LOST POINTS - Cancelled trip last week of June, due to COVID and Parks not being open: Disney will not give back points

Just got off of a chat (as in chat window off the DVC website) with Member Services. Here's my situation. My use year is October. Had a reservation for July 10-16, so clearly that was a window where the resort would be open. I canceled that reservation yesterday, made a new one for January 3-8, 2021

My July reservation was 172 points. 18 were in my account and banked into UY-2019 from UY-2018. 128 points were from UY-2019. 26 points were borrowed from UY-2020. My contract is a 200 point contract.

Exact transcript of my conversation with MS: The 18 banked Vacation Points would have to be used by November 30, 2020. The 26 borrowed Vacation Points would be unborrowed back to 2020. And the 128 Vacation Points would be banked into 2020.

So I'm losing 18 points as I won't be traveling before Nov 30, 2020. 154 points put back into UY-2020. Was also informed that this would take a few weeks to process.

Hope this helps anyone else.

Agree with the others, including with how bothered you are by Disney's refusal to refund your points. . .but as pointed out, harsh as it seems, that's DVC policy, and given the amount of forgiveness they've handed out, I don't see them adjusting that view.

That aside, I love the suggestion above--spend your dollars elsewhere. Disney has you on the hook for the resort, so stay there and enjoy but travel to US on their special ticket price offer. Dine outside of Disney. Find day excursions to the beach. Just as Disney is holding you to their rules, use those rules to stay in a prepaid room yet get away from the Disney bubble and give your money to other companies. That is exactly what I would do under your circumstances.
Exactly what I am doing. My reservation is 6/22-6/27! Relax and explore Universal and Orlando.

I understand your point about time but I didn’t cancel. They canceled are two week trip. As for time your correct but we have kids and with the schools closed for so long I feel taking them out would not be the best idea. They canceled not me. The burden of doing the right thing is in their court not mine. I will be a bitter guest till I don’t.

Your schools are opening in July?

Honestly I feel this is all being done so that they don't have to go outside normal boundaries (extending point usage for example) and can still charge dues.

Somewhere someone is saying "Hey, we only owe them a room". It might be what we signed up for, but it doesn't make it right.

Can't the points be deposited to RCI which extends them? There are a lot of nice resorts in RCI.

I saw that Governor DeSantis extended the travel ban on NY/NJ/CT yesterday in his latest EO 20-139. Does that impact those travelers that had 6/22 or later reservations? Extension was through 6/30. BTW, bars are now open in FL. :)

It was already extended to July 7th...so it may have been included and if it is 6/30..it was reduced!

Thanks! I had heard the 7/7 date, but never saw the official EO. In 139, the original ban EO-69 (I think) was given the 6/30 date. This was a Phase 2 opening and that is good news. Phase 3 is pretty much, "come on down!"

Also, restaurants up to 50% as of 6/5. Disney probably happy with that.

DVC site will not allow us to bank. Points robbed, no reply.

Then it is a glitch and you need to call. April 2020 are still within the window.

Sometimes, those things happen and owners call and they are able to figure out why things on the website Didn’t work correctly.

Only ones not bankable would be April 2019 because they have already been banked...but they would still be available to you through next March 31st, 2021.

I had 230 2018 points with a reservation 7/4-7/11/ so I called and was told that if i cancelled I had to use them by end of my use year which is 9/30/20.
They said they would not extened them to the end of November Is this correct. You get so many different answers

Yes, because the resorts are open. Extended points must come from a reservation that was during closure.

Actually, there are owners who rescheduled the points before they knew of the extension and have now disqualified them...it seems last reservation used in counts.

That sounds like you see the points and just can't bank them? We have 2 UY's - one is also an April as it sounds like yours is. We also had a reservation cancelled because of resort closure (an April reservation) and my points are there like normal - both previously banked 2019 points and also 2020 points. All are there available to be used or in the case of 2020 points to be banked. I have already banked a few of the 2020 points for use next April so I would also think that there is some glitch with your account. Did you try and bank your 2020 points into 2021 as soon as your reservation was cancelled so maybe before April 1st? You have to be in the UY before you can bank.

For those that are in the mad / pissed off boat that are saying dvc isn’t making any exceptions, that simply isn’t true: ** they allowed late banking + ext of usage of banked points until 11/30

For the folks that have/had a resy between 6/22 and 7/15 and “decided” to cancel, there is something called renting, which because DVC is the best TS system you can easily make a profit above your annual dues. Some please stop saying you got screwed or lost. You’ve had options before the virus hit to use or rent out and you have options even now.

last thought. Does Marriot or Hilton TS system give you more flexibility if SeaWorld or Universal decide to close for a week due to a gas leak for example? i hope all the dvc owners come to their senses.

We have several contracts. The points in question where banked in 2019 February and used to book a two week trip in June 2020. I wanted to use in-same time frame next summer they said NO. I had to use by February and booking availability was after October and in school year.
While I understand the rules but they canceled, not me. That should allow me a grace period of 1 year that they have already offered others but in a different time frames. ie march thru june. Its BS and I plan on getting my money out of them anyway I can. I will be that customer they hate
till I feel that I have gotten my piece of flesh. Bitter YES

Selling might be a better alternative for you than hanging on to this bitter vendetta. You're most likely going to make CM's who had nothing to do with this and probably other guests miserable than you are to get Disney hate you.

I mean, you’re an owner, not a customer. Even if you had the power to tie up resources (you don’t), you end up paying for it anyway with higher dues.

just sell and call it a day, there’s a robust market out there and it’s not worth the time experimenting whether some big bad corporation will notice you.
