under 6ft+ of water and utterly destroyed. It’s worse in places with low water tables and swamps. Development makes it worse too, because it often increases the amount of impervious cover, preventing water from absorbing into the ground.

Seems most of the flooding was near universal-the wind blew a section of the wall off Jurassic Park River Adventure

I think the park and hotels don’t have as much flooding, at least from what resort guests are posting. However, the roads around it are supposedly flooding. With the ponds at UO being so large and close to the resorts/City Walk, I wouldn’t be surprised if that has risen a decent amount. You can see the flood plain they allow around Hard Rock Hotel. Even when it rains, anything off pavement at Hard Rock gets pretty muddy.

I have scanned thru the thread and have not seen any reports from people at any of the All Stars Resorts. We checked out of there early to fly home before the storm hit. We would have been in a first floor ASMu room if we had stayed. Anyone have update on what happened in that area???
They have housed emergency personnel in All Stars in the past. Wouldn't be surprising if they are doing that now.

If a Disney resort had taken real damage, we would know by now. Instead, we've got the Boardwalk is wet and Contemporary lost some trim pieces.

All is well at the Swan, it's just cold and breezy outside (and I didn't pack pants!). We had a great lunch at The Fountain, BlueZoo has also opened as a buffet for $20.

Our home was spared, so we are feeling incredibly lucky right now.

That's fantastic. Unfortunately my friend's experience was not the same and was during a previous hurricane. Hopefully they learned from their mistakes. And yes, she really did sleep on concrete.
