Princess Weekend 2023 (Feb 23-26, 2023)

Can anyone remind me the date for POT submissions? And what we think the cut points might be for a 10k or 10 miler?

POT window is Jan 1st 2019 through Nov 1st 2022. No changes after Nov 1st 2022.

Estimated cutoffs. The bottom table is relevant for Princess Weekend.

Thank you @DopeyBadger!!

Any reactions to a POT for a 10 miler of 1:42:14? Use it? Or try for something faster?

ETA: never mind! Just realized I’ve also got a 1:40:24 10-miler I can use! Yay!

Princess Weekend Goals

Hey Royals!

Now that registration is out of the way for us, I'd love to hear your goals for Princess Weekend. Here's how I see goals. They're personal. You chose it because that goal means something to you. It's important to you. Which means your goal is important to me. No goal is too big or too small. The person's goal to finish their first 5K and another's to take down Disney World HM Record are equally important to me. So, I'd love to hear yours. And yes, even the super secret I don't want to admit it goals. :goodvibes Full disclosure, I am saving your responses to be revealed at a later time closer to race day.

Here are some ideas if you haven't thought about it:

Finish my first: 5K, 10K, Half, Challenge
Finish with a time goal
Run a race with a family member
Overcome an adversity in your life
Parking lot Beer!
Beat a family member
Get as many character photos as possible
Get a character photo with a certain character
Do lots of park time and enjoy the races
Have fun
Run a World Record
Run a PB
Wear a certain character outfit

So, let's hear them! What's your goal? Remember yesterday you signed up for a race/yoga during princess weekend for a reason, so what is it?

My goals
-Fulfill my daughter's imagination on her Ms. Marvel costume. She had so much fun dressing up as the Scarlet Witch during the 2022 Princess 5k (link) that she convinced my wife that we weren't going to Hawaii in 2023 and rather going back to Princess 2023. She wanted to go bigger and better. So I've boughten loads of cosplay instruction manuals and we're well on our way to making her imagination a reality. I've added the follow-along in my training journal (link).
-Have loads of fun with my daughter during the 5k. It was literally what dreams are made of, and I want to experience that with her again.
-Last year's goal was a Top 3 placement in the 10k, but the top runners were in the 34 min range which is outside my wheelhouse. If the weather is good, I'd like to see a sub-40. But you take what you get, and so we'll see.
-For the HM, I ran the first half continuously, and then once I got to the castle, I started stopping for pictures. I actually kind of like how it felt in the moment to run really fast, take a picture, and then hunt down the other runners around me that didn't stop. So I might do that again. It felt more like a workout then a race with really short rest breaks (like 5-10 sec). We'll see. This time around I'm making Princess Weekend a middle point in training rather than the end goal of the training plan. I missed out on some prime spring racing season, and in 2023 I'd like to get that back.
-Be the first person to stop for a castle photo during the HM like I was in 2022.

Thanks for sharing and asking!

My goals for Princess 2023:

1) Run all 3 races in costumes that are slightly more costume-ish than 2022’s Disney-bounding in running gear
2) Get better sleep so I’m less miserable during the first half of the half (I contemplated giving up as I was going down Main Street)
3) Stop for more characters! Starting in the CrD corral should cut down the waits a bit for me

Princess Goals:

I am doing yoga, the 5K, and the challenge. This will be my first Princess weekend!

Yoga: get there early enough to get a prime spot. Master headstand pose before so I can get a cool picture. And mermaid pose. This will be a challenge but I can definitely do it if I work at it. I’m not that far off.

5K: it could be cool to see if I can PR the 5k coming off of MW training… especially because during MW I’m going to take the 5k very easily. I’ll also be starting in a higher corral because of CrD which may help me avoid crowding. According to Athlinks, my 5K PR is 37:15 from 2014. My latest data for a 5K is 45:10 but this was as the last leg of a triathlon so my legs were fatigued. So goal to PR with a secondary goal of sub 36? What you think about this @DopeyBadger? Am I crazy?

Challenge: I am doing this with my friend as a celebration for getting our PhDs. He has not really run before (I think he did a 5k once) but has a goal of improving his fitness. My goal is to help him through it and to train with him so he can enjoy the weekend. And have fun at the races with him!

Costumes: I am pretty sure I want to represent the Princess of each race because they are 3 of my favorites. But I want to do something more creative than just being the Princess… ideas welcome!

My other big scary goal is to weigh sub-200 lbs (currently I weigh 223). Eek!!!

I’ll also be starting in a higher corral because of CrD which may help me avoid crowding.

This is largely dictated by what you put as your estimated pace during registration (and up until the POT cutoff). So if you put "sub-8" then you will very likely be in s1 (not saying you should do this, only merely as an example). I say "very likely" because we've seen some funny business with the 5k/10k placements in the last few weekends. But by in-large, they're dictated by that estimate and there is no POT grouping holding you back from being seeded further ahead. @ValW had Platinum club rD for the last season I believe. Was there any change in starting group based on being club runDisney in a non-challenge associated 5k?

So goal to PR with a secondary goal of sub 36? What you think about this @DopeyBadger? Am I crazy?

Too early to say and remains to be seen by where you're at in a few months.

I have two goals this time around:

1) Enjoy the 5k as much as I can, seeing as this is a family run

2) Finally break 1h00 for the 10k. I was close with 1:01;37 last Feb. I'll be asking you for a training plan in Nov...

No specific goals for the HM, except maybe take less pictures to finish faster than in 3 hours. But I'll just wing it.

My goals:
Have fun, stop for all of the characters we want, and not ugly-cry too many happy tears running down Mainstreet with my DD in her first Disney half. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it, so probably going to fail! :P

Running my first RunDisney event ever with the Princess Half Marathon (at age of 47). My previous longest race is 4 miles (although my daily runs are about 5 miles). Running with my sister 4 weeks after her 50th birthday and my brother (who will be 49).

My goal is for all of us to finish and have fun.
I did my first runDisney event at 42, and am doing my first Dopey next year at 43! You will have lots of company! And that's a great goal!

That's pretty much my goal for all my upcoming races. finish healthy with a smile on my face!
