Dec UY
Beach Club: 200 :: 1 contract resale
Grand Cali: 130 :: 1 contract resale (currently in Closing)
OKW: 25 :: 1 contract resale (currently in ROFR)

First contract offer was made at the end of August 2020. Due to Covid, local governments in Vegas are really hurting. The County offered a nice buy-out to encourage early retirement. Forty-one firefighters including myself took the buy-out along with 400+ County employees. Sweet hubby said to use the $$ for my dream of owning DVC. Boy, did he open a can of worms!! :love2:

As someone who owns the following:

60 BWV direct

and currently finds herself struggling to use some banked points (lol)
, I am most curious what these large point memberships get you! So, if anyone wants to add their typical usage in just a simple format, I'd absolutely love to know how you use all those points!

For us, it's 5-6 nights in a studio (occacionally 2 studios) usually every year with an occasional year off.

Plan was to add-on only small contracts as family grows and needs change (retirement). So far, we're just not in need of more!

Not to derail this thread but how often do you go when you have 1- 2k points?
2-3 times a year. Usually staying in 2BRs, or sometimes splurge on 3BRs or Cabins, especially when taking family. We usually aim for around a week on one trip, and 4-5 days on the others. We also still vacation somewhere else, however, during the year, as I love to travel and see new places. Our boys are teenagers and it’s possible we’ll change our patterns once they’re grown, especially if my job continues to allow me to work remote (hello wintering in Disney!). The only challenge to that theory is our pets! I so wish Disney would consider building a pet-friendly DVC. I think they underestimate how many of us would love to have a DVC resort we could bring our furbabies to and not need to kennel them.

I also do rent out points when we don’t use all of our points, partly to offset the cost of our annual dues. I know one can argue that’s bad financial planning, but we got some really low priced resale contracts with low annual dues, and while putting that money into investments and using the returns for dues might be a wiser choice, we like having those pool of points on the years we decide “let’s stay in a Cabin this time” or, like next year, let’s get an AKV Grand Villa Thanksgiving week and bring my SIL and family with us, or the big family trip where we’re getting 3 2BRs & 2 Studios at BRV & CCV as we’re taking all my siblings & their kids and my parents to Disney.

My plan is to do all of the runDisney events (love them - hoping they came back on both coasts). I just prefer the 1-bedrooms even when I travel alone. Also, trips with extended family. We have a 2-bedroom for 10 nights at beach club coming up and 5-nights at Grand Cali (keeping fingers crossed they open) for my 60th celebration. Plan on possibly renting out if needed (or to use towards cruises).

350 BWV (1 resale contract, 2011)

Enough to enjoy 1 bedrooms for at least 2 weeks or 2 trips, every other year. At this time, not interested in studio stays (except Poly since there are no 1 bedrooms...) , but could change as we hope to do more adults only trips when younglings leave the nest
Chose BWV to be able to walk to HS and Epcot, plus easy to get what we want/need at 11 months for festivals (except 2 bedroom standard,) . Have stayed at most other resorts w no issues getting rooms at 7 months. LOVE BWV, and no regrets choosing that one.

Aug 2020 - 250 PVB Resale
Aug 2020 - 100 SSR Direct

As a new member I find my self back and forth between “did I get to many to quickly?” and “it would be nice to add a little more on”. So far I’m mostly happy with where I’m at, but not being able to buy an annual pass for the 4 of us means every time I think about booking another trip I think “ugh, another $2000+ for tickets“. If it wasn’t for the need to keep buying tickets I would probably be doing more trips this year. I would need to spend around $10K to get tickets for 4 people for the 4 trips we had planned on doing over a 1 year period.

The sample size in this thread is pretty small so far, but the people with massive numbers of points seem to have accumulated them quickly and recently. I do wonder if this gets addicting, then reality of paying huge maintenance fees year after year causes people to quickly scale back. I find myself watching room tours on YouTube often for no reason. It could also be people this board having a bias where new members have a tendency to be the ones reading it. After a few years of being a member maybe it gets to be so routine these forums get repetitive so longer term members don’t tend to read it?

This is an interesting thread. I am curious the makeup of other members points, and how they end up using them over the years

Member since 2007 and up to 425 points. In order of purchase.

SSR 150 points, December use year (2007) - direct
VGC - 50 points, December use year (2010) - direct
Vgc - 50 points, December use year (2017) - resale
AKV - 75 points, December use year (2018) - direct
AKV - 100 points, February use year (2019) - resale

i think there are 1-2 more add-ones in my future. being a west coast member, I would like to possibly buy at the DLH tower. And maybe more for wdw to go up to a 1 bedroom more often. I think future add one will go on my February use year to balance a bit more. Although I a open to a third use year.

I use the points for 2 wdw trips per year (1 week in March in a studio and close to 2 weeks in September usually in a studio) and then 2 2-3 day Disneyland staycations (July for the anniversary and then a fall/winter visit).

450 total, just added direct at CCV to quell my blue-card FOMO. Live in SoCal so have taken one big trip a year staying in 2-bedrooms for the last few years. Wish we would've jumped into DVC sooner.

BCV - JUN - 200 - resale - 2019
AKL - JUN - 100 - resale - 2020
CCV - JUN - 150 - direct - 2021
