So can you cancel a cash SW flight and get a refund or only travel funds?
As previous responders posted, usually only TF for WGA fares. However, depending on how far away the flight is you might want to wait. SW is pretty generous in giving refunds when flights get changed. Anything more than 3 weeks out has a high likelihood of being changed at least a little.

Where did you see the 7-10 days?

I prefer to wait and let it make it's way through. But if you're in a hurry to get the card and don't mind talking about your business, you can call.
On the screen after I submitted my application. The process was different this time because I logged into my Chase account to apply; now I'm wondering if that was a mistake. Taxes are due on March 1st and I don't want to cut it close so I'm going to call on Monday.

Depends on the type of fare you booked…wanna get away is non refundable and you get a voucher for that person that has to be used for a flight within 1 year of date the original airfare was purchased

🤦‍♀️ I am such an idiot.

Hi everyone

It's been a minute since I've participated on the thread---probably late spring 2020? After our March 2020 trip was cancelled (our arrival date was the day after the closure...and we had driven down to FL already for dh to visit some clients) and then our Sept 2020 big Australia trip was cancelled (yes, the trip for which I started down the CC rabbit hole), I just couldn't summon the motivation to think about miles and points and all that fun stuff.

I spent the last couple days reading through this year's thread. So much congratulations on new babies and new furry family members and retirements and graduations and weddings! Our ds and his spouse married in Sept 2020 but no one other than their housemate could be present---they did the ceremony via zoom which meant that my aunties in Sacramento were able to be there virtually, which was a nice consolation.

Dh and I have done some domestic travel since I was last here:

  • Sept 2020 we drove from our east coast home to visit many national parks (Indiana Dunes, Teddy Roosevelt, Glacier, Yellowstone, and Badlands) plus Black Hills/Custer State Park. We stayed in national parks lodging and a couple airbnbs, packed the camping stove, and cooked lots of meals. It was 3 weeks of relaxation and hiking that we desperately needed.
  • July 2021 we flew from PHL to LAS (SW RR + CP, Centurion Lounge) and did a Zion-Bryce-N Rim of Grand Canyon loop, staying in national parks lodging again. The trip was planned with 4 weeks notice and I was able to stalk the various websites to piece together in-parks stays in really nice cabins. The hiking was phenomenal!
  • Oct 2021 we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a long weekend in Boston. I used the Platinum Fine Hotels + Resorts benefit and the hotel credit for the Boston Harbor Hotel. Highly recommend this hotel! Service was absolutely wonderful, we were upgraded to a huge room, the breakfasts were great, used room service for dinner twice (better selection than the restaurant! prices were not inflated!!), walking distance to everything we wanted to see/do.
  • Nov 2021 finally able to see my extended family in Sacramento/Davis area (my late parents were both from CA), once again flew SW (RR + CP) from PHL (Centurion Lounge) to SMF (forget the name of that Amex lounge--tiny, not much food, but comfortable enough and much more relaxing than the terminal) via DEN (had a long layover on the return, so access to the Centurion Lounge was lovely). This was planned with 10 days notice which meant I couldn't find decent hotel availability on points anywhere that worked for us. We stayed at The Westin Sacramento, close to my eldest auntie, where we had stayed in the past.
We just returned Monday from a 6 night stay at WDW---3 nights BLT and 3 nights BWV that I pieced together after we had to cancel a big family trip over New Year's. Our youngest is studying abroad this semester and was concerned about testing positive and not being allowed into Austria, so we canceled for peace of mind. So dh and I went down for a nice trip, just the two of us. Used our DVC points, used 2 ticket credits from the cancelled Dec trip that had come from the cancelled March 2020 trip (added G+ for all days to use up the credit), used discounted Disney GC I had collected for the March 2020 trip, and flew on SW RR + CP. It was so nice to be back at WDW again princess:

Future travel plans:
  • a couple days cabin camping/hiking somewhere within driving distance in the summer
  • October to Sacramento for a cousin's wedding (date TBD--second marriage for both). I suggested that we add on a few days to hike in Yosemite, my favorite NP, but dh vetoed that in favor of going to Hawaii OMG!! So wedding, hop to Big Island for NP, maybe hop to Maui for the other NP, and then 5-6 days based at Aulani. We'll fly using SW RR (no more CP) to SMF and then use UR/MR for the remaining flights. Going to have to figure out the airline(s) and hotels.
  • Jan/Feb 2023 either Universal staying onsite using points of some sort or WDW using DVC + more ticket credits plus maybe a couple days at Vero for relaxation. If we do Vero, we'd drive down from DE.
  • Oct 2023 the finally rescheduled mega trip to Australia!!!!!! Finding comparable lie-flat, one-stop-from-east-coast business fares that I had booked for the cancelled trip looks like it will be tricky, but we're sitting on a ton of UR, MR, and United miles right now.
I'll have some specific questions about which CC I should get next later on, but for right now, I have to catch up on what I have missed in the CC world 📝

I just received my second SW biz card but it's not linking in my current Chase biz account online. Do I need to send an SM to have it added? I made an assumption that all biz cards would be listed together in the account like the personal are, but I can't figure out how to view it.

Disregard. I had to link it manually in the account.

Tell us what happened, we may still be able to get you a refund rather than a TF.
Booked 2 flights to SNA on SW with $ meaning to cancel and rebook once I have points and CP. Booked over a month ago. CP today. I've never booked cash and so used to booking with points and canceling and rebooking as needed. I will wait and see if flights get rescheduled as they are not until June.
Add this to the DLR tix I can only exchange at the gate and it's been a :scared: week.

Hopefully your flights are changed…..none of my ISP-MCO have been since SW stopped the massive schedule changes last year

I flew SWA on Wednesday evening. These were the inflight offers listed. BTW, there were only 68 people on the flight so FA’s had to assign us areas to sit to balance the plane. Had my own row. Was flying NS HOU to BWI at 7:06pm. I’m flying SWA again today and I will post if there any changes.

Welcome back!! And I the trip to Hawaii sounds so fun.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if you get changes. Even as little as 10 minutes can trigger the automatic system to ok a refund rather than TF. Otherwise not a lot you can do. As a lesson to anyone else in this situation, this is one of the few times where booking an Anytime fare would be worthwhile.

So I need Hotel CC 101 please!

We currently hold Amex Plat (me), Amex Gold (dh), CSR (me), CF (me), something Hyatt (dh), CFF (dh), SW Priority (me), CIU (me). We are both 0/24. I plan on going for SW CP for 2023-24.

If you were just starting out with hotel points, would you start with Marriott or with Hilton? Which brand is less stressful to deal with? Marriott will be having a devaluation soon, correct? What's the deal with FN certs? How soon do you receive the FN certs and are they then sent out at the same time each year (Q for planning purposes)? How difficult is it to stitch together stays using multiple FN certs from 2 people?

Right now I'm looking at using points/FNs on the Big Island in Oct/v early Nov and then in Sydney and Perth (maybe others) in Oct 2023. Regular domestic travel includes Sacramento/Davis and Colorado Springs when visiting family, and then road tripping to national parks (where we like to stay in-park on cash).

I appreciate the help!

I would never chase Marriott points for any reason, but especially not now with the changes supposed to go into effect next month. If I were going to start chasing hotel points I'd go with Hyatt and then Hilton. I say this as a Hilton Diamond and no status with Hyatt. The only downside to Hyatt is that they aren't everywhere, but they are a lot more places than they used to be. Hilton is pretty much everywhere. If you're looking at the Aspire card, it gives you Diamond status, which can make a big difference in some places. No resort fees on award stays and 5th night free if booking entirely on points.

I looked at the Big Island when we were planning our Hawaii trip, ended up cutting it out, but I would use the Chase travel portal to book small hotels right outside VNP.

Thank you for posting!!! I think I'll go for the lower MSR!

Quick questions, I am working on my MSR for the Southwest Bus card. My first payment is due March 21. When will my statement close date be?
It's usually 25 days prior to that, so around 3/6. It might be adjusted because of the weekend.
