Views are important to me too, even at the values. I request ground floor rooms and scope out rooms with unobstructed views for future trips.
I am with you about room views at value and Mods, during the day we keep our curtains open so I like to just look outside:) I will add that I have never paid for a preferred area and never felt like I needed too. I have better things to spend my $$ on then to save me, maybe, a few minutes of walking. I will just put in a request for a building or ask for a room facing the lake and had great success doing this.

Please don’t laugh. Well, laugh because I am. Did this come from a FL number? Since I teach, I have the option on my phone to send unknown calls to voicemail... wondering if I need to disable that until after our trip. If I do, and a FL number comes, I’d totally be “hang on kids, Mickey’s calling.” 😂
It actually came from the main WDW number. I have a lot of the WDW different numbers in my phone from when we did the free dining. (Call ever number trying to get through haha). So it came up on my phone as WDW from my contacts. I actually didn’t catch the call, but they left a voicemail and I got an email from guest services. I called them back about 5 minutes after they called at the guest services number they left for reservations.

hmmm i Would love that call never stayed at AOA….May I ask what part of May you’re going
We arrive on the 13th. It’s just me and my husband so it was nice because we’d never pay for a suite for just ourselves. And we have wanted to stay at AoA but don’t see the point of doing the little mermaid rooms when we can just stay at Pop. Our love is Pop Century. We have another trip in October staying at Pop so don’t feel like we’re missing anything. Just a new adventure haha!

We once got a phone call at Pop a few hours after we had checked in asking us if we’d like a free upgrade on our 2 week trip to an AofA Nemo Suite because of an air conditioner problem with our room.

Maybe we’re crazy but we turned them down. Love Pop!
You know, I would have done the same. If we were already at Pop I would have been hyped about being back at Pop. Pop Century will always be our home resort.

Exactly what I was thinking as I read this thread! LOL! I’ve brought my students enough times, they totally would have cheered me on for taking the call too! What a great call to get too! I could only hope for that magical upgrade call...

ahhh we arrive on 17th just me and my husband too! actually for the first time ever without kids! and I am so excited!
we booked the buy3 get2 promo and through a travel agent though(I really love booking my own trips but I like to support my cousin LOL ) so I suppose she would be getting the call if so
and I’m suddenly reminded I need to tell her to ask for a Lakeview

just returned from pop - a few observations. the lines to store luggage in the mornings are obnoxious. i waited and hour and missed my rise of the resistance boarding group. a kind soul at the resort called over to HS and got me in a later boarding group (probably easier because i was solo this time around.)

rooms are nice, and preferred rooms are really worth the extra in my opinion - i was just 5 min walk from skyliner and main hall. they are still doing the 'room check' during the pandemic which infuriated me to no end. this time i actually got a manager who told me she hears tons of complaints about the 'room checks' and guests are on the whole very unhappy about the policy. also the first person who listened to me without canned responses which was refreshing. this is probably the main reason i won't be staying at disney resorts moving forward. without extra magic hours, and advanced fastpasses, there really is no point.

the main pool got uncomfortably crowded towards the end of my trip, and the parks doubly so now that the cheer groups are there. glad i am not there, now! i've hated being there amongst the cheer groups in years past and will avoid it now that i know what to look for.

skyliner is mostly great and lines can get long but they do move pretty quickly especially out of the parks at night but, skyliner broke down one night from epcot and it was absolute mayhem. one of the worst disney customer service fails i've ever seen. they made everyone march over to a boardwalk hotel and then arranged busses. the last thing you want to do when walking around parks all day is shlep another 30 minutes and wait in another hour + line. it took some people hours to get back to their resorts. i was rescued by a kind family who let me share their cab back to pop. i wish i could buy them a drink now.... paid it forward by sitting with a guy at hollywood studios and broke him down on how to get a 'rise' boarding group. you meet some nice people traveling solo.

Staying at Pop for the first time - next week! - and this thread has been so helpful! I know I’m now overthinking this but — DHS opens at 9 am on our park day. To get there for rope drop, we should be at the Skyliner station at 7? 7:15?

I can help with this! Just did this this morning.

I’d read that we needed to be at the Skyliner by 7:15 at the latest, otherwise we’d face joining the dreaded long line at CBR.

When I was out for my run, I saw that there were at least 10 groups already waiting at 7:10.

We were running late this morning and didn’t get to the Skyliner stop until 7:50. We immediately boarded the Skyliner at POP without a line.

We got to CBR station and waited in line for 5 whole minutes to get to HS. We were held in temp check until 8:18. We were all the way to the right and were one of the first in. We walked back to SDD and were on the second train of the day!

Then went to MFSR, which we did twice in a row as it was a walk-on.

I hope that’s helpful! Obviously it’s going to vary day-to-day depending on when people decide to line up.

amazing! Yes this is SO helpful. Thank you! We were originally aiming for 730ish... and knowing that we will be at a fully booked resort next weekend is not helpful my anxiety:laughing:

Just out of curiosity, did you hear or read something prior to your trip that made you think the room checks had been suspended during the pandemic?

What is a room check?

They do a check every day to check for signs of human trafficking and and potential terrorist activities (such as the Las Vegas shooter). If you're in the parks all day, you'll only notice because they remove the trash. If you're in the room they simply walk in and take a look around - and reportedly flush the toilet. I'm in the parks all day, so I can only go by what people who spend valuable park time in their rooms have stated about that. They are not rifling through things, just taking a brief look around everything in view.

EVERY hotel can do these - and many do. Disney is just transparent about it.

DD and I are staying at Pop in June and a couple of friends are tagging along, staying in a separate room. I'm assuming I'll need to go to the front desk to request that the parking fee be removed from their room, since we're all driving up together.

Should I do this on day 1 right away?

We're planning on arriving before our room is ready, parking at the resort, taking a bus to MK and then possibly hopping to Epcot.

After all of that we'll probably be really tired and I don't necessarily want to deal with the desk after a long day!

If it’s not a pressing matter and you don’t need to go to the desk on check in day, I’d just stop in whenever I’m walking by and there’s no line and double check it.

Can anyone do the tye dye? We are staying at AOA, but the Pop schedule works better for us. Also, is this a kids only activity?
Thanks!

This was our line for Bell service on February 27 at 11:11am our check in day. We waited about 45 minutes. On our last day March 6 we paid for late check out $76.00 till 2:30, so we could leave our luggage in our room and not check it in with bell service. Worked out better for us this way.

I found your post using the search function! Trying to get info on late check out...

So it's still possible? When do I request it? Is it always $76 or does it depend on how late you need? Thanks!

No it's not a kid's only activity. At least it wasn't when we did it for my 21st birthday trip and my parents still wear theirs!
