We are arriving tomorrow, and it has been a series of changes that would make any serial-changer DISBoarder proud!
I had booked last summer 4 nights at Gran Destino Club Level as a Bounceback to celebrate my daughter's 13th birthday. When the rumors started about the NBA taking over CSR (before the reopening of the parks was announced), I changed to 8 nights in a regular room at Polynesian Village (regular hotel, non-DVC).
When the announcement came out that the Poly hotel side would not open until August, I called and they moved me to the Contemporary Tower because the Poly studios were booked.
Then, the Passholder discounts came out. I checked for our dates, but Poly was not available, so kept Contemporary.
Today, the day *before* we are arriving at Disney, I see that the Poly Studio Standard View is available with the Passholder discount. I called, not sure if I could make a rate and resort change the day before. The lovely CM was able to switch us.
So, I guess we are arriving to Poly tomorrow! First time staying DVC! I'm so excited, this is where we really wanted to stay.
Now to go back and read this thread, which I stopped reading when we switched to CR, since it made me sad that I wasn't staying here.
Are both pools open?
Thanks for the heads up. That has always been my beef with Poly. Lovely place, but always so busy. I admit that I was hoping that it would be less busy, given that half the resort is closed. But, I guess there isn't that much to do in the evenings with the parks closing early, so everyone heads to the pool. Has the Oasis pool been less busy than the Lava pool? That’s a bit like what happened to us. Was moved to BLT for one trip and CR Garden Wing for another... then at some point randomly it would let me switch that CR Garden Wing to Poly online and I jumped at it ASAP.
Just a small warning - the Poly Lava Pool was every bit as crowded this afternoon as what you’d find in a normal July. The Barefoot Pool bar is understaffed and the line was long. I suspect it will stay stout for the weekend then die down again during the week.
For once we went to a PARK to escape the crowd at the resort, and not the other way around. Total bizarro world we are living in.
But otherwise I hope you have a great trip and glad Poly worked out for you.
Oh I didn’t even think about the monorail end time! Thanks for this. We are at CR this trip but have a dinner at Kona one evening. We thought we could take the monorail but I guess we will need to drive.

OK, so I have two 7:30pm dinners at the Contemporary and one 6:55 dinner at MK, so this 8pm monorail closing seems really early!
I think we'll plan to drive to dinner at Contemporary. To return from MK, is the ferry to TTC operating later than 8pm? Or will there be a bus back to Poly?
You had 1 job!

We've changed our resort stay 5 times since April leading up to this past week. This week I was able to get us set up as a split stay with Poly being a few nights. Then this morning I was able to complete our entire trip staying at Poly. This is our first time staying DVC, Deluxe and Poly has always been my dream resort. Plus my girls are so excited about the Lava pool (11 and 2). We will be arriving first thing tomorrow morning to park our car and monorail over to MK!
We noticed that, too. The grass in front of the ground floor patios looked a bit tall.I guess my last Poly comment, I will say the Poly landscaping is looking a little neglected if I’m honest. It doesn’t look bad/abandoned, but if I had to guess it seems they may have dialed down the frequency of care a bit. You do see maintenance, landscapers, etc around so it’s not that nothing is being maintained, just feels a little less.
Could one walk from CR to MK and take the Poly ferry boat back to the Poly? We have a dinner at CR and it seems possible we could be done by 8pm or so and make it to the MK dock in time for the last boat, but I'm not sure if we'd run into a security checkpoint that would be closed for the night or something as I've never used the walking path from CR to MK.With MK closing at 7pm, normal return options from a dinner at CR are pretty toast. I haven’t been watching the ferry, but the Poly boat has been ending 1.5ish hours after park closing, I assume the ferry is similar.
It pretty much means driving is the only option for evening activities.
I guess one could take the bus from CR to Disney Springs and the a Poly bus back, but that’s going WAY out of the way.
Have they been turning people away at the pools due to capacity issues?
