Thank you to all who shared your thoughts on DVC.

I think I'll have a better idea after this upcoming trip on whether it's something we want to look into or not.

I know my sister is looking at Aulani (her husband is interested in Hawaii, specifically) and the cash price right now is roughly 20K for the minimum 100 points (which she plans to do, as opposed to financing). I guess I'd need to know what that 100 points would get her (a week? no idea) on an annual basis before I could figure out whether it would be a good fit for us.

If we decide we definitely want to spend a full week each year at WDW, it might be something to look into. If we decide we prefer DL and our "cheap" vacations (sometimes only a couple days), then probably not.

Aulani is no bueno unless you genuinely already go to Hawaii once a year. It's something of a failure as a DVC resort, as it's been on sale for a decade and it's not even half sold.

The minimum recently went up to 125 points. You'll see a lot of people on the DVC boards using some really fuzzy math to justify direct pricing because of the annual pass discount - which is completely worthless if you buy a resort that's not on property. And yeah, you can switch to a WDW resort at 7 months, but availability is very iffy and you should plan on staying at SSR or OKW most of the year unless you're booking 1brs (which are a bad value) or willing to check availability multiple times per day to get what you want. And if you're mostly using your Aulani points at SSR/OKW, that's a waste of money both from the perspective of buy- in and annual dues.

In the end, DVC is a very emotional purchase due to the current cost. The people who bought in 10+ years ago got a steal; those days are gone. The only thing you should be thinking about is getting a prepaid discount on a place to stay. That's all DVC truly is. And when you boil it down to just that, the math becomes much simpler.

As someone else said, keep researching and answering questions. I tend to think almost all direct purchasers are making a bad buy, and I say this as someone who has a direct contract. So many of the stories on the DVC boards are people who were on the fence or planned to buy resale, but they took a trip to WDW, took the tour, and signed on-site because they got caught in the magic. Disney is counting on that.

And by the way, points charts are on the website so you know how far your points will go. They differ by resort and time of year:

Thank you... I will share these thoughts with her.

Hey guys, I feel like I'd been silent for too long around here. I just don't have much to share recently. On the churning front I'm focused primarily on earning more URs to continue to maximize PYB at 1.5 cpp. Cash is king in my book right now.

So things are largely boring and there hasn't been a lot of major churning news so I'm just going about my business. Hope everybody is doing well!

Glad you are okay. I was thinking about you yesterday. And I'm in the same boat--trying to get URs and pay myself back. Was saving URs for European flights but that trip looks unlikely so I'll take the cash now.

Applied for CSP this morning. I got the "Verifying your information" popup that never moved. It appears stuck/frozen there. Help! What do I do now? I signed into my Chase account but did not see a new card there. So did the app go through?

ETA: Called to check on app status. First it said my SSN doesn't match any applications. I then re-entered social, then it said the status is not yet known, please wait 30 days.

If you need it soon you should be able to call the recon line. But if you aren't in a hurry to have it approved I would just wait for them to approve it.

I posted over in What card next/Advanced.....I'd really love to hear some input on my plan...thank you!
