NBA at Walt Disney World

Given Disney is paying the NBA over $1 billion a year, and they promo it nearly nonstop, I think they’d disagree with you

Who would disagree ? Disney, the NBA , or the American people ? There are a number of star players that have made very questionable statements over the past year ( and again, it's politics, so last I will say on the topic- not looking for trouble or for the thread to be deleted)

And I am not doubting (at all) the financial aspect -

Not sure what you’re implying with this. Disney does a lot of business with China as well.

Interest in the NBA outweighs interest in Disney Theme Parks by a large margin. Don’t let this echo chamber fool you.

Whether it’s the correct call financially that’s for Disney to decide.

I said nothing about business deals with China - nothing at all - my implication had not at all to do with business deals and/or finances with China or any other country

You said the NBA would be the absolute worst PR for Disney, that’s not even remotely the case

Ok, I will play along - and then let's agree to disagree - you misquoted me ( actually, left out part of the post - I said out of the four major sports - NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL) IN MY OPINION, it would be bad PR, and others have posted the same -

And it's just my opinion - everyone is entitled to their own
Let's agree to disagree
Thank you

I’m just intrigued at this point at how you view the NBA and it’s players. The NFL has had far more player transgressions in the last few years than the NBA. Ezekiel Elliot, Johnny Manziel, Kareem Hunt, Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Aldon Smith, Greg Hardy.... I can go on. Adam Silver is widely viewed as the best commissioner in sports with his progressive actions propelling the league as one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

I’m not saying it’s going to delay the opening further but I think without a doubt it impacts the operations. Whatever areas the NBA is using will likely be closed to the public.
That’s what I was referring to as far as rumors. There seems to be quite a number of posters who seem to think it’s gonna have an impact on the parks opening.

It’s not like the NBA is Tennis or something. No offense to tennis but the NBA is an international draw. More so than NFL and MLB even. Obviously the NFL is more popular here but the NBA is pretty popular across the globe.

If you are talking number of fans, you're correct, but to say that tennis doesn't have an international draw is so far from being accurate. Most of the players on the tour aren't from the US. There's not that many tournaments in the US and 3 of the 4 majors are outside the US, so it's very international. I'll give you that they have far less fans than the NBA but don't argue it's because the NBA is more international than tennis when it's literally played all over the world.

I understand that but it's not how you wrote it so the comparison doesn't work.

You can look at lots of international sports, F1, Premier League Soccer it's called that's on nbc Sat and/or Sun mornings, NBA etc. They all have their draw around the world and on are TV here. Tennis, aside from the majors, typically has most of it on their own channel. Premier League Soccer isn't even played here but gets network tv, so it obviously has more viewers than tennis and NBA combined will have more than both since we know not all games are nationally televised and some will draw better than others.

There's also no comparison between tennis, even back in it's heyday when it was on network tv more often or for longer amounts of time, even then I'm sure the nba beat it. It's a niche sport and you'd be better comparing it to curling, which is also international.

I knew I would get backlash from someone no matter what sport I picked. Tennis is not nearly what the NBA is in terms of numbers. It may have been a bad comparison but it’s also wrong to say that the NBA isn’t popular because it very much is.

I'm a Knick fan, so I basically wait for baseball season to start every year ! (Just trying to lighten the mood)

Huge NFL fan (Steelers) - aware of all players you mentioned, and, honeslty, I really like Silver a lot ! ( much more than Stern)

Reading through here I don't think anyone did or I missed it. I'm not saying it's not, but MLB or NHL would have been a better comparison. Both are international sports and sure the MLB has gone to Japan but really neither have huge followings outside NA, Japan & Caribbean (MLB) and kinda Europe (NHL). Both leagues get good to decent numbers in their markets but even with national games they aren't getting the same numbers as the NBA or NFL by far. I'm sure Nascar has more viewers outside the playoffs.

I couldn't even tell you the last time I watched any part of an NBA game. I don't care about the league any more, our team got stolen and yes all of us up here in the corner of the country are still bitter about it all. But it's good to have live sports back no matter what it is. Though I'm hoping baseball can get it worked out, in the mean time I've got racing to watch.

The NBA has over 400 Million fans around the world, though admittedly most are in the US. Tennis has 1Billion fans throughout the world, most decidedly not in the US.

Now I don't blame you for being unexcited about the NBA lol.
