Just heard that the Magic is going to Europe to repatriate crew.

I have also heard this from another source. We will know soon enough as everyone is monitoring the ship locations.

This is something that I have been saying all along, that the Magic will sail transatlantic without passengers and pick up the the North European sailings from the end of July / start of August.

I’ve heard this from a couple of different places - but of course nothing is confirmed until we hear it from DCL themselves.

Personally, I doubt that we’ll see any cruising this side of September given the current climate. Many European countries are just starting to ease their lockdown rules - with rumours that holidays may be allowed within a few months, but I think cruise ships are likely to be the last tourism sector to open up. Plus, they’ll need to re-crew & I don’t know if they’ll have enough time to do that for July (given current restrictions on international travel).

We’re booked on the July 25th cruise & many members of our cruise group have started to have flights cancelled.

My bet is the WBTA being the first cruise with passengers.

Was looking this morning, was surprised they were all still in port. Would be interesting to see if they do one drop off in Europe or multiple (not sure where the staff is from? I think most from the UK, but others?).

I highly doubt they'll pick up the cruises from July 25th, The Netherlands (a port stop on the Norwegian cruise) has announced yesterday they won't allow gyms to open until September 1st, and that is if everything goes well! I really doubt the borders will be open before gyms are allowed to open and I think cruise ports are last in line

I think the previous comment about the flights is a big one. Delta has announced major summer cuts to Europe, so many people can't get there even if they wanted to. Delta totally cut my Reykjavik route this summer. :(

awww, sorry to hear about that, but in a way the cutting of flights and the subsequent cruise cancellations could be a way for DCL to cut the passenger capacity in order to comply with social distancing rules.

I'm on the 7/25 Dover cruise as well. I doubt we'll go even if the cruise doesn't get cancelled. My Delta flight to London was cancelled about a week ago. They rebooked me on another flight, but I called and said the new flight won't work. A full refund hit my bank account 3 days later. Kudos to Delta on their customer service!

My info is that they're going to drop crew off in Europe, and from what I understand they'll put in at Dover, but the ship will go into cold shut down, which means they'll use shore power for lights equipment etc but the engines, will be shut down and this will remain that way for the indefinite future (no dates were mentioned) since most of Europe is closed to travel the ship will remain with a skeleton crew until things open up. At that time DCL will make the decision what to do, it takes 2 weeks or so to ramp up the ship for operations again (supplies, return crew etc), Apparently this is just pre-postioning the Magic in anticipation for any resumption of operations. However, if there isn't any practical dates to return the ship to service she will eventually sail down to Cadiz for her dry dock service period. Then they'll see about making the WBTA after that. Anyway that's the info I got from different sources over the past couple of days.

Yes....except my Reykjavik trip wasn't associated with a cruise. :)

I don't think the Magic will be taking any passengers until it returns to Florida. I'm supposed to go on a HOTHS cruise in October between NYC and Bermuda. Well, Bermuda has flattened their curve with a grand total of 7 deaths due to Covid 19, and fewer new cases than recoveries each day. They would be fools to allow a ship carrying passengers from NYC to dock, and I'm sure they won't. I'm sure Canadian port authorities will feel the same way.

Magic is on it's way to Castaway Cay. Not sure if there are European CM's there or if they're going to drop off supplies

thanks I just checked too. I'm going to keep a close watch over the next few days. Apparently crew on social media are saying they are gong to Europe but right now the GPS location for The Magic is the route to Castaway Cay

Well you pass Castaway Cay if you go from Florida to Europe, so I'd make sense they'd drop supplies (seems like they have been sending a ship there every so often)

No, The Magic does not pass Castaway Cay when going to Europe. The transatlantic routes do not go to The Bahamas first. Their go straight out to sea from either Port Canaveral or Miami. They need to fill up on fuel and supplies before a 10 plus day sailing, so going down to The Bahamas first before going out to sea to cross the Atlantic does not make sense.
This was the route for the 2017 Transatlantic from Port Canaveral to Dover England.

I know they didn't stop, I was on that cruise ;) but the route sailed isn't a straight line like drawn here, we got pretty close to Castaway Cay. I say, that if supplies are needed on castaway Cay, the Magic might be the one for who it is the smallest d-tour, so it's better to have the Magic do it, then to have the Dream go there and then back to Port Canaveral again (which they still might do for a later supply drop).

My cousin is coastguard at Dover.
I'll have to see if they know anything, any insiders.

thanks, that would be amazing, originally The Magic was supposed to do a 12 night transatlantic starting May 11 from Miami and ending May 23 in Barcelona.

If the rumours are true, I would expect The Magic to arrive in Dover around May 23

Yup, I expect the next port will be Ponta Delgado, so it'll be a few days until we know for sure
