Rumor - Buffets may be returning to Walt Disney World Dining Locations

The only buffet I will go to is one where the servers stand behind the line and put the food on the plate for you. If they are going back to shared utensils dipped in open serving containers, nope, not doing that.

And the plexi/glass needs to go all the way down to the "conveyor" and the CM hand the plates up and over the top to guests. Not closing in the food makes is right in line to receive guests "germs" particularly kids walking along with parents.

Do they have the staff to serve people at each station ? We shall see.

ETA: Seems that the DL buffets are self serve.

I would like it if it offered a more varied array of food but I will say that buffets lost their luster for me after learning I'm sensitive to cross contamination.
I wonder if they could both offer table service/family style as well as a self-serve buffet? That might be a lot of staff but I'm seeing people during the pandemic becoming more aware of/adverse to food/sharing.

That’s a bummer… I figured it would happen sooner or later, but I’ve really appreciated the all-you-care-to-enjoy family-style counterparts being offered in their place. I think it’s better quality & I love staying seated 😍

I doubt they would do this for “standard” guests, but they have always done this for people with allergies/food concerns like you… you can have safe food prepared just for you 😊

I may be in the minority, but I'm happy about this. We've always enjoyed buffets, not for the amount of food but the variety. Tusker House is a great example of variety that was negatively impacted by going family style.

Me, too. I think people that like them are less likely to speak up. I've seen words like 'disgusting' applied to buffets.

I don't eat that much, but I love variety. So, family-style is the worst of both worlds. You get the price of all-you-can-eat, but selection of ala-carte without the ability to take my leftovers home or share a plate with DD.

Even when they serve cafeteria style, the selection is more limited than self-serve. Each server can only handle so many dishes.

Luckily I have no filter, therefore no problem speaking up. 😉
The only way I'll set foot back on Disney property is if Trail's End goes back to being a buffet with it' previous choices. We take friends there when they visit from out of the area and it's always a highlight of their trip.

Its only a matter of time. The lower amount of staff needed for a buffet makes them very profitable for Disney.

I am fine with it. I'm not really ready to go to a self-serve buffet right now, but when things calm down I'll be good. The risk of catching something at a buffet have always been overblown, and that is no different now.
