The Problem with Galaxy's Edge

Let me preface with I enjoyed my time at GE, loved Rise and loved being ON the Millennium Falcon and being somewhat inside the Star Wars universe. However, the problem with GE is the timeline. Firmly planting it in the middle of the last 3 movies was a colossal mistake.
The First Order sucks, they're lousy villains and the lack of anything from the original trilogy besides Easter eggs here and there is a tragedy.
Sure Rey is cool, and it's nice to see Chewie, but that's it.

Plenty agree and plenty don’t. The youngest generation- who will be around the longest and so has a larger financial impact- tends to like the newer stuff better. Personally I think the original trilogy is mostly a bit boring, along with VII as it was the third version of blowing up a large battle station, and am glad the land isn’t based on IV-VI. I find the last two episodes, and the books from the same time span, much more interesting and exciting than IV-VII. What they did is a bit of a compromise...set in new era but with callbacks to IV-VII and even to Clone Wars and Rebels.

It was a huge mistake and they know it, but rather than learn from it going forward, they are doubling down and keeping this timeline and Rey as the main character for the Star Wars hotel. LOL. Good luck with that, Disney.

GE is my favorite part of Disney but definitely agree they placed the timeline in between the two lousiest movies in the franchise. It wouldn’t be that hard to switch to the OT. Rise they’d just change Kylo/Hux to Vader/Tarkin. Everything else fits. The Falcon and Hondo work in any timeline as do all the vehicles. Change the First order helmets to Stormtrooper helmets.

The first order troopers is the main thing that irks my husband about this land. Especially their appearance in the RotR. He was like "aww...why couldn't they have been storm troopers?"

Storm Troopers were volunteers, First Order as we learned were at least in some part slaves. Not cool.

The original movie is 44 years old. Many kids today think those movies look dated – and they're right.

Disney isn't just for kids, though. Clearly they have forgotten that with their admitted "surprise" at how many Disney+ subscriber households have NO KIDS, which Bob Chapek mentioned in the most recent media conference call.

Shortsighted. The demographic largely spending money in the parks right now are the people who grew up with the original trilogy. That is who they should be trying to impress.

But they could/can get the Sequel actors today. They can do some weird CGI with Mark, Carrie and Harrison but I don't think we are there yet with the technology and I honestly don't want to see mannequins.

Agree, they are going to move into "who cares" territory pretty rapidly, and based on toy sales already are.

Luckily they can probably pretty easily retheme into a broader "Star Wars universe" setting, much like Wizarding World being at a generic "sometime" around the HP books

i went to an outdoor movie a few summers ago my town puts on. The kids absolutely loved ET and Jaws

they can tell quality if they are exposed to it

Which is why I was responding to the person who said that "kids think SW is dated."

Thank you for this utterly original, unique and daring "insight." You're the first person on the planet who has made this complaint.

Congratulations!

I agree with the OP. We are going to Disney World June 13-20 and I have little excitement for GE (having been to the Disneyland version in 2019) or riding Rise of the Resistance for the first time. At least not the same excitement I would have if GE were set in another era of Star Wars. You know, there are so many rides at Disney that are based on content much older than the original Star Wars movies.

Batuu is great, and an ideal setting. It’s easily adaptable in the future, and doesn’t necessarily have to be constrained forever. Right now they’re doing the “between 8 and 9” thing. I’m sure it will change in the future. Isn’t that the whole thing? That the parks are ever evolving?

I've just watched the Avengers Campus opening.

They don't constrain the land to an specific timeline, they even have TWO Captain America (the first one and Sam Wilson)!
Feige even said they would update the land with the release of new movies/series.

I would love to see that on Galaxy's Edge characters like Darth Vader, Luke, Han, Leia and others from original and even new movies/series, like Grogu or Mando.

I think it's time to change and evolve. Seeing and awesome Spiderman animatronic swinging above the campus or all Marvel's characters performing makes me wonder WHY they have so few characters on Galaxy's Edge.
