2 Kids text positive on Royal- Family Disembarked-Cruise Continues

RCL paid for the flight. Everyone had to be tested before returning home. The concern I have is what happens on a 7 night or longer cruise? They will test mid cruise and it is almost a given that people will be sent home. Perhaps by then there will be no need for mod cruise testing
Seems unsustainable for RCL—the flight must have cost more than the family’s cruise fare.

They haven't yet told anyone what their policies for fall sailings will be. No one knows. That's one thing that's making those of us with fall cruises nervous. One good thing is that Florida won the initial part of its court case against the CDC, so it seems unlikely that rules will be as strict in the fall as they are now.
Requirements may not be as strict, but a cruise.line can make rules that are stricter than requirements. I would expect DCL to operate that way, given Disney's approach in theme parks.

That is what trip insurance is for. People buy it for all the wrong reasons. They think that it is important to get their money back for things like the flight, but that is inconsequential compared to a medical emergency. When I leave the Country(like on a cruise) I always buy trip insurance through Allianz Global and get the plan that covers emergency medical evac back to the States and medical costs, usually up to at least a half a million. I couldn't care less about getting my money back for the trip since I already consider that money gone. Allianz is very reasonably priced and kids under 18 are free with their parent's plan.
Yes. When I took my first trip as a single parent I looked over the travel insurance to really consider if I needed it. I got to the part where they cover someone coming to pickup your child and travelling home with them and I got the picture really quickly on just how crazy a medical emergency could be on a trip. I can't imagine the trauma my child would experience if I were the one going to the hospital!

I wouldn't expect Disney to be sending families home on chartered flights regularly throughout their return to cruising. Way too expensive & Disney doesn't like to waste money, and less customer-friendly alternatives (guest having to pay themselves) would be nightmare PR. I don't think they'll do onboard testing once the law no longer requires it.

Masks, distancing, testing before boarding, I can see that. But not routine onboard testing of asymptomatic passengers. The onboard testing itself creates bad PR because headlines go out saying, "This cruise ship has positive passengers!" So no, Disney isn't going to keep testing everyone during the cruise once it's no longer required.

Exactly, there’s a reason Disney has kept VERY quiet on cases at the parks. And it is not because they have not been happening.

This will keep happening and if any cruise line begins accepting unvaccinated guest you can guarantee a major outbreak will happen as well.
MSC has been sailing for almost a year with no major covid breakouts and no vaccine requirements.

They just had another cruise with 2 adults that tested positive. The whole cruise was vaccinated so it sounds like to me, It’s impossible to keep COVID away.
It's something people are going to have to learn to live with like the flu. Flu vaccines don't always prevent you from getting the flu. As numbers keep decreasing the chance of major outbreaks happening will become less and less.

These aren't major outbreaks. Just an asymptomatic person or two per ship of thousands of passengers who tested positive during routine onboard testing.

Testing, masks, temp checks, social distancing, different requirements for fully vaccinated vs unvaccinated. It's interesting to follow for sure.

actually fully vaccinated people do not spread the virus. at least according to maderna, phizer, and the cdc. as well as astrazenica and johnson and johnson. why were they tested? did someone show symptoms? covid isnt going anywhere for a very long time but just like the flu if you get the vaccine you have a smaller chance of getting sick even if you get the virus.

Less likely to spread not impossible to spread.

Thats why if any of these policies are about health even those with vaccination should be tested. Which is why most of these policies are broken to an extent.

The only difference between the two is the unvaccinated have to a pcr test prior to cruising, buy insurance and do ship sponsored excursions other than that the protocols are the same. Most of Europe is now open to Americans without a vaccine requirement. Negative PCR is required for most. I guess were in the green zone now moving in the right direction.

Parents tested negative. So obviously they maybe got it at a port. They got a negative PCR test
before boarding but who knows.

The fact they were the only 2 out of all passengers and crew to be positive to me shows protocols
are working. When more capacity increases you will have some breakthroughs/positive cases.
Long as they are sporadic I'm willing to sail.

Just curious if there is a ship line that says you have to be 100% vaccinated to sail with us? It would
have to be an adult only right?

Our NCL cruise to Alaska this September requires everyone 12 and older to be vaccinated. If you are under 12 and/or unable to be vaccinated you can not sail.

I hope Disney does not do that, that would be alienating a majority of their base, esp those with toddlers/babies. Cruising is far easier vacation then destination as there is a lot to keep little ones busy and occupied.

This was a 7-night cruise. The 7-night cruises have been going on for a while outside of the US, with very similar COVID protocols and no major outbreaks.

Or that the tests aren't 100% accurate. Either one is a possibility.
The chances of two members of the same family turning up incorrect test results? Very low.

Yeah, I don't see week-long cruises returning until after they no longer need to follow these harsh CDC rules.
The on-board rules are no more harsh or lax than those in Europe or elsewhere in the world. The tests that caught these cases also weren't random tests. You need these tests conducted within 72 hours of your arrival into the port, which is why they take place on the 5th or 6th day of a 7-night cruise.

It's a good thing they caught the cases. The passengers could make alternative arrangements ahead of time. Imagine having to quarantine in a random Nassau hospital or hotel room for 10 days after you find out at the airport that you are infected.

There was another cruise under discussion in which a vaccinated passenger tested positive. I was directly responding to a post about that.

There is no way to say this without someone not being happy with it, but this is my opinion. As a parent, there is no way that I would take a baby on vacation now. I don't even agree with taking a baby younger then 15 months to somewhere that is heavily populated. Until they get the majority of their vaccinations, it is not a risk that I was willing to take with my babies. Too many anti-vaxxers out there now that treat these diseases like a joke. My kids are grown now, but if they were little, no way would I take them anywhere, especially a cruise until this thing gets much, much better. The way I see it is, no vacation is worth the risk of my baby getting this, especially since there seems to be some long term affects on kids. Can you imagine if your child got sick and had ongoing issues because of it, all for a vacation? How much would any parent regret that decision? Maybe Disney is thinking the same thing, that people will not want to risk their small children until things improve. There are plenty of adults, or those with older kids that sail with DCL.
